Whether you like sweet, savory, meat or plant-based or in between they have a great selection and all very tasty! Not cheap but at $17-$19 for most entrees, won't break the bank. Stayed for a few days at this beautiful hotel that has the most amazingggg restaurant inside There were so many things we tried and can't complain about anything at all. From the food, the waitstaff, the bar staff, the drinks. Most importantly the Chef.... Cristina Martinez. She is absolutely brilliant. Everything was such an amazing experience. The appetizers were so so so good. The balance of all the flavors in everything was spot on. The artichokes were heaven and the hummus was so so good. The duck was insanely tender over a beautiful bed of butternut squash-brie purée and a apricot orchard chutney. The next day we tried the crème brûlée French toast & Blue Corn Atole. Again, amazing. In the evening we tried the wings and fish & chips. The wings were so so good. She also makes her own hot sauce and it is effing delicious. Then the fish was so tender. The s'mores dessert, oh em geeeee. Spot on! So much beautiful fluffy marshmallow. The Sunday brunch, she serves a lobster Benedict. Wow. I have to say it was the most tender, flavorful Lobster I have ever had. The Hollandaise was amazing on top of the beautiful bread, with avocado and the side salad was delicious nice touch. Beyond thankful for this experience. Will definitely be back soon! She is such an amazing chef! The flavor combinations, the plating, just all around one of the best places I have ever eaten. Food (pork tamales) was passable, no better, no worse than most Mexican restaurants. Service was adequate, though the meal was disturbed by the raucous fun fest going on in the kitchen. Poached egg perfectly done and excellent Hollandaise BUT food was basically warm, not hot. I'd experienced this before and told my server when I placed my order. She said she'd bring it as soon as it was plated. Another person delivered my order. I was hungry and ready to eat so didn't send it back. Not sure why food can't be delivered piping hot. So my girlfriend went here for dinner with her family. She has a nut allergy and makes sure to tell that to the server. The server audibly says that she will leave a note for the chef to let him know about the allergy. When my girlfriend gets her salad she takes a bite and there happens to be pistachios in the sauce of the salad. She immediately starts having an allergic reaction while the waitress is oblivious. Needless to say my girlfriend was rushed to the ER by her mom and they didn't bother paying for the food. The staff needs to be properly trained on how to abide by dietary restrictions. My girlfriend had to spend the next several hours in the ER and even when she went back to the hotel she felt very nauseous for the rest of the evening. read more

Very over-rated. Thought Sunday brunch would be special but the food was just average and over-priced. Opted for the most expensive item - the lobster benedict. The lobster was not fresh (frozen or possibly even canned) and mostly small flavorless pieces. The Hollandaise was very good at least and the brioche, egg and avocado were good. It came with a side salad that was overdressed and had several pieces of lettuce turning brown. Other dish we had was huevos rancheros and it was acceptable. The tortilla on the side was disappointingly dry and tasted like average store bought. Coffee served in a french press was very good. The service was friendly but not very attentive. Sat on the patio and felt ignored. Even had to take the bill inside after waiting a long time for server to come. The patio is a nice tranquil setting on a fall morning but inside is noisy and poorly laid out. The music from a pianist/vocalist was distracting to say the least. The tables are poorly arranged with not much room to negotiate getting around without danger of falling in the sunken planters. Definitely not the place for anyone with mobility issues. read more

Had a fabulous dinner and great service two nights ago. Tonight, not so much. We enjoyed the kale Cesar salad so much so that we ordered it again tonight, and aside from the dressing, it was a completely different salad; spring mix versus kale. The spring mix wilted under the weight of the hearty dressing and there was minimal if any "kale" in the salad at all. The server asked how it was, and I let her know that it was disappointing based on our dining experience from just two days ago. Truly, if you don't want honest feedback, don't ask. And don't pretend to "talk to the chef" or inspect the salad mix personally. Kale is kale. Spring mix is spring mix. Spinach is spinach. And they are all drastically different. And manners are manners. To sit there and argue with a patron reflects poorly on yourself and your establishment. Clearly, neither you, the chef, nor management care enough to be honest and own the situation. If the kitchen is out of kale, just apologize and offer an alternative rather than serve something that is inferior and nothing like what is listed on the menu and then proceeded to dismiss honest feedback. You don't have to love every patron, but you should take enough pride in yourself and your establishment to professionally and maturely handle criticism. Escalating vs. deescalating. Figure it out. It's not that difficult. And it will serve you well in the future. read more

This review is for the fine dining restaurant De La Tierra at El Monte Sagrado Resort. The atmosphere at this restaurant is superb. It perfectly complements the surrounding of the El Monte Sagrado Resort. The food from Chef Cristina Martinez is executed at a very high level. Her menu is seasonal and we got in on the last day of the summer selection. We had the Whiskey-Cured Salmon appetizer which was extremely well designed. The salmon was paired with a selection of pickled vegetables and horseradish cream. For the main course, we had the Shrimp Noodle Bowl which was a stir-fry preparation with a slight curry flavor. We paired our dinner with an Alta Luna Pinot Grigio. The food is excellent. Now for the bad news. The service is a disappointment. We were the only two people in this restaurant and we waited at every phase of service. There is no one managing the dining room and therefore, no cadence to the service. I believe the main reason is that the kitchen and the wait staff are serving two restaurants (the casual dining adjacent to De La Tierra) simultaneously. Fortunately, we were not in a hurry. But at this price level, you still expect more attention. I think the service could be easily fixed with a dedicated staff in the fine dining side. If you have plenty of time, I recommend this restaurant. With a few changes, it would be five stars. On service, I would give three. So I will compromise and give it four stars. read more

