This review is strictly for the deli and Starbucks. I go here often for lunch because I'm down the road. Usually get a sandwich, sushi or something from the deli like chicken wings or mash potato's etc. Have fun here. There could be 7 employees working the deli and only 2 are doing anything. They will see a line of like 8 people waiting to get a sandwich and they will only have 1 person helping. Meanwhile 2 or 3 other people just laughing and chatting in the back or up front at the soup station talking to the rest of the stores employees. Time when they put out food is inconsistent. You can go at 9am and they will have all their food out. Chicken, ribs, corn dogs, Mac n cheese, etc. You can also go at 11am and they will only have pizza sticks and some fried chicken? So there are times I go for lunch and there's nothing. When do they actually make the food? Because it's never been the same times or the same amount of food out ready to be sold. I go there and it's either full of every selection or just corn dogs at 1130 am. It's very irritating. Now for the Starbucks side. There's a real one across the street but it's convenient to use the one within Safeway while I'm on lunch. I go multiple times a day to this Safeway. Either to get lunch and or coffee or items I need from home. There's only ever 1 or 2 employees at Starbucks. If there's 1 person working they're working so slow while also stopping to talk to customers or the Safeway employees. Even if there's multiple people waiting. If there's 2 employees then 1 is working and the other is just pretending to fix the mug display in front of it for what seems forever. Your 1 coffee if you're the only customer and 1 person is working will probably take like 7 minutes to get to you. read more

Rolled in here pretty late. Around 1130pm in a Wednesday night. They are open until 1pm so it was pretty late and dead inside. Only about 5 people during the 15 minutes I was there. I was mostly here for a quick snack. There are two entrances on each end of the building. The entrances towards the produce section was the only one open. You walk in and it goes produce on the right wall. Butcher in the back right corner. Meats along the back wall. Bakery and then deli in back left and left wall. They were restocking so lots of boxes everywhere. Everyone was hard at work and avoided eye contact. They didn't seem like they were low on any products at least in the bakery and deli section. I was able to find a few different intriguing options other than just a sandwich. The front of the store where the cashiers are does seem pretty small and very close to the start of the aisles and so if you have a cart you'll be weaving in and out and side stepping anyone walking by. Super huge parking lot. It's the only major grocery store in the area so they must serve a ton of people. It's in walking distance of the train and it's next to several different restaurants, boutiques, and shops. read more

Ha dang if you're not gonna have a bagger then don't just assume I am gonna use so many bags. Quick take: Unfortunately, this store is closest to us This location has to be one of the worst Safeways. They got rid of all the hand carry baskets. So it's either use your hands or gran a cart. The pad at checkout wouldn't take my phone number so the cashier was mumbling about having to manually enter it. Safeway is way over priced. I'm going to use my members savings when I shop. I've been overcharged at this Safeway more than once. I try to go as early as possible in order to get in and out. read more

It's honestly incredible How disgusting the people who work here are. They all treat you with such judgment as soon as you walk through the door I went in my pajamas and never felt so mistreated just because of what I was wearing. That should tell you about the type of people who shop here. I rather go to the Redwood City location or Trader Joe's and Trader Joe's setup gives me major anxiety. This Safeway is probably one of the worst in the area. It's the last resort when I end up having to come here, which is typically the only reason I go. It's usually slow and the lines are typically super long, because they don't open up the check stands, among other things. Having been a previous employee of Safeway in another area and also another grocery store, I feel I do know a little how these places work. But today was funny. The older gentleman with a whitish-gray hair and baseball cap who was doing carts, proceeded to get upset with me because one of the front doors weren't working. I asked him if it was working because it looked like he was working on It, and he said yes. So I proceeded to try to walk through the door. Turns out, the door was broken. He then mumbled you could try to push it open. But it was clearly broken. I went out the other door and I told him that the door is not working. He then proceeded to follow me out of the store and yell at me, saying he's not a mechanic. I responded and said he didn't need to be a mechanic to see that the door was broken. He then proceeded to say something else and follow me to my car. When I got in my car and told him to have a nice day, maybe he would stop talking to me. He proceeded to continue to yell things at me. As I pulled out of the parking lot, he then did a cross sign over his chest, as though I needed Jesus. Sir. As I was checking out there was a 'Karen' of sorts yelling at a clerk saying that whatever she was pissed about was "absolutely unacceptable", I chuckled. I guess I do agree with her after this odd incident because regardless of what this man was upset about in his life, he should haven't reacted the way he did. Bless his heart. read more

I can verify this Safeway location has EV charging stations but only a couple of stations and they will likely be in use. If you are looking to get in and out, parking is a bit of a slog but this is a great location for picking up hot and ready meals and fresh produce. We came for some beverages and fresh fruit. Go to aisle 3 for adult beverages as it a bit daunting. Personally, I was impressed by the cleanliness and organization of the store. It actually reminded me of other locations based on layout. If you only have a few item, go to the fast lane as it can get quite backed up. Thanks for making this store a great experience to visit Safeway team. read more

