I drove more than 70 miles to go to Dr. HyeMin Sohn because my dentist highly recommended her. I arrived to the clinic nervous about my upcoming root canal. I have the red head gene and have had issues with anesthesia and was afraid of the anticipated pain. I have to say the whole experience was actually a breeze. Claudia , Nancy and Teresita were so helpful and friendly and professional. They have a CT scanner and were able to take imaging right then to assist with the procedure. Dr. Sohn is incredibly skilled at what she does. She is an excellent communicator, and she has small hands which was a bonus because I have lock jaw. She absolutely put me at ease and the whole experience was almost pleasant- I literally could have fallen asleep. Horrible people. Had a root canal done over a year ago. At the time of service, was told insurance would cover a certain amount. Paid more than $700 . Year and half later told that I owed another $1100 because insurance did not cover it. Here's the nightmare, I was told that my bill was sent to a collection agency. I inquired why I was not told ahead of time. I was told the insurance was mailed the bill 3 days before my coverage started. If I had known that, I would have waited a week to have the procedure. When I called the collection office, they were the most rude people I have dealt with. I asked if they could offer any discount since I was a senior and war veteran. I was told no. Very unprofessional office! On my first visit, they refused to see me until they checked my insurance. They told me I wasn't covered, when I told them that I had called my insurance and said that I was covered. Then, they refunded my charge and then double charged me b/c they said my refund was a mistake. I made a second appointment which they cancelled b/c they said I didn't confirm. But I never received any texts from them. A cancelled appointment is very unprofessional when they had booked it and confirmed w/ me at the time of the appointment. 9/4/24 - Dr. Sohn saw me in San Mateo and went back into my root canal to drain my puss abscess and relieve the pressure. She prescribed another round of anti-biotics and packed my tooth full of calcium hydroxide and invited me back at the end of Sept for a 3rd & final root canal appt. 8/23/24 - Dr. Sohn does NOT mess around in San Carlos! She gets right to work. She is a pro at local anæsthesia, too - she talked to me about what she was doing and she was honest about the complications I would have because I let my abscess grow so huge. She prescribed anti-biotics, gave me a coupon for the pills and sent my prescription to a nearby pharmacy. read more

I found myself in a bit of a dental emergency--an old crown cracked, and my dentist said I needed a root canal. I was flying out in two days, so timing was everything. Thankfully, Bay Area Endo answered the phone right away. They got me in that same morning, which honestly felt like a miracle. At the visit, they took X-rays and a CT scan to check for cracks. The technology, the professionalism, and the calm way everything was explained really stood out. I don't have dental insurance, so I was nervous about the financial side of things. I needed to find an office in network with my insurance, so I did my own research and found Bay Area Endodontics. From the moment to scheduling and actually going to my appointment was great. Do yourself a favor, if you want to save your teeth, this practice is not for you! I was referred to this practice by my dentist. I had a root canal, and after two weeks, I returned because I was experiencing severe pain. They told me that it was normal and that the pain should go away on its own. Eventually, they gave me an antibiotic. After three months, the pain became unbearable, so I decided to go back. I had a CT scan at their San Mateo office, and Dr. Shadmehr, who treated me, said she needed to redo the root canal as soon as possible because it had worsened, but assured me there was no fracture. They scheduled the root canal for the following week, but then I received a phone call saying my appointment had to be canceled and rescheduled for three weeks after my original appointment. When I went in for the rescheduled root canal, I didn't see Dr. Shadmehr because she had left the practice. Instead, I saw a different doctor, who told me that my tooth was fractured and that I might need a bridge or an implant. How come they didn't tell me my tooth was fractured on the day of my original appointment? Instead, they waited three weeks and had me come in just to tell me that my tooth needs to be removed. Why did they performed a root canal to begin with if my tooth was already fractured? Unless they were the ones who fractured my tooth. I had pain and suffering , spent money, time and effort. This practice is so incompetent, with no concern for their patients. They are not personable, I feel like they're always rushing you, and couldn't care less about your teeth, as long as you pay them. read more

