On two different occasions, I have had the experience of Marsha's Lunchbox sandwiches. First time was the patty melt. The toast was burnt and the sandwich was flavorless. The second time I had the tritip sandwich with a side of macaroni salad. There were three pieces of tritip on the $16 flavorless sandwich the macaroni salad needed salt. I'm not impressed at all wonder how it gets such good ratings when it really isn't that good! read more

Walked up to the register to order a sanwhich and the little old lady just looked at me, walked away and proceeded to tell me I will be with you. A little advice. I work sales amd service as well. When a customer is ready to order and pay, you take the order then do what else needs to be done later. I ordered a breakfast sammie and a turkey sammie with a cup of turkey rice soup; breakfast now and lunch for later. The turkey rice soup tastes like Thanksgiving in a cup. Oh it's so good! The fresh roasted turkey with herbs and soft rice, it's incredible. The best! Very hearty. The roasted turkey sammie I ordered on a sweet roll which is my standard I like at other sammie shops and it's great here. The usual accessories mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato and just a little red onion make for this lovely lunch sandwich. The turkey is insanely fresh, juicy and so roasted flavorful. No dry birdie at all. The breakfast sammie with eggs, cheese and choice of bacon, ham or sausage and choice of bread is just what you need to start the day. It's toasty and handmade with love. Came in here to get some lunch. Passing by you wouldn't really notice Marsha's unless you are looking closely. It's one of those hole in the wall gems that you need to go to. For my 1st time, I got the pastrami sandwich and it was good. I liked the bread they used. It was so cool that the design had this swirl on it. The bread was soft and delicious, it paired well with the pastrami meat. This is a good place to go to get great sandwiches I heard from one of my friends. I am excited to try the other sandwiches. Service was good as well. The lady behind the register was nice friendly and she let us know how long our sandwiches would take. Looking forward to trying it again. read more

Wow this place is fantastic. This place is a deli; not just a caterer. It doesn't show up when you do a yelp search for deli in san carlos so it is impossible to find via Yelp Search. I just had the best freshly roasted turkey sandwich in my life for breakfast. When you walk in there is the smell of fresh roasting turkey. This place is incredibly hard to find. Very small sign. Doesn't show up on a Yelp search for lunch places or sandwich or soup or salad. All the menu items I think they excel at. They roast a turkey every morning. My sandwich was made with fresh warm french bread and roasted turkey. Mayonaise perfectly complemented the turkey; didn't taste dry. When fresh and warm the meat is juicy. Once it gets cold the moisture has evaporated. Favorite breakfast place on the planet. Morning sun great on a cold frosty winter day. They can customize any combo of eggs/potato/toast etc.. you like. They also make fresh salads daily. Home cooking Where can you find this? Not a corporate entity like Whole foods or a commercial sandwich chain. Breakfasts not commercialized like Denny's/McDonalds where they focus on profit and higher margin items like pancakes/hashbrowns. When eggs were cheap this was a great deal. Eggs now more expensive b/c of CA law... so they import their eggs from elsewhere.... Low rent so the prices for food are very good. Turkey is not from a salty processed sliced preformed loaf. The problem with the standard deli meat is they add salt to keep it from going rancid but they can also use much lower grade meat and they add turkey flavoring to make it taste like turkey. You have no idea what you are eating. Nasty stuff. Turkey rice soup made from the freshly roasted turkey. Can never get turkey soup bc nobody cooks anymore. Fresh tritip. read more

Marsha's Lunchbox cafe is clean and bright with super friendly staff. They are open and offer nice outside seating. We had a lunch for take out. They have a variety of options on the menu such as salads, grills, soups and sandwiches. We tried chef salad and chicken salad sandwich and they were very delicious and fresh with generous portions. I highly recommend this hidden gem of a place and we will definitely come back again. Don't forget cookies for dessert. read more

Finally! A good old fashioned deli for a solid breakfast sandwich. There is plenty of room and it is really nicely and modernly decorated to boot! I had a really soft and yummy everything bagel with REAL egg, cheese and avocado. Good strong and fresh coffee. I am a native New Yorker and this place does a good bagel sandwich with egg! Everything looks homemade in here and I can't wait to come back to try lunch. I would definitely recommend this for a really good breakfast sandwich or lunch. This is my favorite sandwich spot in the area. They roast their own turkey, so their turkey sandwiches are real - the best! There was one time when I found a dead fly in a sandwich, so now I'm a little afraid I'll find another one - even still, I go their regularly for their roast turkey sandwiches. I want to like their beef sandwiches.. A couple of constructive criticisms I would like to offer them - the Brooklyn is too salty (I've gotten it a couple times), and the Tri-Tip is good, but the meat pieces have too much fat on them. Otherwise, I think the Tri-Tip would be another great sandwich. Even with all my criticism, I highly recommend Marsha's for their roast turkey sanwich! read more