We came here for Dinner . The place was very tastily decorated . Comfortable chairs . The drinks were outstanding . Service is a bit slow but consistent . All of our Appetizers were delicious . We tried the Hunters Board , Soup and Salads . Everything was served on time and plated with pizazz . Dinner oh my the Ahi Tuna was awesome and the corn cake it was served with was simply delicious ! I need this recipe . I had the Quinoa patty and chili infused oil . There were Oyster mushrooms on top . The dishes were well presented and the flavored immensely. Overall this place deserves better reviews than it has received . Very poor experience. Waitstaff was undertrained and was trying to make us order dessert at the start of dinner. Messed up drink order and what should have been a two hour dinner turned into 50 minutes. Guess they don't want to make money here They wanted to serve way too fast to enjoy dinner. My wife and I decided to stay in Taos on a whim during our return trip from the left coast. De La Tierra was recommended to us and we decided to give it a try - without looking at the Yelp reviews. Note: we almost always look at Yelp prior to making a dinner decision when in a new area. This time we did not, and we regretted the decision. We arrived early for our 6pm reservation so we decided to have a cocktail in the Anaconda Bar (right next to the restaurant). The decor was nice. The bar was not crowded - maybe a dozen people. After waiting 12 minutes with no service, and one bar tender stopping at a table right next to us - look at us and just return to the bar, we decided to relocate to the bar, where - thankfully - the service was better. We were thinking of just staying at the bar, but the two people were struggling to keep up with the small number already there, so decided to head on into the restaurant for dinner. There was one other couple eating dinner as we arrived. Once there, it took several minutes beyond what I would expect for our waiter to greet us. Fortunately, we still had the remainder of the drinks from the bar. We asked for water and the menus. The menus showed up a few minutes later, but we had to ask for water again. When it finally arrived, we asked for an appetizer that was available in the bar (and on the lunch menu), but not on the dinner menu. The waiter was happy to oblige us and did get us the Green Chile Bacon Mac & Cheese. This is the saving grace of our entire bar/dining experience that evening - it was fantastic! The hatch chiles had just the right amount of kick, you can never go wrong with bacon, all tied in with the decadent and succulent mac & cheese. Even splitting it, be aware that it is a filling dish, but well worth it. We were informed that one of the items, the lamb chops, was not available. That was what I wanted, so disappointed there. Although, it probably turned out to be better given how filling the decadent and spicy appetizer was. We each decided to order a salad, the Taos Farmers Market salad and a Caesar salad. The Taos Salad was OK, but we expected much more for a salad touted as fresh local ingredients. The Caesar salad was over dressed, lettuce dripping with average-at-best caesar dressing. The croutons were soggy on the outside and tasted stale. I would not order either of these again. The server was pleasant, but gave me the slight impression that his pleasantness was insincere. To be fair, that was just an impression I got. The service, overall, was slow. Our waiter appeared to be the only one there and was supporting food orders from the bar as well. We were the only ones eating in the dining room by the time we started on our appetizer and for the entire meal. I would have expected the service to be stellar at this location, even with a crowd. It was not, even with us being the only people in the restaurant. We were happy to get on to our next activities - enjoying other amenities at the hotel (which were quite nice). Other than the decadently delicious Green Chile Bacon Mac & Cheese (which adds a star to the rating), do not waste your time here. The food does not meet up to the hype. read more

We had a lovely dinner here while staying at the resort. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir to split for two - good wine list. My husband had the soup of the day which was good. The salmon plate that I had was AMAZING - cannot recommend it enough. Lots of different flavors and textures. It was awesome. For dinner we had the pasta (wine and garlic linguine) and I had the lamb. My lamb was very flavorful and a large portion. My husbands food was great - he added chicken and it was divine. The ambience was good - lighting was a little low and you can't pull the chairs out without a loud noise, but quiet. Extremely disappointed! This was rated as the best in Taos. NOT! The total for an app, two meals and one wine was $120. I would not be upset with the amount if the food reflected the cost. Not only was the meal not well plated (both were piled high with fries) but the food was well below what one would expect for the beauty of the restaurant and the cost. We had high hopes for this restaurant but the food didn't live up to par. I think our biggest complaint was the pan seared rainbow trout - which wasn't pan seared at all. It stated it was in a curry broth but instead was laid on this peanut butter thick curry paste. No broth to be found. It was so over the top spicy that not a single one of the three of us could eat it. My teenage son managed to eat a couple bites and has now been sick from the spice level for the past 20 minutes. When serving staff asked us how it was (with 95% left on the plate) and we responded it was too spicy, nothing was said or done. When I called to speak to head of house, Rick, his response was "thanks for letting us know". Our stay at this hotel was phenomenal, but this restaurant experience left us disappointed and one of us sick. The chef called in the midst of me writing this review and had equally poor customer service. It was green curry paste on our plate, not broth, there's a big difference. Worst customer service I've had at any restaurant. I stated I didn't want a refund - but the argumentative nature of this chef was out of hand. I have a full voicemail of her defending this dish before she even spoke to me. That left no room to be heard or understood which is number one in customer service. read more

