I write this extensive thorough review in the hopes that it gives any readers information & experiences that I was looking for when I was searching for an endodontic practice with particular, specific aspects... Dr. Ahani and Bayside Endodontics looks so very promising! Some background: I needed 3 root canals (2 molar, 1 bicuspid). Because of the extensive context of the situation, I looked through 75 endodontic practices' Yelp reviews around the whole Bay Area (from Walnut Creek to Palo Alto), highlighting those mentioning more than just local anesthetic practices -- particularly if it was possible for IV sedation so I can get all 3 root canals in one procedure so I wouldn't have to get injected & numbed on 3 different separate areas of the mouth on 3 separate occasions...! The main reason I went for a consultation w/ them is because, through a Bard search, found that they were one of the few practices which reviews had spoken about doing 3 root canals within a single procedure; which Dr. Ahani later confirmed. They were one of the very few practices in the whole Bay Area that offer IV sedation as an option. Furthermore, they do offer inhalation sedation (nitrous oxide) & oral medication (Halcion); and another additionally impressive offering by them is that it can be done simultaneously (most others cannot)! The practice is modern, spacious, very sanitary, & clean. The building itself seemed rather outdated and betrays what the office looks like as it doesn't allude how modern it was inside the office. Calling to make an appointment, I was informed that they did not take my dental insurance (Delta Dental). I was also informed that he usually allots time for consultations at 8:45Am or 1:45PM. The CT scan seemed to be a very advanced piece of machinery. Afterward, they also took x-rays as well. Dr. Ahani is very personable, understanding, and empathetic. He understood my circumstance & my worries about it. He understood how, with 3 teeth at 3 different quadrants of the mouth, how I did not wish to go through multiple procedures for each of them, and was open & more than willing to accomplish doing it in a single procedure. He also assured me that, if I did not opt for the IV sedation that would require, he could offer both oral medication & inhalation sedation to assist w/ the anesthesia. After examining, he started explaining his assessment in which he took a page of paper and started also rudimentarily draw (doodling) what he was explaining & what was going on/happening with my teeth. After he was done explaining it all to me & gave me my options, he left & I went to the front desk. There, they totaled up to give an estimate of what the procedure would cost; both what each individual tooth would be & the total for all 3 teeth. IV sedation would add $1500-$1800 on top of that & was not covered by insurance. How it worked w/ IV sedation is that it is provided by another company; the appointment is coordinated w/ them. I was told before finding them that usually the outside companies have it that there's a deposit to be paid (like 50% the initial cost), then both businesses coordinate to make an appointment, that you are given 1 or 2 hours based on the IV sedation company (2 hours w/ the one Bayside partners with), then it will be an additional fee ($25-$50) per minutes after. In the end, together w/ the consultation and the root canal procedure on the 1st tooth, it would've been around $2500 -- if you look at the estimate, my/patient due is $2021 at the time of the procedure as about $500 was due right after the consultation; $245 for the consultation, $255 for the CT scan. Of course it only applied to the 1st tooth so it is $500 lower cost for any additional procedures (which I would need 2 more). Even with that, the other two is $3800 (for another molar, the bicuspid is $240 less). Also must again note, that that is not including the $1500-$1800 IV sedation if that is opted for. As you can see in the estimate, they charge for the nitrous-oxide, but the oral medication (Halcion) is included in the main treatment. I was told directly by Dr. Ahani the oral medication is offered & inclusive. All in all to do all 3 at the same time w/ just IV totaled around $7800! The last thing I will fault is that he also missed that a tooth, after deep & further examination by another endodontist, was determined that an extraction should be seriously considered instead of a root canal as it seems there's a considerable chance the tooth will not hold up after a root canal & permanent crown after a certain amount of time (which the tooth DID end up fracturing before extraction). After it all, I had to pass on this very promising practice and the great prospect that is Dr. Ahani. I found another endodontic practice that does take my insurance, and I just could not justify the cost difference between the 2 practices. I really do wish that it wasn't the case, or I would've gone with Dr. Ahani and Bayside Endodontics. read more