Hires horrible employees who have by far the worst customer service of any grocery store I have been to. I went in a line with the light on and waited with a single item. The cashier had a nice long conversation with the customer ahead. Then after ten minutes tells me the lane is closed! This is the second time I have had that happen. Frankly there seems to be a pattern of descriminatory behavior of employees who show preferential treatment to customers of a similar background as them. Got a loaf of bread (ciabatta slices) , and just in 2 days got mold, so got back and exchange for another ( after the lady at the personal checkout argued with me and asking what did I do to the bread?! Apparently none of the workers here speak English when I ask for help they all say "I don't speak English" I spoke the the manager tonight by the name of Karla and she completely dismissed what I said and said "no I don't think so" I was also asked to move from the line I was in for no reason while other ppl got in line instead. This is the second time I had a bad experience here with discrimination, this happened today around 7:30 on register 5. One of my favorite Safeways in the Bay area. It's a large store that has a lot of produce options, very well organized and nicely decorated. People who work here are relatively friendly. It's really hard to judge when you see new faces working here every time you shop which is not unusual for a big chain like Safeway. Overall it's a great store with at a nice location and important part of the community. read more

This review is primarily for the deli/prepared food section. I wasn't really expecting much from this place to be honest but at least I was willing to give it a try. One of the things I would often get here are the 8 piece fried chicken for about $9.99; was it good? Nope, but it filled that craving for fried chicken and they were massive portion sizes. I used to get my fried chicken fix from Krispy Krunchy till they raised the prices. At the prices that we're charging I may as well go to Jollibee for quality fried chicken. But anyway, that's not what this is all about. The fried chicken from Safeway has a thick batter and is more on the salty size I'm not saying it bad but it definitely fills an unhealthy craving and I don't judge if that's what you're into. One of the other things that also stick out are the rib tips. At an equivalent price as the half rack ribs you're better off just getting these. They're usually lathered in caramelized generic bbq sauce. Tbh it tastes like that Sweet Ray's BBQ sauce that you find everywhere but don't let that dissuade you from giving this a try. That tangy generic bbq sauce mixed with the fat from the rib tips combined is a match made in clogged artery heaven. Here's the unfortunate thing though....they rarely have these...seriously, what's the deal?! I tried coming back 4 times a week for 2 weeks and only found these once during that time. Now last but not the least, my most favorite thing the hot foods section would have to be the chicken wings. It's probably been a decade since wingstop had wings these size. Most of the wing sizes nowadays from most restaurants are the size of your pinky and some are overcooked and dry; not this place though. Surprisingly I prefer these over most of the wingstop throughout the peninsula with the exception of the San Carlos location because the wings from these other places just aren't the same as they used to be. The only downside is the lack of choices when it comes to sauces for these including bbq, buffalo, and salt & vinegar. Now hear me out, the smell from the salt & vinegar is so foul that it'll seep into your car for several days if you get this but it sure tastes the best out of all of them. Out of all the wings, this one tend to be more crispy over the others. The buffalo one is a close favorite for me because of the mild spice but what it lacks is that crispy exterior. The BBQ one...just don't. Don't even bother. Bland, SUPER dry, either soggy or hard depending on your luck....just don't. TLDR: Fried chicken - meh, but good enough for the price Ribs - skip them and go for rib tips Rib tips - so good yet so bad for you. Hmmm generic bbq sauce Chicken wings - big individual portions. I always bring bags with me, one insulated. Aruna was the cashier at the only open check out line. As she's about to start bagging, I ask her to put perishables in the black bag. She ignores me and puts my perishables in my non insulated bag. I ask again. She starts arguing with me! She keeps saying "do you want to waste a bag?" I've been coming to this Safeway for years and this morning was the first time I've had a terrible experience with a cashier! When I approached the front checkout line ELLEN came over and started ringing me up. I IMMEDIATELY told her I need cash back and she was very rude and said she doesn't have a lot of money in the register and then asked me how much. I told her $40 to which she replied "okay" then she's tossing my groceries and shoving them down the counter at me and I'm the one bagging absolutely shocked at what I'm seeing. When it comes time for me to pay I put my debit card and she presses a bunch of buttons and prints my receipt so fast. When I said I need my cash back she said it's too late you used credit and I said no i didn't? I specifically told you I'm using my debit! She said it's too late. Over all she was VERY rude and I left feeling extremely pissed. It was 8am and maybe she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I sincerely hope no one else experiences her wrath today. read more

Very mid grocery store. Prices slightly above average, selection slightly below average. Deli counter has nothing special, there are rarely more than 2 checkouts open, it's usually one. It's not very busy, so there's always about 3 carts in front of you. I'd go somewhere else if somewhere else was closer. read more

So disappointed in these employees! A thief walked out with some booze and a bag of groceries- the Asst. Mgr. was checking me out and excused herself to go deal with the situation. I watched her confront the thief and tell him to go inside in which a confrontation began. He gave up the booze but then wouldn't give up the bag filled with groceries (he was in line behind me at one point so i know he didn't pay for them). Anyhow, a struggle began and that's when i went inside to alert the other employees that there was a situation. They kept doing their job, saying, it was store policy to let them go and there was nothing they could do. I get it - sign of the times but let's not throw our hands in the air and ignore wrongdoing- i just wanted them to support their coworker and show a united front so thief thief knows not to come back. The guy working in customer services is rude and an disgrace to your store (slim to medium build, about 5'7", dark brown/black hair, glasses and some facial hair). He's served me a few times now and each time he treats customers as a nuisance and will roll his eyes or give similar behaviours. Why work in the customer service domain if you can't stand serving/helping people. Get another job dude. To the store manager, you are going to get a regional complaint soon and should address this before it looks bad on you too. Generally the staff at the store are decent and helpful, just this one guy is letting you down big time. read more

