Martin's Camping Ground is a great choice for local workers and people who don't need the resort amenities. Brenda, who operates the campground, and the groundskeepers are all incredible to work with. We had heavy storms that brought down trees and knocked out the power overnight in the area. So many neighbors came out to help eachother and clear branches. Martin's even brought everyone together for a picnic to say thanks! Happy to keep staying here! read more

Never again! First off, it is NOT big rig friendly! Since I-80 is under a constant evolution, this park is 95% housing construction workers. There are only a half-dozen spots allocated to travelers. This is exactly what the office worker (water boy) told me as we discussed why someone else was in my reserved spot when we arrived. Most sites that are available were mucky and very unlevel. If you are a retiree passing through the Chicago area or a family with young kids, keep right on going, There is NOTHING there for kids to play on or do when you get there. We paid $50 for an over-nighter on our way back from Texas that only had 50a service. No water, no sewer....but the price reflects the availability of all three. No compromise. I've traveled from Maine to South Dakota and Michigan to Texas. For the price and accommodations, this place is very over-priced and not well maintained. read more

I had recently stayed at Martin's campgrounds it is a man camp no more not family oriented whatsoever the new owners very unprofessional in the way they conduct and handle business you're a business owner not an authority figure anyway I had paid for my stay for 30 days I had left for a couple days came back and they wanted me to repay for my stay again the authority they had to move me from the spot I originally paid from to a different spot just to prove their authority and I'm very dissatisfied with the state completely all the way around bathrooms were Fair showers were dirty once in awhile a very unfriendly staff and let me say it it's not a place you want to take your kids for sure it's a man camp if you're working I get it my customer satisfaction -5 read more

Brenda was very professional and helpful. We needed a place to stay that night and we're going to arrive after hours. She accommodated our request and had all we needed, clearly marked for us. We had a big rig and trailer and was able to get a pull through. The showers were clean. We were greatly relieved and very happy. read more

Great campground. I had an extended stay for 8 months due to work. Great Facilities bathhouse was always warm and clean. They have great rates on Propane and have everything you need to pump your tank with out moving your rig if you are at a water and electric site. If you have a foundation of mold and crap and you mop that mold and crap everyday, you are still left with mold and crap. The men's bathroom is atrocious, not to mention there is nothing to dry your hands. But the women's restroom had paper towel dispensers... what would Gillette have to say about this? The water is unfiltered and smells so disgusting it was hard to shower. No fire pits so not actually camping at all, and no WiFi so no glamping either. Litterally you can throw a rock and hit a semi truck on the highway. I called ahead to make a reservation and the lady said that it's first come first serve no reservations. When I showed up a guy in a silver Lincoln pickup truck came up to me and said, "Hey can I help you, did you call in advance?". Now how does that make any sense when you can't make reservations. Bottom line this place sucks. Waste of my money I suggest the Walmart up the street. The young man upfront was polite otherwise peace son. read more

Stayed here one night on way to Mackinaw. Directly off I80 and you can hear the freeway. Very basic campground with full hook ups. Bathroom/shower facility was clean, grass was mowed. Good coverage for Verizon. There were some sites with trash littered about, you can tell there are some long-term stays here who probably don't care about their site. Staff was very friendly. I'd probably stay again but only briefly. read more

We stayed at Martin's for two nights. Not only was the owner/ manager very nice but so was the lady I spoke to on the phone. We were bound to arrive late and they walked me through how to complete after hours check in, and let us know which site was ours ahead of time. The campground is right beside the highway, obviously loud but it gets quieter as the night goes on and who cares once you're sleeping? They have washrooms and showers, clean and could use a slight update but the waters warm and it does the trick! Everyone is friendly, it's a pet friendly, nice gravel parking for your camper too! We fit our truck, 38 ft RV and jeep in our spot. Great place! Will stop by again! read more

First the good: The staff is friendly and the price is pretty good for being close to CHicago. Now the not-so-good: SItes are not very level, the bathrooms were old and not very clean, and it is very close to I80 with lots of traffic noise. read more

The worst two months of my life and we've been nearly full-time campers for about 10 years. Both men there are so unbelievably rude, loud and they discuss everyone's business with everyone. We had a dispute over how much we owed from the beginning and off course his word was right, even though we had all the receipts. I am new to the RV/camper world and was so pleased with my stay at Martin's Camping Ground. The owner is so helpful and has the cutest little dog! I am having a great stay! We broke down on the interstate and found this little campground and they welcomed us and let the trailer service come in and help fix our brand new trailer while we waited. I cracked a bottle of wine, made some burgers and just relaxed for a night. read more

We stayed here for 2 months after moving from Oregon, before we bought a house. The owner is a slum landlord! The bathrooms are very old, and disgusting! Big globs of hair, lots of bugs and cobwebs, and stinky sulfur water. No amenities at all! You can't even buy a bag of ice. The owner is rude, and has a "like it or leave it" attitude. And it's one of the more expensive places around. $200 more a month than a place just 15 miles away. Stay away! read more

Very expensive! 190 a week! 600 a month! Most campgrounds are a lot cheaper! Some of these have sewer and some spots don't. You either dump the sewer yourself or they come around for 10 dollars to dump it for you. No wifi! Beside the interstate which I could care less. Most of these spots are not level and they also do not keep up with cutting the grass. But it's a beautiful area. They charge extra for having children!!! It's ridiculous. Then 2 or more adults they charge extra. We had an electric problem outside which made our electric go off and on which is a huge fire hazard and the so called landlord is supposedly an electrician but he didn't even fix it right because it still kept going on and off. So we switched back to what we were doing before since he's such a slum lord and won't do shit without a cocky ass attitude. read more

We stayed here one night, and almost did not because of low reviews. However, we feel it was not altogether fairly rated. The other reviews mentioned three points, first a surly staff. Our clerk was friendly and helpful, a retired fireman, and I was pleased. Second, the highway noise, we were far enough back from the highway that it did not seem that loud to us, we have certainly heard worse. And finally, the charge being high, it was $28 for electric and water, and that seemed fair to us. All in all, this is not a premium campground, but what we were needing was a place to spend the night and leave the trailer for a run into Chicago, and it fit the bill nicely. read more

The owner Dirk the jerk is very rude we had stayed there for 7 months he does not know how to take care of his property no gravel all mud the bathrooms barely had any toilet paper or paper towels in them he only fills and cleans them like once a month so very dirty. He came banging on our camper door late yelling at us about alcohol bottles on the road by our truck when we dont drink. And when I told them that we don't drink and that's not ours he said Oh I knew you were going to say that . And he kept yelling at me then telling my husband to come outside like he wanted to fight him. Never had no problems for 7 months till that night packed up next day and left we don't need to be treated that way so if you're thinking about staying here I wouldn't there's a place $200 a month cheaper 15 minutes down the road. read more
