I've eaten at Markoh's many times as well as the sister restaurant Lucia's and I always enjoyed the meal and service. This time I was very disappointed by the service and length of time it took to get our food. it was pretty clear that our waiter was also working tables at Lucia's and that Lucia's was very busy. No excuses were made for the wait not did anyone offer to buy a drink or dessert. We've eaten at both establishments and had a good experience in the past at both places. Tonight it took over 3 hour for six people to receive their meals from start to finish... way too long for a restaurant that was not that busy. Many tables around us received their entire meal while we waited for the appetizers and salads. I'm disappointed with the service and the inability to balance the kitchen between the two establishments. I'm sorry to say, we are unlikely to return to Markoh's and may or may not go back to Lucia's... despite having gift certificates for the restaurant. read more

Slow service and a lack of focus on food quality... When we sat we were only the second table in the place. Took 30 minutes to get out first cocktails. 20 minutes later we ordered a second cocktail... That took 25 minutes to arrive. Mind you - we are sitting 2 feet from the bar! Elapsed time from ordering to actually getting our meal was 75 minutes. I got the special- surf and turf with filet and pulled lobster in light dressing with tarragon. My beef was barely warm and like eating a shoe. My wife got polenta breaded grouper over mashed potatoes with a red pepper purée. The potatoes were cold. Grouper was terrific. As it took so long to get our food I didn't let them take it back. Will not return. Love Markhos!!! Food is amazing! The menu is great because you can get a cheap burger or gourmet sandwich or u can step it up and get an upscale entree. lunch recently....same owner as lucia's down the street....very nice and neat smallish spot, main room with several tables, a bar and a tv, attractive decorations and another larger room.....service was pleasant, congenial and kept our water glasses full, drinks were good, we had the stuffed peppers as an app and they were excellent, wife had the grilled veg sandwich and it was outstanding and big and the cheesy fries with it were excellent, green monster burger was good (could have been a little more flavorful) but nice with avocado and built in spinach, pasta salad was excellent.....drinks were a bit pricy...great spot in little old down town ayer......check it out!!! read more

This place was horrible! The staff was walking around with nothing in their hands. I don't know who was the cook on the days that were previously reviewed as great, they need to re-hire them! As for me I will never go back. And yes, it is over-priced. The only good thing is that we went on Wednesday burger night so the burgers were $5 bucks. Wendy's serves a better burger! I've never been here before. I'll never come back. I sat and waited an hour before I was even asked if I wanted a drink. Then once I ordered I waited OVER an hour for my food. Might I add, my whole party had gotten their dessert before I got my food. First off, I ordered the firecracker shrimp to start. Came out two minutes before my main and actually came with more pieces of lettuce than shrimp. Disappointing. I had high expectations of the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese after trying my friends regular Mac and cheese. Mine wasn't half the size of her and was just filled with chicken. Barely any Mac and cheese. The service was so slow and unreal. They had two people working an over 50 person party and were no where to be found all night. My husband and I like to come here for dinner during the week. The space is smaller with less than 10 tables in addition to seating at the bar. They do not take reservations, but I have had them mention they would hold us a table when we called in advance. The herbed butter and bread is so, so good - I think I'm addicted! Service here is always very nice and they let you take your time through your meal. Specials always sound so tempting, but we typically stick with our "usuals". You can also order anything from the Lucia's Tavola menu since the restaurants are connected in the back and they are owned by the same people. read more

This is my first yelp review but I couldn't help but share how great our dinner was. Tonight was my fiancée and my first time here at Markoh's and we will definitely be back! Everything from the server immediately greeting us with a bottle of sparkling water, my blue Hawaii margarita, the bread with garlic butter, corn chowder, my fiancées crab and avocado appetizer to our main entrées; steak tips with a peppercorn sauce for me and his seafood Alfredo, everything was delicious. Our sever, Matt ( I'm pretty sure that was his name) was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. He gave great recommendations for our first time and was always quick to get us what we needed. The atmosphere was very nice and cozy with comfy chairs and candles on all the tables. We finished with an amaretto creme brûlée and it was to die for! We left extremely happy, even if that tab was 100$ but for all the food and drinks we got it was completely reasonable for our once in a while date night! Thanks again Markoh's! read more