The good: clean, well stocked. The bad: THE DELI! Every time I go in there it's like pulling teeth just to get some help. The employees in the whole deli section, with the exception of the people making the sushi or the two Hispanic girls manning the sandwich counter, have no problem letting you wait in line while they hide in the back just goofjng off and wasting time. I normally don't complain or make such assumptions but when it happens literally every time I go in there then clearly some of the employees have no problem getting paid for doing nothing And not to mention providing mediocre customer service. I was also a Safeway employee and I know on my end all of my bases were covered. This review is for the floral department: Today is Latin America's Mother's Day. This place usually has a good selection of flowers/roses, but not today. There were 4 rose bouquets available, all looked wilted and old. I went to ask the lady working behind the floral counter if they had any fresh ones, she said no. That if I wanted a better selection, to go to Redwood City. Considering that was out of my way, I knew I couldn't go there so I asked if she could at least give me a discount for the poor quality selection they had. She said they don't give discounts for roses (which is a lie because I know someone who used to be a floral manager at Safeway and told me they do). Anyway, I got no help from her and did not receive good service. Won't be returning here for flowers, I'll take her advice and go somewhere else. Very disappointed. read more

This store could easily be 4-5 stars because as a whole, I find the employees nice/the store clean/the perishable food looks fresh/wide variety of western products. But I subtracted a star for that disgusting eye sore that sits at the main entrance of the store - THE SOUP STATION. - OMG. I love grabbing soup as a quick dinner from a neighborhood grocery store but I've never purchased it here. The soup station always looks gross and unsanitary. The soup station is just feet away from the entrance doors that keep opening and closing letting dust inside the soup... and yes, inside the soup because lazy customers often leave the lids open. The station is always covered in soup that people have dripped all over the place and if it's low, it gets all dried out and looks so unappetizing. That soup station is a gas station toilet bowl and unacceptable. The station is appalling and it's the first thing you see when you enter the store. And I'm not being hard on Safeway (I love Safeways) but I come here all of the time and that soup station never fails to gross me out. This is an important position since I was urgently calling about a missing payment card. Horrible customer service at the check out line. Everyone I've had to use the actual non self check out there's an issue with the Safeway app coupons I clip. Today they failed to give me my $5 off an order because I was a few cents short of $50, when I tried to add another item to my order to get to $50 they would not let me. Why is it so difficult to ring up another item or refund the order and redo it? Those working at the cashier counters are just awful, never has a good experience with them. read more

Night staff is not fit for customer service. Many employees lack sincerity in their way of dealing with non-Hispanic people since all the ones I have seen speak Spanish and I have observed a difference in treatment between Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers. Bad vibes are the last thing you want from a grocery store like Safeway. Needs major auditing. This is not a customer-friendly store. After a terrible experience at the Pharmacy at CVS in San Carlos, I wanted to praise the experience we had after at the Pharmacy in Belmont Safeway (ECR). My 89 year old mom was really jerked around by the CVS pharmacy in San Carlos (I reviewed it just before this review) . After she didn't have her flu shot there, we went to Belmont Safeway pharmacy where she was a "walk in". Filling out the forms took about two minutes, we waited for the people head of us to vacate the waiting room (about three minutes). Once it was available, mom was lead in and given the shot. In and out took about five minutes. Safeway has a spacious waiting room (they only allow one person in at a time) and a separate area where the shots are given. I've seen them disinfect after shot given. They do ask if senior to call ahead to make sure they have the double dose. I went there two weeks ago for my flu shot - no problem. Easy, clean and efficient. read more

This review is for their delivery service. It is COMPLETE & UTTER GARBAGE!!! Selected 6-7pm delivery, and even at 7:20pm, the "status" says 6-7pm delivery. So I call in, they have no clue what's going on, thinking maybe it's outside the lobby of our condo, or maybe the driver is picking up the groceries, or... or... In other words, they have no clue. Even worse, they used Door Dash (insert "total circus" here) as their "delivery partner." Add to it, most of what I needed, which is obvious stuff they ALWAYS have, they claimed not to have (like chicken). So I drive to Safeway, guess what, the chicken is plentiful. Never makes a sincere effort listening and considering customers' comments, her condescension is rude and patronizing. * We have dealt with Phatchariya personally before; the story has always been the same, she's insincere, never listens nor makes any slight effort to satisfy customers' needs. We're deeply disappointed and unsatisfied with her whole condescending attitude and lack of customers' courtesy. I don't know why this Safeway has such a low rating here on Yelp. I think this is one of the best safeways that I have been to. It's big, it has many options of the produce that are normally not available at other Safeways, I can always find here what I'm looking for.
