We started off the consult with a conversation about the NBA and if KD will re-up with Golden State or will he bounce. This totally puts me at ease and made me a little less nervous when I heard I indeed needed a root canal. He explained the procedure without overly simplifying it and I left feeling totally good about the procedure. Funny thing is that from the time of the consult to the day of the appointment, I talked to way too many people about their experiences and googled the hell out of root canal (I'm talking everything from images to videos) - sufficed to say, I was hella freaking. But once again, after I sat down with Doctor Michaelian for a minute or two, he was able to put me back ease and when it was time for the root canal, I wasn't completely losing my mind. And it went well. I mean I've had deep cleanings (that's a whole different story and sadly maybe indicative of my lack of commitment to diligent oral care and upkeep) that've taken longer and weren't as comfortable. Dr. Michaelian and Kathy did an outstanding job on my root canal. It was a relatively complex one requiring cleaning out three different channels which they were able to do in one visit while retaining the existing crown that I had. They work seamlessly as a team and procedure was very quick and efficient. There was very little pain the evening of the procedure and the following day there was none at all and there hasn't been since. They scored 10 out of 10 and did an A+ job and I will definitely go back there for any further endodontic needs and will be recommending them to anyone I know that requires that kind of work. Prior to the root canal I had a lot of pain and could not even eat oatmeal on that side of my mouth and thanks to them, in less than an hour that completely changed. read more

I hate visiting dentists, but Marshall Michaelian really cares to ensure a pleasant customer experience. I was in and out without feeling any pain for a root canal in part due to his accurate injections for anesthesia and the music provided by an iPod to distract me from the noise. I'd give him 5 stars if it wasn't for the burning smell of the tools and chemicals being used as well as the tear in the corners of my mouth without applying vaseline on the lips beforehand. The staff was helpful in explaining things for me and responsive to my needs and requests. read more

My dentist said I needed two root canals. I found Dr. Michaelian through my dental insurance website. Easy to make an appointment -- just a couple of days out. Pleasant experience with his staff up until the time I saw the doctor himself. He looked at the x-rays that his assistant took, and then did some examining, testing, and analysis himself, and then concluded that I didn't need a root canal; not even one! And that's the kind of visit you want to have with an endodontist! And then Dr. Michaelian patiently explained to me all of the variables about my situation, and he patiently answered my questions. Dr. Michaelian (Marshall J.) was just fantastic in explaining the root canal procedure thoroughly, answering questions and ensuring that I had a comfortable and absolutely painless experience. So many professionals administer local anesthetic, but don't bother to check if you feel pain or not. He does so BEFORE the procedure begins. And if you feel even a twinge or have an idea you might be about to experience some pain, he stops and gives you an injection under the tooth directly to the nerve (which doesn't hurt at all). His manner is very calming and he eliminates the worry associated with this very invasive and sometimes nasty procedure. His assistant Kathy is also super professional, an active listener who responds to what you say and she's johnny on the spot in precipitating what he wants before he asks. She also asks if you want to listen to an Ipod that they have for patients so you don't have to be nervous hearing drilling. In all honesty, I've never seen a better assistant in any dental office I've ever been to! Also, Dr. Michaelian shows you both before and after digital slides of your tooth so you can have confidence everything was done correctly. Finally, this endodontist cares enough to send a reminder card to come back in a year for a free checkup so they can make sure there are no issues. How's that for super service? read more

