Excellent shopping experience today! Decided it was time for a new winter jacket and found 4 with…read morepotential. I took the jackets along with a quilted vest to the fitting room. Oscar was the fitting room attendant and he was so pleasant and helpful. The jackets were kind of puffy and clumsy and he helped me get them to the room. I ended up with a Kenneth Cole jacket for $59.99 and a Calvin Klein quilted vest for $39.99. I even managed to find a pair of Adidas jogging shoes that fit for $49.99. Although there was a line in check out, it moved swiftly. They seemed to have all the cash registers open to accommodate the customers. My cashier, Jose, was cheerful and efficient. He did a real nice job of bagging my purchases. I have shopped or stopped (not all visits end up with purchases :) a few times each year since this store opened a few years ago. This store has always been clean and orderly at the times that I have been there. The staff members that I have encountered have always been pleasant and helpful. This store might not offer quite as much as some others, but if your timing is right you can find some pretty nice items for some pretty reasonable prices. Even when I don't find what I came in the store to find, I always feel good in this store. This store just makes me feel happy!

Since Rosa J. has found pleasure in thrift-shopping, she hasn't been visiting a T.J. Maxx or a…read moreMarshall's as regularly as she should. However, she won't completely ditch the discount stores because there are several advantages when shopping at Maxx or a similar store like this: 1) a massive selection of handbags and shoes: I prefer a brand-new handbag or an unworn pair of shoes. I've realized that half of my handbags from my past "compulsive" shopping addiction weren't functional for my city life. I would rather invest on a handbag, which would cost $100 to $150, but it will last a long time. Shopping at Maxx for handbags is easy-breezy, without being bothered by sales associates. For the shoes, I haven't brought a pair of shoes from a thrift store, yet I've purchased many pairs from Maxx and they last. 2) are you a fan of Michael Kors? If you are, I saw lots of MK merchandise in this location. 3) organic shampoo, shower gel, facial wash, and hand soap: I haven't brought a drug store brand for some time. My trick is to convert my credit card reward into Maxx gift cards, so my "reimbursements" have been used for this category. This T.J. Maxx is very close to the CTA Kedzie Orange Line station. If you're in the south-side area out and about, hit it up when you get a chance.

My buddy and I were shopping for Carhart and Dickies clothes, but didn't want to shop online,…read morebecause so often stuff doesn't fit and you have to return it, didn't want to pay Lincoln Park prices. Looking for good selection and relaxed shopping environment. I suggested Zemsky's Archer Avenue. I am from the South Side and have known the store since I was a kid. Surprised and happy they are still there. What a weird experience. I was dissappointed that the prices are equivalent to what you can find online and secondly, the sales lady just did not leave me alone, making idle conversation, following me around, but not helping at all. And I needed help. because strangely, they were out of my size. I'm LARGE/XLARGE!! Lots of 2XL 3XL...no L or XL??? I am a 65 yr old man originally from the neighborhood. Why is she shadowing me? On top of that the dressing rooms don't have mirrors, and the few mirrors they do have are just slim junky ones in random locations. Being able to try clothes on is the only real reason to not shop online. Despite the mediocre selection, my buddy and I each bought over $250.00 worth of clothes. However, due to the hovering sales people and inability to see what you look like in the clothes, quite a few of the clothes my friend bought didn't fit. So we schlepped back to Archer Avenue the next day to exchange the sizes. When we tried to exchange the clothes, one 27.00 pair of pants did not match any pant (color?) on the receipt. The salesgirl was very clear that they would..."review the security tape of the purchase" before they would refund. This is $27.00 of over $500.00 of combined sales....Seriously??? My friend had exchanged clothes of about 200.00 and at this point I would have just eaten the $27.00 and got a refund of the entire remaining purchase, but, in principle...yes, go ahead and review the tape because at this point, I am not giving you $27.00!!! Needless to say about :30 later we got our money because the error was theirs. Brick and Mortar stores can beat online shopping if they do things the right way...but at this point, I hope Zemsky's goes belly-up.
