As an overthinker, I'd been putting off getting my first tattoo for about, oh, five years, since I didn't know what the experience would be like and couldn't seem to find a person that made me feel confident. Lucky for me, I ran into Ron Rash, and I liked him so much that I requested an appointment five minutes later. Although the artists get a lot of the attention, I want to give a big shout-out to the person who runs the front desk. She represents the face of the business by being highly professional, warm, and organized. As a former front-desk person, I know how hard that work is and appreciate how much she put me at ease. So, let me start with this! Very nice Establishment! Not at all disappointed! They offer drinks, and snacks "which you do not have to pay for" But the one thing I will say.... Super expensive! More than it should be! I want to say money is a factor because the deposit shouldn't be that much!!! Isn't everything already high enough! NOT A DEPOSIT, for some people this can be a deal breaker ! Originally I was very excited to get work done. Requested a consultation- Which originally was only going to take less than a month; But after a week I was notified the original time I wanted was now not available and the closest they had was two months out. I waited the two months and the artist was amazingly kind and helpful on correcting me of the misgivings I had on what the design I was looking for was actually called and in general was just a very pleasant experience. You could tell they had a passion for their job. But they wanted reference pictures and a bit more detail and were going to talk about the studio to different artists and they may reference me to one of them, since the subject matter wasn't in their expertise and I didn't have a full idea of what I wanted in detail. So through E-mail I sent art styles I enjoyed, references and another idea for the piece I had that may of been easier. Fast forward nearly a week and I received an email wishing me luck of getting the piece done and that they would not be able to do it. No references inwards, no further discussion on it. Just kind of a disheartening good luck finding someone, after several months of waiting. Others may have a bit of a better experience, but it was just kind of a let down to be dismissed kind of instantly. read more

Got it done! Yes it hurt lol but powered through with my podcast and blues type music playing. Callista is great, easy to talk with and got it done under two hours but didn't rush. First she showed me two different sizes of the tattoo she had done (from what I chose during our consult) to choose from, I chose the smaller version, then we talked about placement and then checked in a big mirror if I liked what I saw then go time! They were busy with several customers but I had a place towards the back which was nice. A big pillow for my head and a table for my things and she started. I was pretty prepared and though it hurt in some areas more then others it was doable! When she rubbed cooling witch hazel and bactine over areas she'd completed it felt so good! I took a couple Tylenol beforehand and lots of water the day before and today which I think helped the experience go a bit easier. Afterwards a large clear bandage goes on and aftercare gone over with a goodie bag of cream and wash to apply in a couple days. I recommend this studio if you're in the market for a tattoo and am happy with my plumeria flowers to honor my kids being born in Hawaii and lived there 16 years so my tattoo has meaning. I came here on Veterans Day for a free tattoo-- my first tattoo! This was such a fun experience. Marked Studios opened at 8am & my friends and I were there at 5:30am (Group of 7 + my two babies). Before the doors opened, they gave out shop sweaters and alcohol shots. They pumped everyone up & showed that they were proud to be serving veterans with free tattoos. By the time the doors opened, my friends and I were at the door to give our name and show proof of veteran status and we picked flash tattoo by 9am (I was #46 in line). We were told that we would get a call when they were ready. Around 12:30pm, they were ready so I went with my party and kids. My friends watched my boys after their tattoos so I could get mine after. Marked Studios had the best service!! They were so kind to my boys and myself. They offered water, snacks, great service, amazing tattoo work, etc. my artist was JP and he was probably born a badass! read more