Dr, Marshall J Michaelian , ( Root Canal ) and minor gum surgery .... I was referred to Dr, Michaelian from my dentist to do my root canal my dentist called on Monday to make the appointment for me told them that I was in pain so the gave me the first appointment they had for Tuesday " the next day ".. They also told them that I was going to be bring my 5 year old with me because she doesn't start school in till 11:30 they said it would be fine for her to come with me .... So Tuesday came we got there at 8:40 am fill out paper work "first visit " . Then came time for me to sit on the dentist chair Cathy walk me in told me she would be taking X-rays to take a look ... Then came Dr, Michaelian told me that I had a bit of a bigger problem by looking at my x ray found that I had tooth decayed down to my gums ( so after his root canal I was going to get a crown on my back tooth but in order to do this had to do a monir surgery to clean my gums ) doctor told me it would be fast and pain free! Told me I would first need sign a couple papers befor we got started ok (payment papers ) so it came time for my daughter to leave the room Cathy told me that they had a small desk where she can color and wait for me ... Cathy told me if I would like to lisent to music she said it would help I was a little nerves gave me the I pod and got started ... First came the anesthesia ( that would be the only thing I felt throughout the root canal and the gum surgery ) told me what he was doing throughout the procedures told me what he was using and what it was for took more x rays to see how everything was looking and to she if it needed more filling ... I'm not sure how long it took but to me it was really fast Cathy and Dr Michaelian where asking me how I was doing the whole time .. They gave me instructions on how to clean and take care of my mini surgery.I had a great appointment ... It's 7:00 o'clock and I feel great anesthesia has gone away but I feel no pain ... The only thing is that I would of liked more payments I have to make 4 payments but there big payments , maybe break it down into smaller payments would be great for me ...I'm a stay at home mom no insurance so you can only guess how much this is going to cost me ... Despite my letter and calls explaining my particular situation to Dr. Michaelian, he insisted on sending me to collections. It's almost as though I am now at the mercy of his decision to pursue adverse collection proceedings against me. I called and explained and even wrote a letter to Dr. Michaelian personally explaining that I was specifically told by his staff that there were no charges because my insurance had authorized my visit and any test related to my appointment. I was told I would not even have a co pay charge; hence, I was not told to pay prior to my appointment nor was I asked to pay anything after my appointment. Why do you think that is? Let me guess. Despite Dr. Michaelian and his staff's representations that my insurance would cover the visit and applicable tests, including x Rays, the insurance carrier denied some or all of his billing submittal. Now and though despite being told something to the contrary and the fact that I relied on Dr. Michaelian representations to my detriment, and that now Dr. Michaelian cannot collect from the insurance for whatever reason, he believes the best way to resolve is to go after the patient, me, who at no times deceived or mislead Dr. Michaelian or his staff, but Dr. Michaelian believes for some reason I am culpable. Or maybe it's just easier to go after me rather than deal with the insurance company and rather than keep his word or the word of his employees. I am just curious, do they teach business ethics or just ethics in dental school and if so, again just curious, what grade did Dr. Michaelian receive... no forget the grade, did he even pass that class. Well, as a matter of principle, I have no other choice but to seek adverse reviews and file complaints with regulatory agencies regarding his unscrupulous billing practices, which possibly rises to the level of fraud. Regardless of what version is presented the fact is Dr. Michaelian has irrevocably injured my reputation by sending the matter to a collection company. As I mentioned, Dr. Michaelian billing practices give pause to the possibility that he might be subjected to criminal liability, it's a stretch, but I do call your attention to the facts of my particular situation. I saw Dr. Michaelian after seeing my regular dentist, in which I took ALL necessary X rays. When I was referred to Dr. Michaelian, my dentist specifically noted, and I have now confirmed, forwarded all dental x rays to Dr. Michaelian's immediate attention PRIOR to my appointment. I confirmed as much with Dr. Michaelian's staff when asked to take X Rays. I specifically recall speaking with his staff and Dr. Michaelian personally regarding the X rays taken several days prior to my appointment. In fact, I specifically remember being told by a member of his staff that "since the insurance company is paying anyways, we take X rays". I am almost certain subpoenaing random patient records will show a pattern proving the allegation. However, to be fair, it is very possible that industry dental standards apply which dictate new X rays being taken regardless with respect to any brand new patient, however, if that is not an industry standard or even if it is, it sure waste time and money at the detriment of the patient. Either I should have been advised prior to any treatment or X rays as to my financial responsibility and had I known or had I been told I would have to pay for x rays that was already completed I would have insisted on using the EXACT same X Rays from the day earlier or I would have cancelled my appointment with Dr. Michaelian. To not advise a patient is ethically inconceivable and should subject the offending dentist and his practice to sanctions, and though I do not know this for a fact nor do I have any evidence besides my own, but I am pretty sure this is a method Dr. Michaelian uses indiscriminately and without pause, but again, those cost of course are passed along to me, or you the insured. However, on the other hand, knowingly providing me with unnecessary test with the intent on billing the insurance company, well and again, I am no lawyer, but that appears to be analogous with insurance fraud. Anyways, I am sure the proper and regulatory agencies with sort the matter out. Either way, I guess I am entitled to some vindication. Maybe this is a widespread issue of over billing and insurance fraud and needs to be looked at, starting with Dr. Michaelian and his multiple practices, both in Daly City (the one I visited) and San Mateo. Dr. Michaelian and his unethical actions subject him to penalties and he most certainly or at least ethically should be subject to disciplinary action read more

did a root canal yesterday..no pain

I want to thank Marshall Michaelian for resolving a serious tooth abscess (which developed around the root of one of my upper front teeth). Given the severity of the surrounding bone loss, I fully expected to lose the tooth, but Dr. Michaelian encouraged me to have an endodontic procedure to clear out the infection, and a stem cell/bone graft (collected from a simple blood draw, there in the office) to encourage new bone growth. The entire procedure took less than an hour, was painless after I was numbed up, and performed quietly and competently. I was impressed with everything about the office and staff, and appreciated the fact that Dr. Michaelian was willing to stay late and do the procedure the same day I first consulted him. My regular, referring dentist later told me that my abscess and resultant damage was one of the 10 worst he had ever seen in his practice, and was amazed and delighted when he reviewed the xrays a year later, which showed optimal bone remodeling around the root and absence of any infection. "You couldn't hope for a better outcome than this," he said. Needless to say, I am grateful for Dr. Michaelian's confident expertise, this technology, and the fact that I still have my tooth! read more