This was our first time at Markhos on Main. We tried to have dinner at Lucias Tavola the sister restaurant but they were booked for the night with reservations. The hostess recommended trying the sister restaurant only a few doors away and WOW! We were not disappointed. The sirloin au poivre was amazing - the best we have had in a very long time. We will definitely be back. It is a little on the pricier side but we don't mind paying a little extra for food that is of that quality! Thanks! read more

For 2 degrees above a bar atmosphere it was far over priced and the service was terrible. The main entrees are mid to high 20s and the wait staff should go to Chili's for training. I had a haddock filet with three tiny scallops covered with a cow hide layer of cheese. My wife had smoked chicken with pasta. We both had two drinks and it was a $100 night. Again, it's a bar!!! The atmosphere, service don't merit the food price. And I truly feel bad because I'm all about Main Street America. read more

We had our rehearsal dinner here a few days before Christmas and it was perfect. The room looked great, tasteful decorations to get into the holiday spirit and create a warm and cozy effect. The food was delicious, highly recommend the stuffed peppers. They melt in your mouth and once you have one you can't stop! Diana helped us plan the rehearsal dinner and both she and the staff were fantastic. They worked with us to create a menu that worked for us and also made sure all of our guests were taken care of all night. Can't say enough about Markoh's. My husband and I visited Markoh's last Saturday night because their sister restaurant, Lucia's Tavola, had a long wait. We were told that we could order off of Lucia's menu for Markoh's, which is what we did. We paced our order and waited...and waited...and waited. The waitress was very gracious, brought us more bread and assured us that our meals would be out soon. Finally she told us there had been a mistake in the kitchen and our order had been misplaced. She apologized profusely and eventually brought our meals. The food was delicious (especially the wild mushroom ravioli). We finished our entrees and shared a dessert. At the end of the meal the waitress apologized again and told us that our entire meal would be "on the house" (wine, beer, entrees and dessert). We were extremely impressed with the way they handled the situation. Some restaurants would have done nothing, some would have given us a free dessert, but Markoh's set themselves apart and did the right thing. Their customer service, along with the fact that the food was fantastic, will make this our new favorite restaurant. read more

Came off the yelp review but where to begin. I can understand if they were short staffed, but there were 3 servers for 7 tables. It took 10 minutes for us to be seated and we placed orders immediately. 20 minutes later we noticed that everybody had a bread basket but us. I asked her for a bread basket and ten minutes later we received cold bread. Two more people came in and they were seated at a dirty table. After another 10 minutes they got up and decided to leave. If you been doing the math we're now at 40 minutes and no sign of our food. I asked the waitress she said that it was coming right out 10 minutes later our food arrived after after almost an hour with wait, and it was cold. By this time we are so hungry we ate it anyway . We were told the manager was going to come out to us. 15 minutes later she finally appeared but then went to a different table change the thermostat and disappeared again. 10 minutes later we asked the waitress and she said the manager went to the wrong table. She never did come out to see us, but at least the didnt charge The food would have been tasty if it was warm. most remarkably bad service I've ever received I believe in my entire life. I frequent both Markohs on Main and Lucia's Tavola and there food is amazing at both. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable about what they are serving. I love the relaxed atmosphere they have at Markohs and enjoy that I can also order from Lucia's menu while there. The Filet with lobster is my favorite but the Seafood Alfredo is a close second. Both dishes are the best I have ever had. I made the trek to there Brookline restaurant on several occasions and was thrilled that they opened one so close. My husband I went to Markoh's last night. The staff were very friendly. The manager's personality is infectious. We will be going back! They were apologetic as they were not set up for full dinner service. The food was cooked to order and well presented. Not the place to go if you are in a rush. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. A welcome addition to the downtown Ayer neighborhood. A bit pricey for the entrees - worth it. They plan to add an out door courtyard area for the restaurant. Finally got a chance to try this restaurant out. The interior was nicely decorated, service was very friendly, and the food was delicious! The food is priced on the higher side compared to the competition in the town, but the quality of food is way better than most anything you'll find in Ayer, too. The restaurant was almost empty on Halloween, our pick of tables. Dinner with friends. Our waitress was attentive, personable and friendly. She dealt perfectly with my strange sense of humor. We sat on the bar side. Lighting, seating, spacing very comfortable, it is a nice room. We had the maple stuffed mushrooms and a pork special appetizers. I really liked the mushrooms, one said they could have been cooked more. The pork was very nice. Two had the haddock and scallop special entree with mozzarella. They liked it, was cooked perfectly perhaps a tad too much cheese but fine. One had the Steak Courvoisier Au Poivre. She enjoyed it, said the peppercorn/courvoisier sauce was very peppery. I had the Filet Oscar, asked for medium rare medium. It was an excellent cut , cooked like they knew exactly what i wanted. Our friendly waitress said they were out of crab and asked about substituting lobster, no complaints from me. My steak, sauces and bacon/cheddar grits were . Clean plate club. I was very pleased with the room, decor, draft beer selection. The menu is varied and interesting. Good specials. My meal was excellent and my companions really enjoyed theirs. We had an outstanding, supportive waitress. I thank her for the gift she gave me in response to a joke. Overall a very positive experience There are restaurants of similar cost in adjacent towns. We've come back several times since my first review. I really wanted to love Markoh's. But each time has been a step down from the previous time. This last visit, we found the servive to be excruciatingly slow. We waited for our drinks for 20 min after we ordered them. There were only two other tables seated. Reordering drinks took just as long. We ordered the stuffed peppadews as an appetizer. What a mess! None of them were stuffed--the cheese had all run out and was dark brown/nearly burned and congealed in a pile in the center of the bowl. The salad came without dressing and it was a long wait to get a side of dressing. Previous visits, we've had cold fish and cold vegetables. To be fair, though, we've also had some perfectly done dishes and beautifully plated dinners. The chef's creations are great. They just need to step up the service. read more

