Over 3 1/2 years ago, I went to Dr. Weingarden for advice on sensitive gums. I had had veneers on my two front teeth for a few years, and he thought that they may be ill-fitting, causing my gums to hurt. Not only did he recommend I get new veneers, he thought that the best path was to get gum-reshaping surgery first. Taking his professional opinion into account, I did what he suggested. I first had to get my veneers temporarily replaced so that there would be the correct amount of room to perform the gum surgery. That was a horrible experience in and of itself, but that had nothing to do with Dr. Weingarden or his office. What happened after the gum surgery however, was and still is the most unprofessionally handled situation I've ever experienced. I had the gum surgery, and was expected to return within 3 days for a check up. I was told that my gums would be on their way to healing by that point. 3 days after the surgery, they looked like I had just walked out of the office after them being cut. They were actively bleeding and still incredibly sore. At this point, Dr. Weingarden said that he wasn't used to seeing this, and placed me on antibiotics just in case there was some sort of infection. I won't take you through the misery of each of my appointments over the next two months. After seeing him week after week with no improvement, Dr. Weingarden at one point suggested that I must be scratching my gums during my sleep. 1) I clip my fingernails very short, so they weren't any sort of gum weaponry. 2) Before this appointment, one of his hygienist stated that she thought there was originally too much gum taken and that's why I wasn't healing correctly. 3) Are you kidding me?? SCRATCHING MY GUMS AT NIGHT?! After this appointment, he suggested that I visit one of the best periodontist in Pittsburgh, Dr. Silberg. I made an appointment immediately, wanting my pain and discomfort to come to an end. What I didn't know before walking in was that Dr. Weingarden was good buddies with Dr. Silberg, and got him up to speed on my situation. I don't know how that conversation went, but somewhere in there had to have been some sort of "you have to have my back on this" statement. Dr. Silberg was not only rude and dismissive, he was actually aggressive and hostile. Now I understand that this was not in and of itself Dr. Weingarden's fault. I do however believe that Dr. Weingarden knew he was in the wrong and called his good ole pal to make sure that I had a second opinion that agreed with his. As I mentioned, this was over 3 1/2 years ago. My gums still bleed every time I brush them, even after getting new veneers that cost $3,500 to furnish. I'm still in pain any time the wind hits my face or I'm too close to an air conditioner. I can't ride with the windows down and it's not very comfortable to even kiss my significant other. My every day quality of life is lessened because of this, and I think unfortunately always will be. For that, I have Dr. Weingarden to thank. I wouldn't return to this man for a good flossing. I'm sure he can clean your teeth, but don't let him or his partner come near you with a surgical device. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE DON'T SCRATCH YOUR GUMS IN YOUR SLEEP!!! read more

I'm going to echo the previous post - I went to Dr. Weingarden recently. I was never so upset with any periodontist in the past. His demeanor was smug, he gave me some false information, and overall he was very condescending towards me during the "evaluation". That's how I felt. First and foremost, kudos to the entire staff for their pleasant, caring assistance from initial consultation to completion of surgery! And, now... My journey through a gum graft done by Dr. Weingarden Aug. 28, 2018. (I INTENDED to write this five months ago but, I recovered so quickly from the procedure that I was able to get back to the business of having fun and we all know how time flies when you're having fun!) I know NONE of you can relate to this but, ANY dental procedure beyond a teeth cleaning always results in my heart racing, indents in the dental chair arms from my anxious vice like grip and a need for frequent reminders to breathe. Although the gum graft procedure elicited my typical reaction, I'm happy to say it was totally unfounded. The much dreaded shot to numb my gums surprisingly amounted to nothing more than a minimal quick prick administered by smiling Katie, assisting tech... SO not worth the lost sleep the night before in anticipation of "THE shot"! The novocain plus two ibuprofin I was given before the procedure kept me pain free during and after the gum graft. Dr. Weingarden kept my mind occupied while he worked by talking to me throughout the surgery (my only complaint... humorous comments should not be made when the patient's mouth is filled with hands and equipment making it next to impossible to laugh!) No other pain meds were needed after the novocain wore off as I only had slight discomfort. Dr. Weingarden called me later that day to see how I was doing and told me to contact the office with any questions or concerns. I had a few follow ups over a six week time span to remove stitches and check on my healing progress. At each follow up visit, I first met with Krisha (a FABULOUS personable, thorough, knowledgeable tech assistant) who covered oral health tips and answered many of my questions before I was seen by Dr. Weingarden. The benefit of writing a belated review, I can fully attest to the fact the graft was a complete success, smooth process start to finish with no complications. My recommendations for which I took off one star: 1) the exact bottle of anti bacterial mouth wash the office sells for $85 a bottle can be purchased on line directly from the company for $25. 2) The assisting surgery tech should VERBALLY go over important post surgery instructions rather than just giving a handout after surgery. Admittedly, I take responsibility for not reading instructions for a couple days... AFTER I had starting using a straw which turned out was listed as a BIG no no because the suction can undo the stitches. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Weingarden and would definitely go to him if I had (heaven forbid!) any other need for periodontal surgery. A smiling and satisfied patient, Susie A. read more