I will never go anywhere else! First of all the shop is BEAUTIFUL and very professional. Isabel at the front was so friendly and welcoming. It's always a good sign when the front staff are friendly. I just had a session with Taylor Inscore and I am happy beyond words with my experience. We did a consultation and she answered all my questions about what I wanted and was able to get me in the following weekend! She took what I wanted and redrew it even better than what I originally had. She even added little hearts into my design (I got birth flowers with my kids names on the stems), which was such a beautiful touch that I never even thought of. Taylor is so friendly and not once did I feel uncomfortable. She answered any questions I had and quickly fixed an error on one of the names (a common thing that happens a lot with one of my kiddos names). I got the tattoo on my ribs and was nervous since I heard it could be a painful spot, but with Taylor it didn't bother me at all! Once she was done I was in complete awe. Her lines are PERFECT. I honestly can't stop staring at it. It's so elegant and the lines are stunning. Her work is flawless. This experience was so amazing that I am already planning what I want next . I have two tattoos done at Marked. My first was amazing and I would give Gaia 5 stars any day of the week. However, my second visit....terrible. The tattoo I was looking to get was something very special and meaningful to me. I wanted a memorial to my mom who passed away due to Covid. She passed In the early days of Covid when hospitals were on lock down and families couldn't be by their loved ones side when they passed. For the tattoo I wanted to use a voice pattern of my mom saying I love you and this was to be the focal point of the tattoo along with roses, as my mom loved her roses outside of her home, that my dad now diligently cares for now that mom is gone. I know I threw a lot of ideas at the artist, JP, but he's supposed to be a professional artist...right? I gave him lots of adjectives about my mom to help guide him in his design. Words like elegant, loving, compassionate, warm, understanding. So, three months go by and I come to my appointment extremely excited. The design missed the marked not by just a little, but by a god damned mile! The voice pattern wasn't even the focal point. Ok, so I politely, because I hate confrontation and hurting people's feelings, asked JP how we can steer the design towards a more fitting memorial for my mom. We come up with something and I again have to wait three more months for the next appointment. So, here we are at the next appointment. He shows me the design and for the most part it was fine. However, I had a very specific phrase I wanted, and we had discussed previously, and he hadn't even designed that into the tattoo. WTF MATE! Ok, fine. He goes in the back and takes 30 minutes to design four words and get the stencil prepared. We are now an hour into a four hour session and I'm not even in the back in the chair yet. Deep breath. Ok, into the back I go. He doesn't show me the stencil before he slaps it on me. I look down and notice the phrase I wanted seems a little short. HE GOT THE PHRASE WRONG!!!!!!! At this point honestly, I thought about walking out. Dude is obviously not heard a word I said about what I want in the tattoo. But, alas, I stayed put. Bad idea on my part. He wipes the stencil off my arm and goes back to the drawing board....AGAIN! Ok, finally he gets things squared away, gets the stencil on me again. Doesn't ask if I like the placement, didn't show me the stencil before he put it to make sure all was kosher. Luckily, it was fine. He proceeds to get to work. He seems like a cordial enough guy. We discuss losing a parent, of which he had (and the main reason I thought he would knock my tattoo outta the park). Kindred spirits and all that. He spent a good majority of the three hours in the chair doing line work. I'll give him credit, there are a lot of lines in the design. When we got the color and shading he took I would guesstimate, 30-40 minutes tops for this. He finished up and at face value it looks decent. He hastily gives me my aftercare bag and sends me on my way. I tip the dude a $100 because I felt bad asking him to redesign the tattoo. I want my damn tip back. I get home and really begin examining the tattoo. The color is flat, there is no life in the damn thing. It's heavy and dark (which yes, I know at first tatts are dark until they're healed). But, it's terrible. The rose, which I had asked for a realistic looking rose, was barely passable at best in realism, and the color and shading were awful, and don't even get me started on the leaves. There were even lines on the rose that aren't finished. I'm so fucking mad and disappointed. I waited 6 months and paid $800 ($900if you count the tip) for this atrocity. I am now working with another artist at a different shop to get it fixed. I've only had the tattoo 5 days at the writing of this review. I am including the cringe worthy pictures so y'all know what you're likely to get if you see JP at Marked Studios. Maybe he was pissed at me because I didn't like his first design and he had to redo it, or asked him to fix the ducking wording of the phrase I wanted. I don't know, but my heart is broken at the horrendous art that is supposed to be in memory of my mom that I now have adorning my arm. read more

This was my first tattoo personally and I have to say that after going to several places in town, Marked Studios will be the only place I'll go in Reno for my future tattoos. Fortunately through a friend I was able to discover Mackenzie at Marked. She had done some incredible artwork on some other people I knew. I took a trip down to Marked Studios to see what they could do and got scheduled for Mackenzie and gave her an idea of what I wanted. The appointment was set and was about 1.5 months out. At first this bothered me but I then realized that the wait was the best thing you can have before putting a permanent piece of artwork on your body. The time gave me a chance to make sure this was exactly what I wanted to do. Also, the fact that someone is that popular and booked out that far is always a good sign. When the time for my appointment came I went down and signed the paperwork and I was off and running. Mackenzie was awesome. There was no rush as she had given my appointment enough time to get done. She addressed my concerns regarding size, pain levels and other items. When it came time to perform the tattoo she was great. One thing I really like about Marked Studios is how clean and professional the facility is and the fact that they give you a 'take-home' kit when you're done. They're also using proper bandages and not just sticking cellophane on your tattoo. Tattoos are something that you generally pay for the quality. Is Marked Studios the cheapest place in town? My friend Jennifer Stauffer recommended this place for me. I was looking to get two lilies tattooed on my side, because the guy who did my first tattoo moved, I needed a new place. I did some research and liked what I saw about this tattoo place, and having the recommendation helped. I used their website to submit my ideas and Mark promptly emailed back. We set up a consult date, while I wasn't a huge fan of paying for the consult, it was nice to talk to Mark and communicate exactly what I wanted. Once we were in agreement, we set a date for the tattoo to happen. I came in after work one day and the shop was relatively quiet. It was a nice calm atmosphere. I like how they have the tattoo area separate from the front, so just in case you're getting a tattoo in a spot where you're not comfortable showing, you don't have to feel self conscious of passerby looking in on you. Mark made the process super fun and easy. He offered a break about halfway through when I needed to use the restroom. The whole tattoo took about 3 hours to complete. He did an amazing job. The overall price for the tattoo was far more expensive that I'd like to have paid for the tattoo. I don't see how labor and resources equaled $500, but then again I'm not in the business. I definitely paid for quality though. I love my lilies and get compliments on them all the time. If I had an inexperienced tattoo artist, I can see how the beautiful fade job Mark did would have bled and not given me the final product I was looking for. When I need another really detailed quality piece, I will come back to Marked studios. They do amazing work. but for my simple guys, I will take my business elsewhere because some tattoos I don't believe are $100 shop minimum pricing. read more

Amazing! Love the shop and Gaia is fantastic!! It was 2 weeks from the time of my consult until the day of my tattoo and I did everything I was supposed to do in between. I put moisturizer, coconut oil or body butter on my arm 4-5 times a day to condition my skin and starting 2 days before the appointment I was extra vigilant about keeping hydrated and drinking lots of water. I had a hearty meal on appointment day. I was really nervous about the pain, not sure why since this was not my first tattoo, but it is a large piece and that was scary to me. Turns out, I didn't even flinch the whole time! I was in the shop for a total of 2 hours, an hour and a half of actual needle time. The shop is so clean and I love the privacy.
