We stayed July 4th weekend in Cabin #1 (queen bed up in a loft, deep soaking tub) and Cabin #2 (queen bed downstairs, 4 twins in the loft and a shower). We loved every bit of the place from Opie the Great Pyrennees dog, to the solar power that warmed our bath, to the gorgeous wood buidlings, to the delish mountain water, to the gorgeous remote location in Coldstream Canyon. We will definitely go back. Now I'm itching to learn to snowshoe to go there in the winter! 4 wheel drive & clearance A MUST in the summer to get there. The only improvements I would recommend are for the place to use biodegradable soaps (dish, body & laundry) and other household items. It was disheartening to be off the grid in nature's bounty and discover antibacterial dish soap, and Zest bar soap in use.

Olympic Valley Inn hosts fun events on many nights of the week, and they text you to let you know. The inn is right around the corner from Palisades Tahoe ski resort so the location is very convenient. The absolute BEST part of my stay and the best thing about the inn is the staff. When I arrived, I was going through something difficult, and the staff was incredibly kind to me. The employees are extremely kind, friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable, bright, professional, and hard-working. Special thanks to Faviola, Gillian, Loren, and Brit who are AMAZING. However a director at Getaways, working on behalf of Olympic Village Inn, just denied my request for any reasonable credit/cancelation/partial credit of my five night stay. This is due to my dad being admitted to the ER with 2-4 days to live (failed kidneys, no dialysis). I offered documentation. I booked through Booking.com and was told the booking was nonrefundable. Understood, and in the past I've only ever heard of nonrefundable bookings being changed or refunded in extreme cases. I've never heard of a bereavement request being outright denied with no attempt at human decency. Please don't give people and businesses like this your hard-earned money.

WARNING: First thing when you check in, check if your fireplace is leaking gas!…read more I would love to give this beautiful hotel a 5 star review but a traumatic experience with my friends last summer is preventing me from doing so. Specifically with the night shift front desk person. Our fireplace was leaking gas and we were told several times that it wasn't a big deal because "it was designed to smell bad at times" and to just "let the room air out". We tried that but the gas smell got worse to the point where we were nauseous, gagging, and dizzy. We got to the hotel at 10pm and were up until 2am asking to be moved to another room, having our calls ignored, having other guests helped before us, being told there were no rooms available, and there was nothing they could do. We were finally moved to a section of the hotel that was being remodeled and smelled very heavily of paint. By the time I was refunded for this completely unacceptable service we had moved rooms 3 times. I know this story sounds so dramatic but I can't make this up. We just had to spread the word so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Please do NOT listen to anyone that tells you a gas leak is no big deal as prolonged exposure can be lethal. Demand a new room or go to a different hotel if you have to. We could have died had we not stood up for ourselves!

Alcoholic drinks are available for purchase. Cost: $199/person, all inclusive (except alcohol) Environment: two-story house with around 50 lounge chairs and a couple conversation areas including some indoor areas with TVs. Staff: Jones, TJ, and Chef Angel were the best! Always attentive and able to help with anything. Chef made us an amazing vegetarian lunch consisting of a beyond burger and roasted veggies. Almost all the snacks were vegetarian/vegan. Verdict: Absolute must for all Ritz Carlton guests! Service was great, food was amazing, and the experience was unrivaled. Truckee, California…read more There is no real purpose to go inside the building. You have a good vantage view of this small town from the Stone Tower & the patio that is accessible 24/7. The weather was 36 degrees in June so do not think for a second all of California is beaches & palm trees. Truckee is the gateway for Reno & Lake Tahoe with Sacramento & Central/Nor Cal in general. The town has more significance than it may appear. The Donner Pass is also adjacent to this town. The tower is still a cool spot to check out, take pictures and if your lucky get in a snowfight in the early summer months =) Travel safely my friends. @cigarcpa
