Battle Born is the best! I've been going to the owner, Archie, for a number of years and he is amazing! The parlor is clean, and large with a nice waiting area and a zen entrance with beautiful Koi. It has amazing artwork on the walls and a great vibe. Archie specializes in Traditional Japanese and he also does incredibly lifelike animal realism tattoos from portraits. He has a varied and talented array of artists, so you will be able to find someone who specializes in the body art you want. They take appointments and walk-ins, but no credit cards. Cash app, Venmo, Zelle or cash. They do have an onsite ATM for convenience. There is a Friday the 13th first come, first served flash event. I cannot say enough good things about Battle Born. The shop is astoundingly clean, the artists are friendly and accepting of everyone. My daughter is autistic but had been wanting a tattoo for forever. Alexx was so patient and kind, as well as the others. When my daughter got lightheaded, another artist gave up his candy for her. Alexx gave her all the time she needed to get back into the tattoo. It was honestly such a great experience. In May of 2021 I went in to get a flower for my mother while also getting my sleeve on my right arm chipped away. In that same month I got a total of six tattoos and one of those appointments my wife came in to get a matching peach tattoo with me on our neck. I ignored the signs initially when the flower got infected and apparently so did the artist but all six of my tattoos and my wife's tattoo got infected. One of the artists completely ignored me and never messaged me and the other one only acknowledged me after I had contacted the owner. Then the owner stopped messaging me. I used to work here and I spent countless hours of my own time and money in this shop. I feel completely betrayed and let down. At first I went to the ER to get some antibiotics and then I felt that they weren't working so I went back and they stopped the antibiotics and gave me steroids. I just kept getting sicker. I got an infection in my nasals and I was having almost five nose bleeds a day, then my lymph nodes got so infected and inflamed that they were touching the back of my tongue making it almost impossible to eat or drink and even water would burn, so I initially went back to the ER for dehydration. I had several tests done, my veins flushed and I was just put through so much pain trying to figure out what the hell happened. I was out of work for almost a month in so much pain. The tattoos on my thumbs hurt so bad I could not even grip a doorknob. The scab on the jelly fish felt like it was to the bone and was the most painful. At the time I had three jobs and I lost my main job that I had my major medical with because they could not afford to be short-staffed which is completely understandable, but now I owe over $6,000 in medical bills because of this. I feel that this was just bad business and bad communication and I will never step foot into Battle Born or get tattooed by any of the individuals that did this, even if they decide to work elsewhere. read more

We had planned a trip to Reno as a fun get away and we wanted to get tattooed while we were out here. After communicating via phone calls and emails we booked an appointment for Thursday to have three tattoos done. Candace absolutely killed all three of our tattoos. Awful experience here. I can't review their actual artwork, but their customer service was awful. I emailed and called multiple times asking questions and scheduling appointments. I arrived and was informed they do not give tattoos to minors in visible places (not a law, just a shop rule). It would have been nice if the receptionist informed me of this in one of my many emails and calls. The artist was completely apathetic and wouldn't even give us places in Reno that would give such tattoos. Very disappointing. Update: I couldn't even find another shop to tattoo me because it is a Nevada state law that you must have your birth certificate to get tattooed as a minor. Apparently, the law doesn't apply at Battle Born. Awful. read more

I was very impressed with this shop and my artist, Jared Blue. My dad and I wanted to get a tattoo for my 23rd birthday last year. I had heard wonderful things about Jared and his style was perfect for what we were looking at getting. My dad and I wanted a compass with mountains in the background and some trees since we are frequent hikers. We booked an appointment about a month out (the soonest we could get in that fit with both of our work schedules) & I e-mailed Jared a few pictures we picked out for our hiking theme. We showed up for our appointment and Jared was right on schedule. The drawing he provided was better than I was expecting. It was perfect. This was my 3rd tattoo and my dad's second. He was very patient with us on our indecisiveness regarding the location we wanted. We chose to go with our forearm. You can tell Jared is a focussed artist. Best Tattoo shop in Reno, hands down. Battle Born is at the very south end of Wells Avenue, towards the bottom of Midtown, which is a very up-and-coming district in Reno. The shop is spotlessly clean and really well organized, the murals are pretty cool too. Ryan was recommended to me by a friend who had all her work done by him, and he's about as good as it gets. I had pretty specific ideas for my half sleeve, and he designed exactly what I wanted, and even provided suggestions for improvement I ended up going with. Jared did one of my friends on the same day and she absolutely loved it. I haven't worked with Jay Dee or Archie but both introduced themselves to me hung around a bit while I had work done and were very friendly. My cousin and I were in Reno for the night and decided to get tattoos, we walked into Battle Born and Ryan greeted us. We told him what we wanted and asked for a quote. We wanted 3x3 black and grey anchor tattoos, Ryan quoted us at $60, which I thought was a good price. He then went and drew up the sketch, we both really liked it. Ryan was super professional and the shop was clean. He tatto'd my cousin first and then tatto'd me. He fully broke down his station and sterilized everything between the tattoings. He was also very fast, which was good for me because I have a low pain threshold. Ryan was a nice guy and he was very professional. He also gave us recommendations for places to eat and drink in Reno. He took the time to explain aftercare to us and answered any questions we had. He also let us know that they offer free touch-ups, which my previous tattoo shop did not offer. I actually like this shop a lot. They're really professional & considerate. I remember I went there & asked for my family crest on the side of my neck. The artist strongly discouraged me from this because I was so young & I didn't have any other noticeable tattoos. We then compromised on a location to put it & he got to work on it. He also gave me a discount because I was still & quiet (: I'll most definitely get another one here if I'm ever in the area. My friend and I got our first tattoos done here last year around February by Candace. I found her on Instagram and all her work looks great. So we wanted her to do our matching tattoos. When we walked in and met her, my friend and I noticed something was off about her but weren't sure so we continued with the tattoos. She was very kind and nice throughout the tattoo, no problem there. My friend got a sun that was a bit messed up on the lines but nothing terrible. I, on the other hand, was supposed to receive a moon but ended up with something that looked like a cookie. The circle was messed up and the shading looked very different from what she showed me. I was too excited by my first tattoo that I just took a quick glance and said thanks. On our way out, we examined our tattoos in the car and I quickly noticed mine did not look like a moon. While examining, we smelled marijuana and looked to our left and there was Candace smoking in her car. So going back to when we met her, we realized she wasn't sober when tattooing us. That made me furious because I believe if she was sober, I would have received a moon and not a cookie. I had to walk around months with a cookie on my ankle. The tattoo was so bad that when people would ask what it was and I would respond with a moon and they would laugh and say "that looks like a cookie." Luckily, months later I finally got the ugly cookie covered up. In general, Candace's work on Instagram is great and all but she doesn't always produce that kind of work. She should have been sober while tattooing us, especially if she knew that it was our first tattoos. I personally wouldn't be high at my job knowing my work will be on someone's body for the rest of their life. Save your money and pick another tattoo artist. With what I spent here and on the coverup, I could have received one very nice first tattoo somewhere else. read more
