This has quickly become my favorite ice cream spot. You can pop in and get Mitchell's ice cream without standing in any line! I love finding these neighborhood hidden gems. The inside is clean, organized, and the selections are curated well. I wouldn't hesitate picking up any of the grocery items; the products aren't collecting dust leaving you to wonder how long they've been there or if they're expired. It feels like a boutique convenience store (if that's even a thing?) and a pleasant upgrade from the previous owner. Only challenge is curbing my ice cream habit (trying to get summer ready y'all) [Quick edit] I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention the owner/staff are the nicest folks imaginable. I don't recommend this place -- it took 10m to make 2 sandwiches and then we got food poisoning from them! It might be convenient for pre-packaged convenience items but I wouldn't buy anything fresh from here again. read more

A little TREASURE in the NEIGHBORHOOD Went there today and enjoyed my visit. A courteous customer-friendly young man was there who told us he's been open since October 1, 2023 after purchasing the store from the prior owner. Hours: 8:00 am - 9:00 pm daily Location: literally in the San Carlos Devonshire residential neighborhood between and among houses and apartments. It's just off San Carlos Ave. but you can't see it from San Carlos Ave. Parking: curbside, free. Market/convenience store: a surprisingly large assortment of: -beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic -snacks: potato chips, candies, small baked goods, etc. -dry and canned foods -toiletries/sundries There's even bagged ice! Everything was neatly arranged on the shelves, no dusty expired items. The lighting is brighter than before and plenty of room in the aisles. Sandwich shop: I ordered a #2 Tuna Salad and a #5 Italian sandwich, both on Soft Sweet rolls (like French bread) and they have other choices too. He made them in the back room and wore gloves, clean and sanitary. They're made to order, not premade, and each sandwich was $13.99 Credit cards are accepted. Ice cream shop: in the back room, featuring Mitchell's ice cream of SF. Not just scoops but also shakes, banana splits, sundaes, etc. I'll be back to get some! read more

I've gone here a few times for snacks or sandwiches. The sandwiches are great and made to order. Good snack selection. Today my baby and I got caught in the rain and they let me hangout in the store until the rain passed. They offered me free coffee as well. Love this neighborhood spot. read more

Renovated!! It's so nice now! I remember, just in April, the first time I went, I got a popsicle, it was bad, floppy, expired. And this time when I went on 10/3/23 There was a "Grand opening sign" I got Sharp Cheddar and Parmesan Cheese its, Mango High-chews, and Raspberry Snapple. Not expired, it was great! There's a man, and a i think 2 lady's that work there. There's also a baby that one of the lady's has. The baby's' adorable. There is also a bit of the store with medicine, cooking oil, canned food, basically just essentials! Great store, great service, and great food. read more

Hadn't been there in a while but loved the transformation from the prior aging decor. I was glad I tried a scoop of Michele's ice cream. Abdu, the owner, is just super friendly and goes all out, which was a bonus. read more

Saw this on a true crime channel. The original owner Shu Ming Tang from Taiwan moved here for a better life only to be murdered in 1993 by Rayna Raymos. Reading the reviews it seems like it wasn't a place that has a lot of money for robbery. My condolences to his family. read more

Their deli sandwiches are absolutely amazing! Everything is super fresh and up to standards. I also could not resist when I saw that they sold Mitchell's ice cream. The owner is very nice as well. Will def be going back for lunch soon. read more

This place saves the day when you need a Gatorade to cure a hang over or some snacks when you need some munchies. There's never a line and all the basics are here. It's truly a nice convenience to have around the block. read more

I'm new to the Devonshire neighborhood, and at first didn't know what exactly to make of this place. It's small, and stocked mostly with basics (candy being a basic in my book). But I learned today what a gem the place really is, and why you should go there. I was setting off on a bike ride and had just whizzed down the long hill above the store - only to realize I'd forgotten my water bottle. I had no money on me at all; but not wanting to climb back up the slightly grueling hill, I explained the situation and asked the proprietor if I could take a bottle on credit. And he - never having met me - said sure. Try THAT at Safeway. So you may not be able to get your week's groceries here, or find your favorite brand of gluten free muffins or nuac nam sauce or whatever, but every neighborhood should have a store like this. I was really hoping that this would be a frozen in time little gem of a general store oozing with charm and character. Unfortunately, its just a very basic store with very basic supplies poorly maintained. I can't imagine anyone in the neighborhood stopping off for basics instead of getting in the car and driving to Safeway. I continued to hope beyond reason that the deli sandwiches would be something special. Wrong again. One kind of bread (soft subway roll) with a choice of maybe four meats slapped together with lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo. If the owner cared a bit more, then I would have too. read more

