French onion soup
Jay S.

The best part of the representation of this restaurant was our server Kelly. She was pleasant knowledgeable and paid attention to detail, she's friendly. Nice ambience with the white tablecloth in the building looks very nice. Now for the food: I'm afraid it fell short all around. We split the meal and the roasted lamb shank unfortunately was not hot, only warm. The bowl that it was presented in was extremely hot and Kelly warned us. I needed to send that shank back to be warmed up, which she pleasantly accommodating my request and apologized. When it came out, it still was not very hot, but she tried. Our roasted beef salad was average, the vinaigrette was tangy, but not overpowering, the cheese may have been fresco or cotijo. The pine nuts could've been roasted, just a few seconds longer for flavor. Big disappointment was the French onion soup. Only because I've had French onion soup in Paris, where it was amazing. The soup was also not hot! French onion soup needs to be hot... The cheese was not melted or toasted. The croutons were below average the caramelization of the onions was good, but the broth was again only warm. If you've ever had French onion soup, you puncture the cheesy sometimes bubbling top and it is like a volcano. Not here. There you have it.

Rueben

Came up to Taos overnight for our anniversary. We got in early and no early check in. So while waiting for our 3pm check in we decided to go exploring and have some lunch. Walked by Martyr's Steakhouse and saw they had outdoor dining under patio umbrellas. The day is beautiful with s nice breeze so we decided to try it! Ordered an angus burger and their Rueben sandwich with onion rings and both were excellent especially the Rueben! Service was good although I had to ask for a refill for my ice tea and more condiments for my burger. But all in all a nice relaxing experience! Now off for some retail therapy!

The food was very nice and the service was great and they have good drinks 5 Star . indeed the ambience was perfect

The sad baked potatoe. So tiny

The food was awful and the handed dirty sugar packets for an expensive dinner this was awful. $50 steaks were nervy and tough and the expensive baked potato was a joke. Waitress was nice but overall not a $300 dinner for 4. I recommend you lower your prices to match your quality of meats, sides and service. What's mistake!!

My Sales Team and I went to Martyrs for dinner while in Taos. We were all very impressed with the food and service. My double pork chop was cooked to perfection. My team also complimented the salmon and Rib Eye steak dishes. Sides were a bit small but very tasty- especially the creamed spinach! For dessert, get the Lemon cake. It was better than the Volcano cake w/ice cream and the Creme Brulee. The service was very good! I would highly recommend!!!

Great dining experience with a wonderful patio and indoor dining on white table cloth! We enjoyed the food so much we had some delicious dessert. The staff is very attentive. And in true Taos fashion you do not need to dress up to enjoy.

We've been hit or miss with Martyrs lately but decided to try again around 1pm. Most folks were seated outside and then a huge tour bus came in; perhaps this is why our wait staff went from barely helpful to non-existent, although I did see here hanging out with the hostess quite a bit. That was the service side. They're just understaffed and undertrained. The food was spot on, however. Light, flavorful carbonara sauce, a nice portion of pasta and uncured bacon. Very good. And their iced tea isn't dusty tasting. It's got a very clean flavor.

There was a long wait of about 40 minutes before being seated, and then another substantial wait for our food. But the food was worth the wait honestly! I had the chicken enchiladas (Christmas), and my husband had a chicken stuffed sopapilla with a side of carne adovada. The meals come with sopapillas and honey, which was a nice little treat. We really enjoyed our food. It was all exactly what we wanted to eat while in New Mexico. The service was slow but friendly; you could definitely tell that the workers all work together as a team but also that they were very busy and seemed stretched kinda thin. Did it take a really long time of waiting? Yeah. Was the table sticky from honey when we sat down? Yes. Were the salt & pepper shakers filthy? Mhmm. Was there a blackened air vent in the waiting area and a super dusty plastic tree in the bathroom? Sure thing. But all those things aside, I had to give 4 stars bc this was really good food! We would return if ever back in town but only if we have several hours to spare for the wait.

Finally we figured it had been put on the wrong side of the Main Street so we went the other way and ended up hungry and ready for a drink and dinner. The only negative is that I couldn't get a margarita other than the wine margaritas they have. Since there is a sweet and sour mix in them I went for a white wine instead and it was perfect for the day. We ordered our drinks and chips and guacamole to get started while we looked at the menu. Our server was super and we sat on the patio in the shade which was lovely. There was plenty of shade for the hot day. To stave off our hunger while we looked at the menu we ordered the chips and salsa with guacamole. The salsa was fabulous as was the rest but I had to comment on the salsa because so often these days it's just too tomato-y or bland. This was flavorful and had a bit of spice. For dinner, we ordered the steak tampiquena and I would get it again. Savory, perfectly cooked and hearty. Check this place out if you are visiting!

