If you are an Atlanta visitor (for the world cup or anything else) heed my warnings: Marta is one of the worst transit systems I've ever seen. They are chronically late, there are not enough workers to operate the busses or trains, and their customer service is atrocious. if you lose something, do not expect the marta police or Marta customer service to help you. They may acknowledge you, or they may blow off your inquiry. If you call Marta don't be surprised if they never call you back, if you send an email, do not be surprised if the email is ignored. If the system overcharges you, don't be surprised if you never get your money back. I have lived in Atlanta my entire life, and candidly, Marta's human resources just gets worse every year. They may come out with a new train, and new gates, and new systems, but don't expect it to be perfect. Also, if something goes wrong don't expect the supervisors to assist you. Atlanta also has a homeless problem. So, if you visit, don't be surprised if you see various homeless people taking up space, begging for money, and trashing the bus or trains with food or empty containers. Marta has policies against this, but no one cares to enforce it. Finally, if a route is changed due to Atlanta streets being blocked off, inclement weather (snow, hurricanes, etc), or anything else, Do NOT expect Marta to communicate that to you (the paying customer/consumers). A few years ago when it was snowing, a bus dropped people off at a random spot and made people fend for themselves after they had paid (as opposed to having clear communication with its customers hours beforehand). This is a terrible business. If you can get another way around town, do not choose to rely on Marta. read more

I use marta to work easier convient most of the time I use to take 30 bus train station Lindbergh now since their new service april 18 everything change bus start running at 530 not every fifteen minutes as originally stated the people that lived and go to work at druid hill baricliff road have to take Uber, lyft to Lindbergh because the bus doesn't run early enough for people who have to be at work 6am no other way to be at work at 6am even walking to new stop it doesn't come until 525 if it on time so the people that live on that druid hill have find a ride or Uber every single morning that is not right they didn't even consider the people living on that strech of road nobody can afford to Uber everyday to work even though am no happy about the walk in am the bus needs to run early very concerned about the time they come in the morning doesn't help people who use to take the 30 to get work at 6am marta was more concerned about outside people coming in June not the people that lived and work in city went to meetings and express concern didn't change nothing read more

Reminds me of NYC subway but it's outside. Same train setup and not all the machines work when you need to purchase a ticket. But outside of that it's pretty easy to get from the airport to your destination and I can take it to the airport and without paying an arm and leg for Uber. read more

I'm a GSU student bus number #49 (1819) seen this big guy trying to get on the bus . He was barely making (he able to get there) the driver drove pass him very fast knowing he was calling them. Your drivers shouldn't treat people as such that was wrong and he was just in disbelief. read more

First and foremost this is for my Latino Hispanic community riding Marta especially in chamblee train station Marta is out to get us I assume because the community is mostly Spanish speakers they will deduct extra money from your card the layout of the station it self splitting the busses so you can double tap just to go to the other side is a set up discrimination or try to get their money back from all the other people that use the train without a breeze card called customer service and they will review the case and maybe refund my money in 7-10; business days at this point its not the money is the principal that you Marta and the system is abusing my community I have ride the bus before in different stations where majority is black and this has not occurred so please tell me why I feel that we are being targeted. Starting from the fair box at the East Point Station that took my money but didn't put it on my card, to the old lady (station supervisor) sitting down having a conversation with her coworkers over my request for assistance whichI needed to get through the fair gate before the #180 bus #1836 8:14pm departure time pulled off, and to the innocent bus drivers who I had to explain what took place. Marta, should be completely ashamed and embarrassed. They are so quick to go up in price but not so quick to make sure riders have a clean, safe and pleasant ride. The police are practically invisible, along with the fact that the homeless situation is out of control. They basically live on Marta, sitting around, laying around eating, farting, smelling and begging. They make it very unpleasant for others trying to commute. This is where Marta bus route 4 should have picked me up by 8:19 a.m. to arrive at Stonecrest Mall AMC Theatre by 9:53 a.m., according to the Marta Trip Planner feature on the Marta app. It is now 8:42 a.m. so I'm going to be very late for an important business meeting and cannot even get a human being to answer the phone of the Marta Customer Service line. This not the first time a Marta bus has not shown up according to schedule. And I'm not complaining about a bus running late, I'm complaining about the bus not arriving at all. The bus driver told me that i could load $20 on my breeze card, so i put in $20 into the machine, and they did not load up a single dollar. They then told me that i have to go to the Five Points train station to SEE what they can do about it. The Marta has definitely improved from the last time that I rode it from the airport to the Medical Center. While it is never without its "entertainment" on board, the Marta looked very clean and secure with the police presence around it and in it on some cars. In years past, the Marta was known as "The Farta" based on how filthy & smelly some train cars were. I was impressed with the fact that there were staff members that walked in the vicinity of the Breeze machines in the airport to assist newcomers, and even more impressed by seeing more than one member of security patrolling the grounds around cars. I had to ask a member of the security team if I was going on the correct car that went toward Sandy Springs and was satisfied with his assistance on getting me where you needed to go. Like any subway in a major city, there will always be the those folks that mess up the experience. I didn't see that today, yet was pleased in knowing that the city has been attentive enough to make the Marta experience a pleasant one for both new patrons and experienced ones. You can get me from the airport to downtown Atlanta for a couple bucks, in twenty minutes? Great! The MARTA is easy to use, clean, comfortable, fast, and cheap. It essentially consists of the north/south route and the est/west route, each of which branches out a bit towards the end. I really wish we had something this easy and convenient in Denver! Not much cleaner than New York's, but more consistent with the digital arrival postings and definitely more interesting to me as a visitor. Very convenient due to full airport access on 2 lines (hear that, NYC?) and the announcements are both audible and helpful (they tell you all the points of interest for each stop). The racial dynamics are completely different in Atlanta, so it's kind of refreshing to get a different vibe from the crowd. A quirky guy chatted me up and it wasn't odd. Had the chance to visit Atlanta for a week last month and had to take advantage of their rail system. Looking at the official train map/route, it gives you a multitude of options in terms of getting around the city of Atlanta and beyond. I arrived at the ATL airport and found it very pleasant that I could purchase a pass before exiting the airport and even board the train to my final destination. MARTA has various prices for one way, round trip, and multi day pass. I paid around 23 dollars for a unlimited seven day pass and it was totally worth it! Yes, you may hear that it is outdated and possibly dangerous, but what city does not have a cringe worthy rail system experience. From my experience, I did not run into any issues, even after 10 at night and very early in the morning. If you can figure out the routes and lines, you can pretty much get anywhere in the city in 30 minutes or less. In conclusion, I would gladly ride the MARTA the next time I am in Atlanta as it is quite simple, affordable, and much better than walking and or taking a taxi/uber. read more

