Birria...everything! Like many in Fort Worth, I was drawn to Birrieria y Taqueria Cortez with the…read moreheadlines that they received Michelin recognition. A local place that serves amazing Birria, count me in! We made our jaunt for a Friday lunch and they were busy. There's plenty of space here - they have both outdoor and indoor seating but given that it was still hot AF, most everyone was crammed inside. The menu is quite expansive. As I said, its birria galore. Usually when hit with this much goodness I try to default with some of the tried and true recommendations, so I opted for the Quesataco Combo: 3 birria and cheese tacos, with all the fixings. Amazing. decadent. delicious. Plenty of words to describe the great birria they dish out here. Happy to say Birrieria y Taqueria Cortez lives up to the hype and if you're like me and you love some birria, definitely give it a shot. We will be back to try some birria pizza or even the birria ramen. Can't go wrong here.

When I was on my birria kick I would drive from Arlington all the way here because no other place came close. The meat is full of flavor and spice and the conzume they bring out with it is just as good. Its full of spice and flavor and I straight up drink that by itself, i dip my tortillas with it. I usually put salt and lemon on the tortillas and then roll them up and dip em in the conzume. In the past, I had the ramen, the platillo, the tacos, and I think the quesabirria, they are all delicious but my favorite is the quesabirria and the tacos, followed by the ramen. The menu is small but just stick with the tacos or buy the meat by the pound, and you are good to go. The rice and beans are average but still good; the salsas they have on the table are amazingly delicious. The light green one is my favorite because is not too spicy but spicy enough to give me that kick am looking for in my food. I drown my food in that salsa sometimes and then dip in conzume. In the past, I also had their margaritas, and they are delicious! The mango with chamoy and Tajín on the rim is my favorite! They have a patio in the back with another bar and more Tv's. The staff is nice, but the last 2 times i been there it took over 10 minutes to just get a waiter to recognize i had not been help and place my drink order with them. I notice the staff tends to pay more attention to bigger parties instead of groups of just 1 or 2 customers. I like the atmosphere of this place; the music, the shows they have on the tv and the murals honestly make it feel cozy like I am visiting a family member. I don't come here when they have soccer games on or late at night on the weekends because the customers can get rowdy sometimes, and that's not my vibe. All the time I've been, they have a security officer so people don't get too out of hand. The parking lot is kind of small so if you come on a busy day/time, you might need to park across the street. I never had to wait long to get a table, and the staff is pretty quick about cleaning and turning tables over to keep the wait down.

