The convenience store is stocked with the usual gas station sundries and there's even a car wash. However, there's no way I'd ever let some gas station car wash with hard plastic bristles "beat" my car clean. All in all this is an ok gas station; albeit a little expensive. I rarely go there for gas, however, I go there for the fried chicken and meat pies. This is New Orleans, after all, and our gas stations often carry better food than the average restaurant elsewhere, so why wouldn't you try it? My favorite is to pick up food before a Saints game to take to friends and enjoy all afternoon. The seasoning on the chicken is amazing, it's generally pretty fresh, and if you're a strips person and want some dipping sauce, they've got you covered for that, too. Even after Hurricane Ida, last year, they worked hard to get things straightened up enough and cleaned out quickly to keep the neighborhood fed and on its feet. Love that can-do attitude!

However it seemed enough for the locals to get gas without too long of a line. The memory in question was about a catfish poboy wherein I ordered it and the cashier washed her hands, dredged a fresh catfish filet through an egg wash and cornmeal, prepped the roll, and voila! It was heavenly. 12+ years later, the menu only said "fish" poboy sandwich. If you're a catfish purist like myself, that's a red flag, so I went with the fried chicken. My wife ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich despite the geographical incongruity. Both were outstanding, and I can't recommend the kitchen enough.

I have generally had positive…read moreexperiences, but I am very concerned about the food handling practices at the outdoor food court. Recently, I ordered a pizza and a strawberry-banana smoothie. While waiting, I observed an employee preparing food, making smoothies, handling cash transactions, and then returning to food preparation while wearing the same pair of gloves throughout the process. Because I had noticed this behavior on previous visits, I decided to ask about it. I asked whether the gloves were intended to protect customers from germs or protect the employee. The employee responded, "We have a lot of gloves. I just didn't have a chance to change them." That response was concerning. Cash is handled by countless people and can carry dirt, bacteria, and other contaminants. Seeing the same gloves used for food preparation and cash handling defeats the purpose of wearing gloves in the first place. What concerns me most is that this did not appear to be a one-time oversight. I have observed similar practices on multiple visits, which suggests it may be a routine habit rather than an isolated incident. Costco may have food safety policies in place, but policies are only effective when they are consistently followed. Based on what I have repeatedly observed, I am no longer comfortable purchasing food from this location's outdoor food court. I hope management reviews food handling procedures and ensures that proper glove-changing and sanitation practices are consistently followed to protect customers.