Traveling with my wife & 2 kids & had a long layover so we took the MARTA from the airport to the Georgia Aquarium. Only one hobo asleep on the train. She was a nice hobo but we couldn't understand what she was saying. Clean & felt safe. Interactive maps would be nice however each stop is announced & maps available. Extremely dirty trains, you can feel the dirt when you board. It's very unsettling. People constantly playing music with no headphones. Trains full of homeless who should be helped and directed to a facility. The smell in these cars is atrocious. Clean these cars! read more

Mass transit in STL sucks. Our train is newer, and cleaner. But it goes nowhere. MARTA in Atlanta always seems to be in route to where I need to go. So much that I rarely rent a car when I travel there. Plus, it's pretty fast. Tips... by the breeze card and refill it online. You can also plan your trips online. This will save you from getting in the way when you reach the station. Also, the train gets busy closer to rush hour and closer to the 5 points stop. Make room for others. read more

Public transportation creeps me out :( But, for the price, you can't not try it, especially when there is a 30 min wait for a cab. Please note, don't get in the middle of the machines to buy your card if you don't know how to use it, regulars will push you out of the way and give you dirty looks. Purchase a card, check out the map and get on and get off. That simple... although it's a tiny overwhelming, it's sooooo much better than the subway. I am spoiled because I live in Orlando, a driving city, so please don't think I am stuck up, I just never really had to rely on public trans - although... this wasn't that bad. I live close (half a mile or so) enough to walk to a Marta train station, so I take advantage of it fairly regularly. It really beats driving in rush hour traffic and putting more wear and tear on your car. Sometimes there's even free entertainment on the train -- you never know who will be riding in your car! If my employer's office was close to a station, I would absolutely use it for commuting to work. Downside: sometimes sketchy people mill about outside the station, which can be intimidating for a woman walking by herself. I carry a tazer just in case. The schedule is pretty reliable, and you can get just about anywhere in 30-40 minutes max. read more

For $3.50 which includes the price of the card, you can go from downtown or the convention center to the airport. Compare that to the $35 it would cost for a taxi. On top of that, guess what---- no traffic. Easy to navigate with the MARTA app for your iphone or Droid. read more

I can't complain and won't complain. I take Marta almost every time I need to get to the airport quickly. Its about 25 minute ride from Lindbergh to the airport and you don't ever have to worry about the traffic. In inclement weather you will arrive dry right inside the airport terminal. I think more intowners should use MARTA as there mode of transport to and from the airport. It is super convenient. read more