Great place to stop for a good deli sandwich. This store has a real interesting history. Built when hunting lodges were in the area. 20's I believe. English Tudor style. Next door was the Hidden Valley Inn. Torn down in the 50's. Big box like apt building is there now. When I was a kid the Maier family owned the store. Fine folks. read more

This place is iconic San Carlos. It's a perfect neighborhood corner store. Anyone giving a bad review for there not being enough options is too stupid to even realize it's called "the little store". I grew up going here everyday after school with my friends, sitting on the stoop eating candy, and having laughs. I'm now I'm my 30's and the owner, Chun, is someone I still stop by to say hi to when I'm in town. Try the sour gummy burger -sounds gross, but it's a tasty little treat. read more

Extra point for character. Unique and novel for the area, the Store offers all kinds of staples and goodies like candy, beverages, and cigarettes for the habit-formed. Blow a fuse, need diapers, soap, a can of beans or a newspaper? It's all there. Candy? Check, big time. Frozen treats? Check. Beer? Check. The Suns are a neighborhood fixture, know the goings-on, and always greet with a smile.I wish more business owners were as personable as this (literally) Mom 'n' Pop. Open 8:00 to 7:00 I think. This store serves a single purpose CONVENIENCE! So if you are disappointed that they do not serve a fine selection of bread and meats then hmm, maybe you should go to a DELI. The purpose of a convenience store is to be able to stop quickly on your way home and pick up those couple items you need. Sure you will pay a few more bucks but it beats dealing with the crowds at Safeway. I can't say enough about the owners. Literally years will pass and I will pop in and they will remember my face like it was just yesterday. I love stopping in for my soda or candy fix discreetly and then driving 30 seconds further to my house. If you are lucky enough to have it near-by, take advantage! read more

I came here semi-regularly during high school. Used to stop off, usually on a Friday, buy about 5 bucks worth of candy, then went home and ate it while relaxing. Sometimes I'd walk here from my house just for the heck of it(it was a good mile walk with some hills, but it was worth it). The Sun family(I hope they still own it) are very classy people and they were always a joy to talk to. Pretty good candy selection given the store's size. I believe they also made some nice sandwiches and carried a bunch of snack food. A tad pricey for some items, but you have to expect that for this type of store. Devonshire Store FTW! read more

This place is a great anachronism. I never saw a local grocery store in the middle of a residential area for a very long time. To see this place brings back a lot of old memories growing up where someone could go to the local grocery store and get a YooHoo and a candy bar. I got there a little after 11am to grab a sandwich. The place was packed with kids from local schools. It was wonderful to see. The sandwich and A&W Root Beer was reminiscent of times long gone. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but I loved it. read more

The owners are what makes this little store 5 stars. Yes, you cannot go full on grocery shopping here but if you need something quick, pop in and try your luck. I once needed 2 eggs for a recipe I started making halfway then stupidly realized I couldn't continue. They didn't sell any eggs at the store but the owner went upstairs and got 2 eggs from his own refrigerator and gave them to me. I also see him looking out for the neighborhood kids walking home from school and calling out to say hi to the traffic workers and regulars who come by for quick refreshments. My grandparents have brought me to Little Store for as long as I can remember! For such a little store you wouldn't expect much but boy are you proven wrong. The owners are some of the funniest and sweetest people you will ever meet . They will always greet you warmly and take the time to talk to you. I've been going to The Little Store since before I could remember. The owners are always friendly and warm. As a child, I use to walk to The Little Store store to buy candy with my allowance. The owners were always sweet and warm with us children. Also, for such a small store, they have a nice variety of snacks, lunch items, and incidentals. This place has been around since anyone can remember, and it has always served it's purpose for convenience. If you live in the neighborhood and you run out of something, instead of taking the time to go out of the way and drive to a Safeway you can just walk here, granted it doesn't have EVERYTHING.. it does have the basics. The owners have been around to watch the neighborhood kids grow from toddlers to young adults and they build rapport with everyone. If you go once you might not get anything out of it, but to those that grow up in the area, it really is a gem. There's candy, sandwiches (not a Lorenzo's sandwich or anything but it's cheap and good), drinks, and they have the coldest beer in town! ask anyone. T'his building start as a real estate office when the area was develope back in the 1940. It bacame a neighbor hood store run by a retire police officer and his family. I used to go the three blocks from my house to this store severl times a week for my mother. Lost track of the store when I went into the service in 1961. It has changed hands many time since then I am sure. The store was down stair and the family lived up stairs.