Who thought a root canal could be such a painless experience? From my visit this week to Bayside Endodontics, I truly went through one of the most dreaded procedures quite literally without any pain! The staff at the office was friendly and efficient from end to end of the whole process. On the administrative side, they called me to confirm my appointment beforehand, checked me into their systems via on boarding paperwork quite seamlessly, and provided me a quote for the procedure baking in my insurance coverage prior to the operation which took all the thinking out of the whole thing for me. Because I had to stop in before work, I really appreciated both their speediness and early morning hours to make their services more accessible. Dr. Sajini Sasthri oversaw my procedure and was incredibly kind and professional. She walked me through every step of the process, checked in with me to ensure I was comfortable, and was both reassuring and forthcoming. She and her assistants worked well together and I never once felt like anything went less than smoothly. The next day, Dr. Sasthri also called to check in with me to see how I was doing- such a thoughtful and professional gesture from an office that I'm sure is otherwise super busy! I was referred to Bayside Endodontics for a retreat root canal. It was abscessed and my cheek was swollen and I was in pain. I was fortunate to have Dr. Sajini Sasthri perform my procedure. I was very nervous and she was quick to calm my nerves. She was very professional and explained in detail every step of the procedure. I was informed that I would need the retreat done in two appointments. I was placed on antibiotics and given the date of my next appointment. Dr. Sasthri later called to check up on how I was feeling. Before my next appointment date arrived I had more swelling and pain. I called the office to report this to Dr. Sasthri. I was told she was out of the office for a few days but they would get the message to her. Dr. Sasthri called me within twenty minutes. She told me she would call in a different antibiotic for me and moved my appointment up to the first day she would return instead of make me wait until the scheduled appointment. The swelling went down and I returned and had the second treatment done. I wasn't home more than an hour when she called to see how I was feeling and if I was in any pain after the numbness wore off. I can't stressed how grateful I am to all the assistants and staff who attended to me. I recommend Bayside Endodontics to anyone who needs their services. read more

My poor review is based on the dental office staff at Bayside Endodontics. I was wondering why I received several missed calls all day today as I had my first ever root canal performed back in July. It turns out the refund check that they issued to me was Norma's error and she ended up combining someone else's refund payment with mine. So not only was paying for this procedure expensive to begin with, but now I owe them $131 because of Norma's mistake. I paid the $633 in the office that was owed when I had the procedure done. If she made this mistake on my account then what else has she slipped up on when this is her job and she does this every day? I do not need apologies. I need you to do your job correctly the first time. On the upside about this place, Dr. Fong and her dental assistants are super professional and polite. She explains the procedure to you step by step--you may just need her to repeat some things or speak slower because she kind of rushes through it. Dr. Fong even called me after the procedure just to follow-up. I had some pain after the procedure and I ended up needing to have her shave down the filling a little to make my bite more leveled. Dr. Fong and her assistant were an awesome team. My tooth was not easy to do but the whole process went smoothly. Everything was thoroughly explained and throughout I was told what was happening. She explained all options I have and the procedure we would go through, which made me confortable to go with the root canal retreatment with her. That was the longest procedure I've ever had in my life, so it was tiring and exhausting but she and her staff was always asking me how I was doing. I wish I could rate Bayside 10 stars. Bayside has truly transformed my attitude toward dental work and my oral hygiene. Due to negative experiences in the past, I've neglected significant dental work over the past 5 years. Going to the dentist became my biggest fear. I was referred by my new dentist to Bayside for two root canals to start my long journey toward a healthy mouth. The last root canal that I had (15+ years ago) was incredibly painful and just doesn't register as a positive memory. Enter Dr. Ahani. In my wildest dreams, I never expected to be laughing...and I mean full-on CRACKING up...while Dr. Ohani was operating on my mouth. Over two appointments, it was truly the most incredible experience I've ever had with a medical professional. I have only wonderful things to say about Dr. Wong and all of the staff. I had pain for about a week and my dentist referred me over. They got me in two days later. I was greeted immediately and helped within 2-3 minutes of my early arrival. My dental assistant was the best! He kept reassuring me that I was doing a great job and Dr. Wong was so patient! Courteous, professional, and incredibly precise - what more can I say about Bayside Endodontics? Dr. Fong conducted an incredibly careful and thorough cleaning of an infected root canal that was horrifically painful before she started work, and incredibly blissful when she was finished. Honestly, before this experience I had no idea what an Endodontist even was - but I swear to god I will never forget. Her team was able to rush me into the chair for treatment, but never once rushed their work while I was under the lights - deliberately cleaning every nook and cranny of my "unusually complex" infected molar. Weeks later and I am totally pain-free, grateful to this team for the incredible help they were able to provide. Funny, you really don't walk around on a normal day being grateful for the fact that your lower jaw isn't in incredible pain - but trust me, you should.