I just got back from having a root canal with Dr. Leong. I swear she is the best dentist. Her bedside manner is amazing. Super friendly and extremely knowledgeable in her field. I was experiencing puffy gums and we talked about my prescriptions, and she explained the connection! I was comfortable during my first visit. Today, Dr. Leong walked me through every step of my root canal as she was doing it. She told me what I would be feeling/hearing next, and exactly where in the process she was. Honestly, probably one of the easiest dental procedures I've had done. I will definitely be going back to Dr Leong again if I ever need another root canal. 10/10 recommend. The dentist himself is nice. (Other than wanting to shake my had and looking confused when I didn't take it. I try to keep my covid times touching to a minimum) Everyone was very nice. However, the office is not ND sensory sensitive friendly. It's very bright, the music was very loud, and the staff wears heavy perfume. For some reason the monitor had to be 6 inches from my face. It was also very claustrophobic, but I did like everyone there, except the second phone receptionist. One of the dental assistants accidentally, but multiple times, scratched my soft pallet with the xray frame leaving me with a sore throat. I am not sure if that due to inexperience or just a bad day. She was jumpy. Maybe nervous? If I had not had the issue with reception I would have returned. Upon departure the Dr. wanted me to have a special 3D scan. The equipment is not available in the Daly City office. They told me I had to go to San Mateo or San Carlos and only on a Tuesday. I explained that was not possible and why. The receptionist listened and said she would try to work it and would I call back to book. I tried calling back several times. I waited for the receptionist to call me back for scheduling and it's been a few weeks. Also, there's something wrong with the lunchtime voicemail it doesn't allow you to leave a message or tell you when their lunch time period is, just that they are at lunch. It just hangs up on you. I called again and got their non lunchtime voicemail which allowed me to finally leave a message. Reception finally called me back. I explained my situation, and experience and she clearly did not care. I don't know if it was the original receptionist that I met who is very nice or this is a different one, but whatever it was, she was not interested in being helpful. was told I had to go on Tuesday or there was no choice. I asked for a referral to a different place to get the scan and they said they don't do referrals. She suggested I call my GP and ask them. So they took my money and they have this restrictive scheduling policy that forces you to drive for several hours on their schedule. Policy assumes a lot of things like you have a car and you're available on their schedule and so on. They're clearly not Customer Service focused. Had I known that their office was ill-equipped and I would be sent to other cities to receive service I would not have booked with them at all. Frankly, I would like my service fee back. I was willing to deal with a scratched palette and their loud, claustrophobic, overly scented office, but these booking bait and switch shenanigans are unacceptable. This means I have to find a new endodontist and start all over again. So frustrating. read more

Later I happened to call Delta, the agent said that's not right as they are reimbursed the COVID fee for every visit. That's a scam. They're getting it from me and from Delta. I went to their office by mistake. My appointment was a couple of doors down with someone else, but they welcomed me and Dr. M. Michaelian made free x-rays, quoted lower prices than the competitor and had a charming bedside manner, offered referrals, etc. The second time he was rushed and gave me vibe of not caring. I mean, he was focused on the job and did what was needed, but once I became his patient he didn't feel the need to be nice. He is definitely an excellent professional with decades of experience and will take great care of you. After all said and done, I can get past his bedside manner because he's good at what he does and he is involved in medicine for all the right reasons. I needed a root canal and my dentist referred to Bay Area Endodontics. Easy to make an appointment. Staff welcomed me in. Dr. Victor Peritore and his assistant (I wish I could remember her name) were warm, well trained, professional, and kept me informed. Bad news. Dr. Peritore found my tooth had cracked and he wouldn't be able to do the root canal. Instead, I would need an oral surgeon to remove my tooth. He explained it would be unethical to try and mend the tooth together and complete a root canal; it would eventually fail and would have to get removed. That would cost me more in the long run. He gave me a temporary crown that fit well and wished me well with my next procedure. I found the location very clean, designed thoughtfully, and offered parking. Quality work for appropriate prices. The doctor was very honest. btw. I had a previous endodontist "repair" a split tooth of mine and complete a root canal. I didn't know it was the wrong thing to do. Luckily, Dr. Peritore is honest and didn't do the same. read more