On March 18, I had these issues with Marta. Omg, Marta! What is the hold up with my new breeze card. I completed the assessment to be recertified for Marta Mobility services. I been waiting for two months for services which include 21 days for my new card to be mailed to me. On top of that, I was told by an employee that I can use the old breeze card for $1.00 on the Marta bus until I receive my new card. Well, I'm glad I had my son breeze card and some extra money because I had to pay $2.50 to get to my doctor appointment. When I left my appointment, I was on Canadian Way and Montreal Road waiting on the bus. I was waiting on the 125 bus around 11:00 am to get home. The 125 bus came and went right pass me as if I wasn't waiting and trying to get on the bus. I had to contract Marta. The customer service employee had told me that I will have to contact the county and tell them that they need to make sideways and sideway ramps for people with disabilities (that uses wheelchairs). Marta said that the bus drivers can't pick up people that isn't directly at the bus stop. I had to wait in cold for the next Marta bus to come. Thank God, I decided to report this issue because the other bus drivers would have went right pass me as well. I asked the Marta employee, so what do I have to do, wait in the street and get hit by a car or truck just to catch the Marta bus to get where I'm trying to go, now? As a paying disable passenger, you telling me that Marta buses can just pass you by if you are in a wheelchair and can't get directly at the bus stop. This could of been worst! I could of been stranded on Montreal Road! The Marta employee had to let the next bus drivers know that I was out there waiting on the bus and to be looking out for me. Who got time for issues like this with Marta? Marta have always been my source of transportation! This isn't the first time I have had some issues like this one with Marta buses and I'm sure it will not be the last that I'll face issues like this one. Now, who should I sue for my safety Marta Services and/or Every County in Georgia that has "NO Sideways, No Sideway Ramps, & Damaged Sideways"????!?!? My life is more important than this mess! I never would of went through that if I had my new Half fare breeze and was able to continue using Marta Mobility Services! The recertified assessment appointment process takes too long. I used to work in Manhattan so I feel like I am familiar with effective mass transit systems, and now that I live and work near Philly, I also feel like I am familiar with ineffective mass transit. I go to Atlanta regularly for business and the office in Buckhead is not very close to the airport. (Side Note Buckhead is NOT Atlanta, I don't care what you try and tell me.) MARTA just so happens to run almost directly to my office and hotel, it is reliable, clean, and convenient. Much easier then renting a car. read more

A friend and I (both senior ladies) took Marta to a concert downtown recently. Yes it took longer than driving and we had to change trains at five points, not a problem. We were coming into and out of the stations with other concert goers. I felt more secure than I would have walking alone from a remote parking lot. Planning the trip could have been easier, I did not find the website easy to use. Schedules are just a vague "every 20 minutes" but I couldn't figure out when the time that the train would be at my station. When I tried to access some features I got a "page not available" message. Signage needs to be improved. Hundreds of us got on the right trains in the five points station only because a nice Marta policeman walked up and down the track shouting instructions. We thank him for his help, but could you buy the man a video screen sign? read more

For the most part, MARTA runs efficiently. However, since the transition of new leadership, I've constantly experienced trains almost never being on schedule (matching what is listed online). As a daily rider, I depend heavily on the posted schedule to arrive to and work on time. There seems to always be problems during the most critical times of the day (rush hour). I literally waited over an hour in one place one afternoon with a simple mechanical issue explanation, but no further details so riders could make other arrangements. It is very disappointing and inconvenient to say the least. I know MARTA is now under new leadership so here's to hoping these things will change soon. read more

The bus driver, Charles Steward, who was driving the #85 northbound to North Springs Marta station was at the eastbound traffic light at Holcomb Bridge Rd going toward GA #400. I was on the northside of Holcomb Bridge Rd and Mr. Steward saw me running to get to the bus. He waited for me. That type of consideration for a bus passenger does not happen often. This review is for the MARTA in general. I flew in from Cali final destination Decatur. It's so convenient to catch the MARTA from the airport. Cheap too, it sure beats a $40 cab ride to downtown Decatur. The whole ride took less than 30 mins. We transferred easily at Five Points. I noticed alot of folks working at the airport taking advantage of the MARTA. I wish we had a rail system in place as efficient as this in LA and OC (Cali). U guys r all lucky. We were able to travel back and forth from Decatur to downtown and midtown Atlanta. All for $13. read more

I love the changes MARTA has made. I rode on it 12 years ago and the train looked like public transportation in the rough parts of Mexico. I was here for a convention and I loved riding MARTA. The trains were very clean, little TVs in the wall and maps everywhere. You still have the rough element riding the train, but you just need to "be aware" on any public transportation system. What is smart with MARTA is that all the main lines run through the popular parts, unlike Chicago. read more

Marta is simple and easy to get around compared to New York trains but their customer service sucks . Don't even waste your time calling the 404 number because they will get annoyed when you tell them you are out of town and don't know what bus to take to get to a certain mall. I rode the MARTA from the airport to downtown. Inexpensive. Relatively clean. You buy a reloadable pass to get you on. Relatively clean. Stops are announced in advance. Stations can be a bit dicey, poorly lit. Not bad for a modern transit system. read more