I need to praise the calamari dish for genuine and brilliant creativity containing some mild chili paste, greens and strawberries- this just worked. The pasta bolognese were perhaps a dash too creative deviating somewhat from a traditional meat sauce (here with black olives and without, or at least no noticeable, tomato). The petit filet was ok but slightly undercooked. The service was on point, pleasant and efficient. The atmosphere is darker and cozy, but due to the small rooms and proximity of tables maybe a bit cramped..... you can't help but hearing other table's conversations as irritating as they may be.

What a quaint bed & breakfast. The grounds and setting are beautiful…read more We arrived in Taos when it was dark. The B&B is directly off the busy main road of Taos. We did not see the Hacienda Del Sol sign the first time and drove past it. We had to turn around. The second time we tried to get to the B&B we turned before the sign and realized we missed it again. Finally on the 3rd try we got to the B&B. The driveway is shared by a restaurant and another B&B. The innkeepers do not live on-site so they left late arrival directions for us. Each unit has its own designated parking space. We were assigned to the El Pueblo unit. It was a room that had a kiva fireplace (which we couldn't use because of the room above us), club chair, small table that contained cups, Keurig maker, ice bucket, coffee, tea and condiments. The bed was comfy with luxury linens, a dresser and two bathrobes. The bathroom was small. Instead of travel size bath products they had full size bottles of bath products. The best part was there are french doors leading to the shared garden/lawn area where you can see the mountains. They have a good sized hot tub for your use. You have to sign up for a private one hour soak. The sign up sheet is located in the kitchen by the coffee makers. Breakfast is served in the dining area right off of the kitchen. There was a lot to choose from. There was a meat & cheese plate, rosemary bread, prosciutto egg cups, chile egg cups, fruit, bacon, baked goods, fresh squeezed OJ, coffee, assorted teas, other things of which I can't remember. There weren't too many people in the dining room so we ate in there. The second morning it was too crowded in the dining room so we ate outside even though it was chilly. We got to talk to the innkeepers Blair and Mike. We found out they had bought the inn only five months ago. They are lovely people. I wish them success with the inn. We didn't have any lodging plans for the next night so we stayed another night at Hacienda Del Sol. The El Pueblo was booked so we moved to the Rio Grande, which was only two doors away. It was more money per night than the El Pueblo but it was worth it. The Rio Grande was much bigger than El Pueblo. Even the bathroom was much bigger. The one drawback of the B&B was how dark the grounds were at night. Some of the stones in the pathway were broken or missing. All in all we enjoyed this B&B.

Situated just a mile north of the Taos "hub" Hacienda del Sol is an oasis of tranquility, luxury, and hospitality. The rooms are immaculate (complete with a wood burning fireplace begging to be lit and enjoyed). The grounds are beautifully manicured with local garden decorations and plenty of Adirondack chairs for basking in the sun under Taos Mountain's shadow. You can't paint a better view. Mark and Gerd serve the most delicious of breakfasts each morning. I enjoyed the fruit cup starter with only the freshest fruits, followed by options including French toast, pancakes, biscuits and green chili gravy, cheese omelette, skillet potatoes and eggs, eggs any style, and, of course, bacon. I looked forward to waking up and joining other guests each morning to see what new delicious options we would be offered. I enjoyed the privacy of the individual hot tub times. You can sign up for 30 minute slots throughout the day, 7 days a week, to enjoy an intimate hot tub time with your party. There are some dog-friendly rooms, so bring Fido! They do have some ground rules with the dogs (cannot be left alone in rooms and no sleeping on the bed). Please be respectful guests so that they may continue their hospitality towards canine guests as well. Be sure to bring a crate if you do intend to leave for any amount of time. There are many restaurants just steps from Hacienda del Sol and the staff will be happy to make recommendations or reservations at your request. Within 30 minutes you can be at Taos Ski Valley, Rio Grande Gorge Trails (25 min drive), the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (12 min drive), downtown (5 min drive), a grocery and liquor store (6 min walk), wine country (40 min drive), and Santa Fe (1hr30 drive). Simply put, we had the most magical experience and cannot wait to make Taos and Hacienda Del Sol an annual vacation spot.

The patio kind of gave us the feeling of being in someone's backyard for a dinner, which was cozy and comfortable. The cornbread was okay, the house salad delicious, the tortilla soup really delicious. My husband had the grilled sea bass and really enjoyed it. I had housemade potato gnocchi, which was super delicious too. I like that the menu is seasonal and full of locally sourced items; they even have a board which lists the sources they partner with. They were out of a lot of desserts; we ended up trying the piñon tart, which was good. Important to know that this is a cash only spot! Service was great, but then there was quite a muddle with getting our correct check so we could pay and leave. Our check was swapped with another table. We had nowhere else to be and I was enjoying some peppermint tea and my husband some wine anyways, so it was fine that we had to wait a while before they finally brought the correct ticket to us, but in another scenario that could've been really annoying as we ended up there for over two hours total, a lot of it waiting for our check. They did comp us our dessert and my tea, which was the right thing to do and we appreciated that. Overall it was a pleasant dinner, with seasonal dishes and a nice, cozy ambiance. Unsure if we would return, but we don't totally regret going.