This will be a very difficult review for me to write, however, I feel that I must share this experience with you. It was such a travesty of astronomical proportions. We made reservations for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening with a request to sit in the bar area. We arrived at the appointed time and were seated promptly as the restaurant was quite empty at this hour. Within a matter of 30 minutes the bar was full of mostly men from the local Lions Club who were very loud and very obnoxious. One of the men leaned over to say that we have to forgive them for they are still very upset by the election! Really? Get over it already, I told the our wonderful waitress Karen that I do not enjoy hearing them drop the F Bomb every other word. Another gentleman assured us that they would be out of the bar area in about 15 minutes. That would be 14 minutes too long. They were finally ushered into the other room for their dinner. We proceeded to relax and enjoy our dining experience. We paid our tab and were on our way out when we ran into some old friends who were just arriving. We chatted a few minutes at the entrance when one of the Lions came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder to say that "we are trying to have a meeting here and need you to keep it down". We ALL thought that he must be joking after all that we just gone through but he was NOT. We were shocked to say the least that a member of a club that is supposed to spread good will could be so obviously misguided. We were walking out of the restaurant when my guest could not leave without comment and went back inside to speak to someone about this. Katie, the wonderful barmaid was very sympathetic and beside herself at what we had experienced. We will never go back on a Thursday "Lions Night". Very disappointed.....went there last Saturday. Tried to book a call ahead table but there was no answer, phone message went back to New Years! So, we went along to the restaurant and were told a table was available. Then after some time, we were told no, people had called ahead and had the tables. . When I told them we had tried to call I was told that " oh, we were probably too busy to pick the phone up when you called....you have to keep trying ". We did not get a table without an hour wait so ate at the bar. We wanted a romantic evening and it did not work out. Then with Valentine's Day coming up, hubby called yesterday regarding take out for Valentines Day. We were told just to call and it would be available. Guess what? Called tonight and told "no, we are not offering it" . We had based our evening around being told it was available and had to scramble to get dinner on the table. This restaurant potentially has the means to do really well......however they need to consider how they are treating their customers and the image they project which is pretty unprofessional. It's a shame, because the food and ambience is good if you can get past the hassle! read more

I used to love this place, we went a couple months ago with some friend (party of 7) and it was slow, So we gave it another chance, had a gift card, nothing to loose right?........Ehhhh! Aweful.....15min to get a drink, 50+ min for a burger and a salad ????? Markieth WTF???? It took so long, I forgot what I ordered...... We ordered a salad w/ chicken to bring home..... waitress left the box w/ the bill......when we checked the box......3-4oz of spring mix forgot the chicken and charged us 7$......Shame on you (and how the might have fallen !!!!! My 2nd drink never came.....until the waitress asked if needed anything.....I said yeah the drink I asked for 20 min ago........you might think it was busy???? NOPE 4@the bar......3 tables maybe 8 people......and Markeith (the Chef/Owner sitting w/ guest at an adjacent table). Sorry wont be back......Anyone want to buy our other Gift Card?????