I have driven by this place quite a few times and have always intended on stopping by but never had the chance. Finally one day my boss didnt want to take me to lunch and I was able to make my own descision and tried this place out. Plus the sign "Fresh Roasted Turkey Sandwich" is kind of hard to resist. I was early around 11:15am and was the only person ordering. The women behind the counter seemed very busy but there was one girl who ran up to help me at the counter. The kitchen/sandwich making area seemed cluttered and disorganized. But the customer areas were very clean and organized. For my sandwich I got "The West Side." Turkey, Bacon & Jack on sliced French Bread with Louis Dressing. It also had Tomato and Lettuce. The sandwich was very, very good. But heres the bad part. I had an allergic reaction to something in it. I think it was the "Louis Dressing" but Im not sure. My bottom lip swelled up and the sides of my tounge swelled up. My bottom lip was bright red like I smeared bad red lipstick on it. I cant say what exactly made me have this reaction. My sandwich was really good though. But my body just didnt appreciate it I guess. Maybe if I come back Ill order without the Dressing and see. Or I might just not chance it again. My reaction is more my thing and not really a reflection on their sandwich making abilities or the resturaunt., because it was dang good. read more

What a great little find for lunch! Within walking distance from my job, I moseyed on over through the local neighborhood to get here. After recently visiting New York for the first time, I simply had to try their Brooklyn sandwich. While no Carnegie, it was everything I could have asked for: roast beef, bacon and cheddar with horseradish dressing. Surprisingly inexpensive, friendly staff, and nice holiday decor, too! My wife and I decided to go on a picnic and thought we would try this place for sandwiches. Man are we glad we did. We ordered the roast turkey on marble rye. DELICIOUS. The turkey was moist and there was a lot of it on the two sandwiches we ordered. My wife commented that not only were the sandwiches delicious but they were assembled well and the other ingredients did not fall out. ( this is something that a lot of sandwich places do not do well) We believe the woman that took our order and made our sandwiches is the owner; very nice lady and made a point of thanking us for our business. 3.5 stars for the food and an extra 0.5 stars for being a friendly neighborhood small business. Passed by this place lots of times in this commercial and industrial part of San Carlos on Industrial Rd parallel to 101. Thought I'd give it a try today, especially since they advertise "fresh roasted turkey" sandwiches in big letters on its window and I wondered how it compared to local sandwich shop favorite Gracie's Delectables. I had a roasted turkey sandwich ($6.75) on dutch crunch - the roasted turkey was fresh and moist and came with all the fixings on a chewy fresh dutch crunch roll with slightly crunchy top. Overall the turkey was very good but it wasn't as flavorful and tasty as Gracie's. But I liked the sandwich overall. The place itself was bright and comfortable with 5-6 tables where you can relax, read the newspaper and some magazines which they supply, and listen to country music playing in the background. There were 2 ladies working behind the counter and they knew a lot of their regulars by name. There weren't many ppl sitting there eating but about 5-6 grab a sandwich and go types while I was there. They are open from 7:30-3pm weekdays (I think) and cater to the local business breakfast and lunch crowd (and catering to local businesses). They also have muffins, cookies, pasta salads, etc. Bottom line: I liked Marsha's fresh roasted turkey sandwich and would definitely come back again. Now their turkey is not as flavorful as Gracie's but the overall experience and brighter and cleaner atmosphere gives Gracie's a run for her money. This is our first time my husband and I are trying this place. The tuna melt sandwich (being Friday during Lent) and patty melt (hubs doesn't follow the Lent thing) were pretty good. My only gripe was this potato salad. First off the size of this $3 side was ridiculously small. That's a bit expensive for this measly portion, but It was a blessing in the end since it was a bit sweet for my taste and couldn't take more than two bites. read more

