The Oakwood Plaza was constructed on the same land where the old Six Flags Atlantis Waterpark…read moreexisted in the 1980s. In 1994 this plaza became a bustling shopping extravaganza in east Hollywood for years until the Dania Pointe mega shopping center stole a majority of it's customers. The parking lot has adequate spaces to support the plaza activity. Entry into the plaza is simple off Sheridan Street and Stirling Road. The Dave and Busters, BJ's Wholesale Club, Home Depot, Ross, City Furniture and Miller's Ale House have continued to stay in business but unknown if they are thriving. The Regal Oakwood Theaters is finally permanently closed and now the new ultra modern Regal Cinema has opened in Dania Pointe directly across the street. The Gold's Gym and the Big Lots are also out of business. There are several EV stations at the NE corner of the plaza. In my opinion, within the next three years, the Dania Pointe will eventually destroy all hopes of this plaza's lifeline.

Back then, the S Bus would drop you off at the entrance of the food court and the mall was just 2 floors but look at Aventura Mall now! Completely unrecognizable to the Mall I remember as a teen. Especially since it seems like the average stores I remember are gone and it's all Prada, Gucci, and luxe stores now, but I'm not gonna knock it too much as I took full advantage and stocked up on my Nespresso pods while I was here. At least they still have JC Penny's. I was able to find a Miami Hurricanes shirt to bring back to my dad as a gift. They also have a Joe and the Juice store which I always stop by when I'm here and get a green tonic from them. I have to admit; I like how they revamped the food court so that its modern and has a wide variety of options. They even have a ramen kiosk! Still I keep coming back because where else can you find a dress for under $20 and I can find a gift for anyone on my list here. This Ross was a pleasant surprise. I stopped in because my friend got me hooked on sparkly, inexpensive, and surprisingly comfortable sandals by Andiamo. I lucked out and they had a couple of pairs in my size. Unlike my past experiences with checking out, this was painless. This Ross seems to be a bit better than some of the others I have visited.