If you don't care about covid, this place is for you When Dr. Marshall was not treating patients, he did NOT wear a mask, and constantly walked around the office, without a mask. I understand healthcare workers have been vaccinated early, and I'm fully supportive of that, but it doesn't prevent them from spreading the virus to others. This is extremely selfish and inconsiderate to his patient. Additionally, they have no separation between patients. Do not come to this place! I'll tell you what happened to me, you can make your own judgement: I was referred to by my dentist to here for root canal treatment. When I walked in, the front desk lady was nice, but the dental assistant was laughing the whole time, very weird, even when she discuss with the front desk lady about my case, she was still laughing. Then I sat down, they want to give me a Xray, I questioned that why do I need xray again? I got Xray already last year, that is why I am here. She explained, I agreed so be it. Then Dr Ellie Shadmehr came, she looked at my Xray, started to talk to me with a rude attitude and tone: "hey, your tooth was done somewhere else not in this country, it was done wrong and really bad. I know this is not a US doctor job, we don't do job like this. You must done this is China! " I was speechless at that point, thinking in my mind: that was done here in Daly City, what do you mean in China? Because I am Chinese? What is wrong if it was done in China, your tone sounds horrible, are you being racist right now? But I didn't say anything at that time. I was holding my anger. She kept going like: " I need to open it up and see if I can fix it, from the Xray, I can tell you that you have 70% chance to be fixed, or you need to remove it and get implant, tell me your decision right now!"So I asked: " I am not dentist, I don't have knowledge about it, can't make decision right now. You as professionals need to explain to me what is the impact of doing the root canal, what is the impact of doing the implant " she replied: " don't say you are not a dentist bla bla bla, you can think about it and let me know" I was being quiet for couple seconds, not even a minute, I was thinking about what to do. She suddenly stood up and walked away, said: " I don't have time for this, I need to see my next patient!" Wow, completely no empathy. Not even one second to think about what the patient want, what is the best for the patient and financial impact whatsoever. She is such a bad human being! A word to this business owner: if you don't believe the patient, and believe what the doctor lying to you, you will see more cases like this coming to damage your business! You need to find a good person, that lady is a bad person, be careful! I work so hard in this country to be success business woman, I have better education than her! For someone treat me like this? Not acceptable! I have free legal counsel from my job, seeking for legal advice now. With the time you guys wasted me, the racism and the unfairness treatment. I came for 2nd opinion , I have a root canal for years now and my primary doctor said to check it out as on x-ray it seems like there is a little grey area . So I'll summarise - he knocked on my tooth and asked if it's painful I said no , then he asked if it was bothering me lately - I said no then he tried digging with his tools and probably create some sort of a pain but sorry no pain at all so he said yes then it's a root canal .. The work that was done here was fine however the service is very bad, while on hold there is a beautiful message about service and exceeding expectations but when the person gets on the line they either want you to book your appointment or get off their line. I had questions due to a bad experience with billing my PPO insurance and they had zero patience nor did the person on the line show any empathy or concern. In other words they may do good work here but the staffs negative attitude and lack or service is stopping me from returning. With dental work billing between your dentist and endodontics office can quickly max out your insurance and if they do not work together with you, you can get stuck with no option but full payment without your insurance you are paying for working for your benefit. Very similar to the most recent reviews, it truly feels like a sales pitch. I came in per my dentist's referral to confirm I had no infection for a specific tooth. It was confirmed there was no infection but the endo thought there could be a crack on the tooth, which he confirmed he could not see. He explained I have three options- to extract the tooth (absolutely not), to do a root canal, or to leave it. The tooth was NOT bothering me. WHY on earth would he suggest as an option to extract a perfectly fine tooth? His recommendation was to do a root canal and perhaps they can locate the crack. But he explained with a root canal, the likelihood of the tooth cracking in the future increases. I told him I will leave alone. I was beyond infuriated when leaving the office, as there was no logic in his recommendation. Please beware. read more

I was recommended by Dr. Berna Sanayei for root canal on #2 tooth which was broken. I called and talked to Ms. Wendy (front desk). Appointment was set up on 11/3/2020. Dr. Radhika with Mona (hygienist) performed the procedure. From start to end they explained very clearly and made me very comfortable. There was no pain or discomfort during and after the root canal. In fact I kind of took little nap during the procedure. I would like to thank Ms. Wendy for being very courteous and professional. I have to start out with saying i am probably the most anxious person when it comes to dental care.... i called yesterday as a new patient with severe jaw pain and noticed a discoloration on my old root canal treated tooth... they got me in right away... Dr. Marshall Michaelian was so warm and welcoming, so detailed yet right to the point when explaining the procedure and my options. Not once did i feel rushed, not once did i feel like this was in any way an attempt to collect the most out of my out of pocket expense ( i have fantastic insurance, but if i didnt i wouldve gladly paid out of pocket just to be treated by this doctor) His entire staff was fantastic as well starting with Mari at the front desk who was so professional and so welcoming, then his dental assistant who i regretfully forgot her name but she was soooooooo great and super comforting. The entire procedure was so comfortable and not to mention quick. He saved my tooth and made it as painless as possible. I cant rave about this office enough.