My dining companions and I have pretty high standards when it comes to an "award wining restaurant" and this place missed the mark completely. Although the Monte Sagrado resort itself is quite gorgeous and dramatically decorated- the overall atmosphere of De La Tierra was a bit odd. From the get go the service was slow and although not entirely unfriendly, our waitress looked like she was just dying to run out to a high school party and serving us was the only thing holding her back. We started our meal with an extremely bland, luke warm soup and following that my vegetarian entree was pretty much a joke. Imagine about 1/2 cup of quinoa dumped in the middle of the plate topped with canned peas and carrots that have been drained- then try paying $19 for it and perhaps you can feel my disdain. The only thing that was even worth writing about was the dessert "El Mundo"- which was delicious and we promptly demolished in nearly 2 minutes flat (probably due to the fact that I was still starving from the lack of substance to my meal). read more

Dinner tonight before a show in the hotel. Worst. Service. Ever. I had the duck but they forgot the rice. My wife had the chicken they forgot the asparagus. The restaurant was pretty empty but it took over an hour to serve us. Food was good however It took 90 minutes to get out of there. The manager comped our meal. Beautiful place but hey, it's Taos. Instead of medium rare, the venison arrived medium-well, and dry. The waiter quickly brought back something still overcooked, but less dry, so I gave up and ate it. The comped desert (lemon tart) was good, with very fresh blueberries, but it didn't overcome the disappointing venison. I can't speak to the restaurant ambience because I only ordered room service, but it looked nice from the outside! I found the food incredibly overpriced for both quality and quantity, and there is definitely such thing as too much blue corn. For the most part, I don't feel like the menu fits what small town New Mexico should be about, and I wouldn't make a special trip for this restaurant! Came here for dinner on a weekday with co-workers while on business in New Mexico. Located inside a Resort and Spa Hotel, the interior is elegant and the service is very friendly. Overall, they give decent portions (except for the Elk tenderloin), are pricey, but can make for a nice dinner in Taos. Orders: 1) Elk tenderloin with roasted potatoes and brussel sprouts ($34): small portion of elk (~5 to 6 oz) that was cooked medium but was still alittle tough 2) Chicken with string beans and fries ($21): two thighs and drumsticks, decent amount 3) Beef Short ribs with roasted tomatoes and veggies ($25): large portion of short ribs, slightly too salty 4) Appetizer: North Atlantic Mussels ($12): good portion of mussels, around 25 mussels covered in a chilly sauce Nice place with a moderate selection of menu items. If you're going out on a nice date while in Taos, this can be a very nice place to go and explore around the restaurant itself. If you're just visiting Taos but don't want to shell out such a large tab, I suggest looking elsewhere. read more

We were staying at this hotel and breakfast was free. At free, it was overpriced! Wife orders eggs with toast. I ordered eggs and an english muffin. Wifes eggs arrived and she asked for tabasco sauce. After 10 minutes still no tabasco but after 12 minutes waitress brought cold salsa??? Obviously eggs were stone cold but waitress never asked about that. My muffins arrived barely toasted (not even warm). I asked that they be put through the toaster again. They arrived with the wife's tabasco!!! This restaurant was routinely empty throughout our stay and after breakfast there was no doubt why! Too many other breakfast options in Taos to waste time and money here. read more

I came here for breakfast twice while staying at El Monte Sagrado. There are two dining rooms - one is more traditional/western, and the other (farther from the hostess stand) has more of a greenhouse feel. The service was attentive, and the food was excellent. I especially liked the breakfast burrito - but beware it is HUGE! Breakfast was included with our room, so I didn't pay much attention to the prices. I definitely preferred a made-to-order breakfast at a nice restaurant to the crappy buffet-ish breakfasts that a lot of hotels offer. read more

This restaurant is in the El Montano Sagrado resort. This is an award winning restaurant so I was expecting the best . I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Its decor is elegant mountain resort, with the high ceilings and giant wooden chandelier. There is also a bar on the side of the restaurant. They make really excellent Mojitos. We started our meal with the Surf and Turf appetizer. This was mussels on polenta with chicharron. The creaminess of the polenta was a great balance to the other strong flavors of the dish. We gobbled this one up. My main course was Duck, Two Ways. This was absolutely delicious! I took one bite and shut up... The duck was moist and flavorful. I know it came with something else, but all I can remember is that duck . I savored each bite of that entree. For desert, we had Chocolate Five Ways since they didn't have Creme Brulee. This included truffles, brownies, and a milkshake. It was okay, nothing memorable. As for the service, its attentive and very professional. We had a really nice waitress that evening and she helped me choose my entree. So if you are ever in the Taos area, try this restaurant if you want to splurge.