He loved Don Artemio's. Being a 5-star restaurant, service is always impeccable from the time you enter until the time you depart. Our server today was Ulises. He politely introduced himself and asked if there were any questions about the restaurant, or the cuisine. After answering several questions, he proceeded to take our drink orders. I ordered one of their speciality tequila cocktails. Each one is an experience in it's self. My sister ordered several Nopalitos Fritos, the restaurant's signature fried cactus appetizer, plus the restaurant's incredible guacamole. The appetizer was accompanied by their in-house made blue corn tortillas. Oh yummy, my favorite part of the dining experience, the cactus. It is SO good. The restaurant is such a beautiful creation. If you're ever dining there, ask the servers to give you a history of the furnishing, stones, etc. It is so interesting to learn about the care that went into the restaurant. In fact, much of the ingredients used in the preparation of their incredible entrees is sourced from a certain area of Mexico. Even their incredible coffees use imported coffee beans from Mexico. When dining at Don Artemio there is never a rush to get you in and out. This is a restaurant to immerse yourself in the surrounds and the food. Don Artmio's is a destination restaurant to be savored while you are there. Ulises check-in with my sister if she felt it was time to order. There is such a delectable selection of entrees to choose from, it'll be a hard choice For many of us. My wife, who wasn't too hungry, decided just to enjoy more of the Nopalitos Fritos with the blue corn tortillas, this is her favorite item on the menu. I opted for the prime 8 ounce filet. He is served on ancho -pasilla herb black bean pureé, chipotle sauce, ancho-pasilla, grilled calabacita and baby carrots. I'm and "rare" steak individual and usually restaurants disappoint me because my steaks are almost always overcooked. I'm taking a chance on Don Artmio's, but I have a funny feeling, my steak is going to come out of the kitchen perfectly prepared. Others in our party ordered their entrees as well. Ulises handled our group with military precision. His attention was on each guest as he took their order like they were the only customer in the restaurnat. After a reasonable wait, a barrage of servers, surrounded our table, with Ulises' assistance, each entree was placed in front of each of our party with a certain flair. Everything looked so delicious. The presentation of each platter was a feast for the eyes. As I learned in the food business, presentation is everything! Several members of the management team stopped by our table many times to check on us to see if we had everything we needed. The service staff demonstrates a true "team" effort. Everyone helps everyone. Ulises, for those who had ordered cuts of meat, he asked all of us to cut into our steaks to check the doneness and see if it was prepared to our satisfaction. Here's the test, was I going to get a perfectly prepared "rare" steak? I cut into my prime 8-ounce filet and it was grilled to a perfect "rare." There was a beautiful crust on the outside. Oh my goodness, I couldn't wait until the first bite. Perfection!! Seasoned perfectly. One thing you'll notice, there are no salt and pepper shakers on the tables. There is no need for them. My tummy was so happy. As our meal wound down, conversation wound up. We shared so many wonderful memories of Ron, my brother-in-law. He had been a part of my life for 62 years. He passing left a void in all of our lives. To wind our meal experience up, my sister ordered several orders of the restaurant's signature dessert, Tres Leches del Desierto Deconstructed tres leches with ammonite-shaped ice cream and berries, basically a deconstructed Tres Leches. words can't express how delicious and decadent it is. It is so rich, it begs for a cup of Mexican coffee, which is what I ordered. We all enjoyed the wrap of of our gathering at Don Artmio's to honor and remember a family member that had been such a presence in our lives for over six decades. Thank you Ulises, the staff of the restaurant and especially all those who work behind the scenes to ensure each and every visit to Don Artmio's is a memorable experience. We'll be back again soon.

To start the meal, they brought out an amuse-bouche that I can't remember the name of. It was a silky smooth creamy squash soup. I could have eaten a bowl of that and been satisfied! Soooo good! DRINKS: Zacatecas - Banhez Mezcal Joven, Guava Puree, Lime Juice, Chipotle Tamarind Syrup Not something I would typically order but it was smokey & complex. Carajillo43 - Licor 43, fresh espresso Perfect drink to end a great meal! APPETIZERS: Cazuela de Chorizo Housemade chorizo, bruleé panela cheese, oregano pickled onion, served with handmade heirloom blue corn tortillas. To make tacos. Best chorizo I have ever tasted! Made me change my mind about not liking chorizo. Guacamole So fresh and good! Served with heirloom house made blue corn tortillas. Nancy recommended we make tacos with chorizo & guac on them. They were good! Different from your typical tex mex served with chips. (This is not a Tex Mex place). They serve a red and green salsa. Both good. Red was mild in spice level and green was hot. MAIN: Codorniz en Mole Poblano Texas quail stuffed with a creamy pecan almond rice, house made mole poblano, oven roasted potatoes, queso fresco, toasted pumpkin seeds. DESSERT: (got two to split between 6 people. Just wanted a taste). Tres Leches del Desierto - my fav of the two! Deconstructed tres leches with ammonite-shaped ice cream and berries. Encuentro de Chocolate - very rich Chocolate sphere cake filled with chocolate mousse, finished with a chocolate glaze, served with beet-ancho chile foam We are all stuffed, happy, & look forward to going back! Love all the plants on their patio. Looks like a relaxing place to enjoy a perfect meal when nice out!

The beans had a lot going on and included ingredients that probably should be mentioned when ordering. She thought the fries were decent, but said the birria tacos were just okay and that she's had much better elsewhere in the area. The service is good and straightforward. You walk up to order, grab a seat, and wait for your buzzer to go off. One thing to note: if you order drinks, keep an eye out for them because they're not brought to your table. As for my meal, I tried the mushroom, shrimp, and pastor tacos. The pastor was underwhelming, and the shrimp was overcooked. The mushroom taco was easily the standout and will definitely be my go-to if I come back. The weather will soon be nice for enjoying the patio, but there's also plenty of indoor seating available.
