My 18 year old daughter had her wisdom teeth pulled today. I could not be with her for this, as I had to work. The office staff and doctors were simply amazing. She raved about her experience she had with all the staff members. She even had to make a difficult decision on her own about whether to proceed or not due to a root being close to the tooth. I had the most positive experience with my extraction. The customer service is stellar. Dr. Cox was very personable and professional. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Cox is an amazing oral surgeon. I went in with a gum infection, gum boil and a badly cracked tooth. With a referral from my dentist, I randomly called another oral surgeon and was told the wait time would be six weeks. There was no way I could wait that long. I called Dr. Cox's office and they got me in within 2 days because of a cancellation. That worked for me! Leah was his assistant and was so sweet and calming. It took awhile for her to take care of the details but once that was done full speed ahead. Dr. Cox was very nice and caring. I just had a local because I didn't think it was necessary to be put under. I definitely made the right choice. Dr. Cox was very gentle as he gave me a few shots in the gum. I was a little worried because of the infection and the gum boil. Honestly, it was a piece of cake. He warned me the shot in the pallet would be more intense but the pain would last just for a few seconds. It wasn't fun but he was right, the pain was very brief. After waiting awhile he came in to pull the tooth. I don't think it was but one minute and the tooth was out. Totally pain free. I was amazed at how fast he got it out. I had minimal bleeding, zero swelling and zero pain. Even on day 2, no swelling and no pain. Now, I'm not saying everyone will do as well as I did but I am over the moon with the results. Had complcations with extractions, and was sent over to see Dr. Cox. When he was unable to do the extractions due to the high level of pain and anxiety I was experiencing, he set it up to do it under general anesthesia the very next morning because my comfort was a priority to him. My surgery went very quickly, in and out in under an hour. I am recovering as comfortably as can be expected as I write this. I have had many horribly traumatizing experiences with dental work, but Dr. Cox and his staff proved that there are some wonderful people in the profession. I'm not sure anyone would call a tooth extraction pleasant, but Dr. Cox gets as close as possible to that! I never imagined I would walk out of there with a smile on my face. I am writing this right now post surgery. I am pretty sober. I was sooooo nervous to get my teeth out. I HATE needles. I had 3 panic attacks before going in and I was googling picture of IV needles to mentally prepare myself. I went in and I didn't even know Doctor Cox had stuck the IV into me! I was so shocked. I really do not know why my dentist sent me to Mr. Cox. I was assuming that it was for sedation since I had developed an extremely fast and painful abscess. Tuesday I was given antibiotics and pain meds and sent to Cox Friday for an extraction. I had previously explained that I had extreme anxiety and traumatic experiences from past dentists that put me on edge and made me seriously nervous. I was thinking this was a specialist who was going to take care of me. Instead of taking time to help me relax, Cox came in and immediately started prepping to put numbing gel in my mouth. Before the gel even takes affect he stabs my abscess with the needle, moving it around with such force that my body involuntarily jolted in the seat and I let out a cry and a scream I didn't know I had in me. Which seems to annoy this dentist. I start shaking and crying asking him if he was supposed to sedate me and he matter of factly says, "oh sure I can sedate you." But says nothing after that. I had to ask through my tears, 'what would it cost me?' he tells me 400 dollars and no my insurance doesn't cover it. So I am now understanding exactly what is going on. He passively says, " you can always reschedule and come back at another time." After he wrenched the abscess in my mouth with his needle, he tells me I can come back if I want?!? I was shaking at the idea of him sticking me again in the pallet of my mouth. He has no real bedside manner to treat another human being like this. No care at all that I was having an anxiety attack from his sticking me like he did. It was extremely painful with no comforting, no explanation. I feel he is probably really cozy with his patients that shell out 400.00 for sedation but aggravated with those whose insurance payments is all they can afford. I am still recovering from this experience. I am physically in so much pain. My neck and head hurt but what is worse is the psychological trauma Cox put me through on Friday. I think he seriously needs some lessons in dealing with people who suffer from PTSD. He is not a safe choice for individuals who require a compassionate touch. And maybe not taking someone's abscess, putting gel on it and a second later, stabbing the abscess with a needle. That was just cruelty. Nothing more. read more

I had heard so many great things about him and his staff when I needed to have a wisdom tooth and 2 other teeth pulled. I live in eureka and only have one oral surgeon in this town and they are overpriced and do not take my dental insurance, in fact no one in this does. Had my consult yesterday with him at about 1:45-2:00. We decided on general anesthesia, especially after he said it will take 10 minutes after I was out. I must have questioned him 5 times about only taking 10 minutes. Once I was out, the entire surgery was actually 8 minutes!!! The whole process took less than an hour. If I ever need oral surgery I will definitely make the 4 hour drive and see Dr Cox and amazing staff!! The WORST part of the entire ordeal was being in Redding with so many great restaurants and not being able to eat :( read more

I was elated to see an oral surgeon with five stars across the board. Thank you so much, Yelp! As far as teeth pulling goes, this was the best experience that I have ever had. Cox is an outstanding doctor who has by far earned this rating. I remember when I found Cox through Yelp and Google, and I was torn between him and a different surgeon residing in Oregon. In the end, I asked a professor of mine if he had any recommendations for oral surgeons. He told me that his wife had gone to a phenomenal DMD in Redding named Mark Cox. I was so happy that it was the name of a doctor that I was already heavily considering! Right then and there, I made my decision. And I am SO happy that I did! Doctor Cox is such a professional. This practice is downright immaculate--it was really comforting to see how clean everything was. The staff is incredibly courteous, and the doctor is very mindful. He's attentive and considerate, and I cannot say enough good things about him! I felt very at ease with the procedure. I didn't even notice when he pulled my top teeth! He told me I was all finished and I was like, "what about the tops?" And he was like, "I already did them, silly." This place is just so efficient. I asked for a time estimate from one of the staff members and she was spot on. It took maybe fifteen minutes to pull four teeth. Once you're finished, they give you a baggy full of information on how to avoid dry sockets, etc. They also give you an icepack to reduce swelling, plus a bunch of gauze. And, to top it all off, they phone in the day after your procedure to see that everything is running smoothly. By that night, I was enjoying eating smoothies with a spoon. By the next day, I could eat soft solids. I've had a total of eight teeth pulled in my life. The first four were done by a general dentist, and it took me YONKS to recover. The last four were done here, at Cox's office, and my recovery time was beyond impressive. Prices are very reasonable. The price difference between having my teeth done here wasn't much more than if I'd have had them done at the same general dentist as before. The outcome was definitely worth the extra money. I had 2 very large mandibular tori removed (follow this link to see the procedure https://youtu.be/852U6hfIKWs ) and it only took 50" and I had minor pain immediately after surgery which was controlled with ibuprofen and almost no pain that night! I was eating solid food the same day. The sutures all dissolved after 5 days. There is a small amount of discomfort from the incision, but nothing like I thought it would be. Honestly, if I had known how easy this would be with Dr. Cox, I would have done it years ago. All the front office and clinical staff were very pleasant and helpful too.
