A few months ago, I had them clean a 5x7 Persian style wool rug. They kept telling me they needed to do a cat treatment for extra $$. I don't have cats! What a shame that my friend had to deal with Sherry and not Sam or another more reasonable person at this business. Yes, she said, she could pick up my (heavy) rugs that got wet in my basement. Then over the course of hours she changed her mind, and yelled "You'll blame me for bleeding dye!" No, we actually wouldn't as these rugs are older and we understand the situation. We had neither workmen nor a truck to take the rugs to a shop she deals with, plus the truck practically passes by my home to get to that shop. Wet rugs have a very short window during which they need to be managed or there will be more problems. Sherry's rude and unprofessional conduct was upsetting, deeply disappointing, and delayed the process when there was no time to waste. I'm glad this business has so many satisfied customers. We found someplace better, less expensive, and were treated cordially and professionally every step of the way. Prompt pick-up and rugs returned when we were ready for them. (Looking forward to when Sam has more authority and presence in this business-- I think he might have handled this emergency situation with more class and grace.) read more

I grew up in the Oriental rug business, my grandfather started one of the largest import/export rug businesses in the US. As a result, I have a lot of rugs I inherited in our house. They had taken a lot of use/abuse, and hadn't been cleaned in many years. I remember Grandpa telling me that rugs should be used for years, and then cleaned, which will soften the wool and can bring our the colors. As a family, we often had gorgeous rugs we "broke in" for several years and then cleaned before selling. I took three rugs to Martinous for cleaning, and the work done was wonderful. There were stains that I never thought would come out - completely gone. One long runner was not straight, it sort of curved to one side. They were able to get it straightened out. Not only that, but the color in that runner is amazing now. It was a sort of orangey look, now is vibrant and rich, with the cream colors bright and clean. A second runner was in front of our back door, and that end was filthy. It is amazing how all those stains are gone. I was very impressed with the knowledgeable people there, and the care they took with my rugs. Great value and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend them! read more

I have used Martinous Rug for 30 years. They clean rugs on a square foot basis so cost is clear at the beginning, They came with three men in their company truck and slid the carpets out from under the heavy furniture to roll them. One rug was an embarrassment, a very inexpensive wool rug that had both pet damage and moths. I asked them to cut out the damage and make a runner out of the good section that was left This required binding of the raw edges, which they did a good job on. Sam, the owners son, directed the two workers making sure that they were careful with my antique furniture. When they returned my rugs and reinstalled them, Sam was very careful to be sure to rotate them to keep sun damage to a minimum. I was very pleased and will use Martinous again. read more

We have never had a need to clean our 1989 8'x6' Tabriz rug. A cocktail table was centered on the rug, so the rug didn't get too dirty over the years. I took my Persian-style rug in to get it cleaned here because I liked their web site (they described their cleaning process step by step). I did a quick price comparison and for my 5x6' rug one place would do it for $85 (including pickup and delivery) and Martinous was $125 (I had to drop-off and pick-up myself). I went with Martinous anyway and overall would say everything was okay. I don't think the rug fringe was as "sparkling white" as their web site claimed they would get it -- in fact, the fringe looks tinged a little bit red now from the dye of the main body of the rug. Also, service was a bit lackluster -- while I was in no rush, after 10 days of not hearing from them I had to follow up myself to find out whether the rug was ready. I think next time I'll just use the $85 place. read more

THey did a fine job for me for many years, until they washed my largest rug on Feb 18, 2011. When this rug was returned to me, there was a KINK in the middle of one short side of the rug. The fellow who returned it just said "oh, it will work its way out." Well - it never has flattened. I was told, by a another rug specialist two weeks ago, that the kink was most likely caused by the rug being folded before being completely dry. The rug was just washed again and the kink is still there - the fibers have been damaged and now, the kink will never come out. Thanks a lot, Martinous! read more

We have four beautiful oriental rugs which needed cleaning. We contacted Martinous (who we had used previously) and they agreed to not only take the rugs but also assist in removing them from the rooms where they had been placed from the previous cleaning. This was no small task. Today, only two weeks later, the rugs were returned in like new condition and re-installed by Jacob and Virgil, who did a masterful job. They reversed and precisely re-located each of the four rugs in a variety of challenging room arrangements. We have never seen such dedication to detail and such accuracy.