We use a sound stage near here to shoot corporate videos. Martha and her staff are awesome. They are super nice and organized. Last week I ordered 13 sandwiches and salads and each on came with the person's name on it. Big help for the person dealing with it. I called an hour before and said what time we needed them. All the meals looked great. Everyone was pleased with what they got. My BLT with avocado was excellent. They cut brownies and lemon bars in half and it was just right. I orderd there special of the day pulled pork, ordered my food and paid at 12:45 pm and spent 20 min waiting for my order, at 1:05 pm I ask about the status and they said sorry it's right here , I take my pulled pork and Gatorade and leave at 1:15pm I open my sandwich and bite into a piece of cold meat, cold like they pulled it out of the refrigerator cold, no time to go back to have them fix or replace it so $$$$ in the garbage, I'm not from the area and won't be back here anytime soon read more

I was delighted to find this neighborhood gem while waiting for my car to be serviced at Primo Honda (right across the street - be careful crossing!). I had a delicious and substantial breakfast plate, with scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage and toast all perfectly prepared. The staff were very courteous and welcoming. Very nice, open, modern space. The first time I've tasted Marsha's Lunchbox foods was when I first started working as a Administrative Assistant down the street (6-7 blocks) from this place. We had them did our breakfast and lunch catering everyday. Sometimes on the weekend. 6 months later, I finally have my favorite: their homemade croutons, macaroni salad, italian roasted chicken and cranberry nut salad =] After I had tasted and seen most of what the food on the catering menu looked like, the company gradually gave me the task of ordering food for breakfast and lunch. I'm thankful for this task because I felt having to work with the menu, people and calling the deli numerous of times made me a little closer and connected with Marsha's staff. In the morning, we would rotate from eggs, pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausages, chicken apple sausages (special), croissants, biscuits, fruit salad, bagels, and pastries. For lunch, our staff have loved the rotating favorites: bbq chicken, lasagna, tri-tip, kabobs, ribs, sandwiches, grilled salmon (my favorite), mash potatoes and gravy, rice pilaf (my favorite), red roasted potatoes (my favorite), chinese chicken salad, spinach prawn salad (my favorite) and mixed nut salad. We had to do a lot of cutbacks at our company so we no longer have them cater our lunch 5 days a week. But due to the fact they have been catering for us for years (before I started working here) and that our Founder loves them, we still have them cater for us 2-3 days out of the week. I love what they offer and pretty much caters to our needs. I haven't had the pleasure to get breakfast or lunch by visiting the deli but I would eventually would like to. As for the staff, awesome people. So far I've met Laverne (don't think that's how you spell her name), Kristin, Rene, Kasey and two other gentlemen (but I don't remember their name). If these people reflect the personality for everyone else that works there... then that's a family I would love to be a part of. They always greet you with a smile (makes you want to hug them the next time you see them), personable personalities (makes you want to take them out for a few margaritas and have a good laugh) and excellent service (do what they can to cater to your wants/needs in terms of food). I don't what options you have if you're there in person, but the takeout had white meat turkey (which I like) very moist. No gravy, but it didn't need it (don't know if it's an option in person). They were all out of turkey at that point, which I don't mind because that means they really are cooking the turkey fresh daily. I ordered chicken salad instead. I long ago lowered my standards for deli fare so that I wouldn't always be disappointed (why can't the west coast figure out how to make a decent sandwich without charging $8 - $10 for processed meat?). However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sandwich from Marsha's. The bread was fresh, and the chicken salad well seasoned. Service was fast & friendly, too, and I got out the door for under $7. Not sure I'll make the trip regularly since Flaming Dogs is walking distance from the office and I'm lazy like that, but next time I have to take my car to/from the shop, I'll plan to stop here to pick up lunch. Got a turkey sandwich on Dutch crunch with everything but lettuce/onion/mayo. Sandwich was decent but it didn't quite wow me. It sounds like you can time it to get the turkey fresh roasted which unfortunately this was not. I came across Marsha's Lunchbox when I was driving to Office Depot one day. They have a cute little red and green sign outside that definitely caught my attention. Since that fateful day, I have been to Marsha's Lunchbox half a dozen times, always bringing different people with me to share with them the goodness that is the turkey and stuffing w/ cranberry sandwich. This is what I always get because you can never have too much Thanksgiving! Personally, I like it on sliced sourdough. I once had a friend who ordered it on Dutch Crunch and remarked that the bread to filling ratio wasn't as good (I made him try mine to compare). As others have said, it's very clean and pleasant to sit down and eat in. They have a huge variety of potato chips (local and national brands), which is great for those who need that kind of thing. And after reading the Yelp review about her catering, I may just have to try that sometime too! The only complaint I have is that parking is difficult on a crowded day. The body shop next door often occupies a lot of the surrounding area. Hard to change that though! read more
