Dr Avon is a very caring doctor. When I saw him years ago, the disorder I had was relatively unknown and there weren't any genuine treatment plans for it. He referred me to a doctor who was specializing in my disorder.and after a number of years struggling with interstitial cystitis, it's finally subsiding. But, I did receive the best treatments possible for that time, thanks to Dr Avon. Other doctors had put me on endless antibiotics - which never helped. Others wanted to remove my bladder. He had the intelligence to send me to a doctor who knew more about this, saving me from treatments that could've been catastrophic read more

With all the polish and professionalism of a Philadelphia lawyer, this, very confident, old school, Case Western Medical Grad, Dr. Mark Avon, entered the room with a kind of panache that let you know...you are in the hands of greatness. His questions were direct and covered the subject of urology, like a ladies dress...Long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to keep it interesting ! His hands moved on the computer keyboard like a conductor, and before you knew it, he was giving you a full exam and doing so with such grace and compassion...You knew you were in the capable hands of a 30+ year veteran! The time flew by and as all of my questions were tendered, he even remembered, to order the labs we discussed. Dr. Mark Avon and his delightful and knowledgeable receptionist JoAnn, are Old School in a good way...They really put the CARE...back into Healthcare! Under the watchful eye of John Muir Health Department of Urology, Dr. Mark Avon, MD is at: 5201 Norris Canyon Rd. Suite 210 San Ramon, CA. 94583 (925) 830-1140 read more

I wanted to consult with Dr. Avon, but was treated like dirt. In fairness, I never actually got to MEET Dr. Avon... but that's exactly the issue at hand. I had an appointment to see him last week, but when I arrived at the office and checked in, the receptionist asked, "Oh, so you didn't get my voicemail? You were rescheduled to this morning." My thoughts: A) My presence should have been indication enough that I did NOT get the message (I've checked since... it wasn't received). Isn't it best practice for a dr's office to follow up to ensure that it was received??? B) John Muir Urology has a text message system- no such change was communicated via text **C) I had called the practice earlier that day to confirm the LOCATION... why wouldn't they provide me an update on TIME at that point? Still, my trip to the office was a minor inconvenience (I only live 10 min away), and I didn't think much of it at that time. I rescheduled the appointment for today. I showed up for today's appointment and checked in with no issues... but then nothing happened. I waited for 30 minutes before approaching the desk again, at which point, the receptionist asked me for my last name so that she could check me in... THEY FORGOT I WAS THERE! When I explained that, the receptionist then apologized and said she would check the reason for the delay. When she returned, she suggested that the doctor was running over with another patient... but then she started to say that him running over was expected and that they tried to call me... which was wrong again. It never happened. This time I made sure to confirm the time of the appointment beforehand. They took me back to a private room, but then they forgot about me... again... so after another half an hour, I left. I don't think I'd be so irate if this consultation wasn't supposed to be the only contact that I was supposed to have with the doctor before having surgery... but I couldn't go through with that. If this practice can't get scheduling right, how could I trust them to do anything else? Don't waste your time. Go to a different practice. read more

Health care the way it should be! Dr. Avon takes the time to listen, understand, and communicate. Always a quick joke or story...Never rushed. Always looks you in the eye. Absolutely the best bedside manner I've experienced in recent memory. One reviewer used the term "old school" and I must agree, Dr Avon considers and discusses options and doesn't just throw a pill at symptoms. His exams are thorough and comfortable, and he always makes the patient feel at ease. No man likes to get a prostate exam, but I actually look forward to going to see Mark Avon! Office staff is the same. Helpful, friendly, efficient and to the point; again, kind of "old school". read more

Awesome experience!! I was very apprehensive about having a vasectomy. My husband found Dr. Avon for me and I'm so glad she did. Dr. Avon and all of the staff were wonderful! The procedure was completely painless and the recovery was the same. I will definitely recommend this no scalpel method to all of my friends!! read more

Dr. Avon is awesome, he is truly caring... but how far does his attention to patients go when his Admin. Assistant Joan is a flat out an arse to patients? No phone manners, extremely rude, and uncaring, the absolute opposite of this wonderful Doctor. Loved him since we first met him 8+ years ago, but the lack of professionalism and cordiality from his Admin has stopped us from going back to him. As a doctor I give him 5 stars, as per his San Ramon Office as a whole, 3 at best. read more

I had a kidney stone blasted. my x-ray was red negative by the radiologist, but when he looked carefully at the film, saw the stone. He was able to do the lithotripsy at Fremont Surgical Center, (which was much better than a hospital based facility). the stone was successful disintegrated, and the stent was removed in the office the following week. very quick, accurate, and capable. his office staff are always kind and professional. read more

If you want a personable, professional urologist, I would highly recommend Dr. Mark Avon. My husband saw Dr. Avon after having a three month kidney stone pain and coming back from an ER visit. Dr. Avon impressed us with how he took time to make us feel comfortable in his office, answering all our questions about my husband's health and kidney stone problem. Dr. Avon, proactively made recommendations such as surgery to help alleviate my husband's severe kidney stone pain which was exactly what helped and what my husband needed. He also had great bedside manner and diligently followed up with my husband after the surgical procedure. Dr. Avon also has a great sense of humor and overall has great people skills. He is definitely a gem in a time where sadly most doctors are overworked and will only spend a few minutes to understand your condition while rushing you out the door! read more

If you need an urologist, I would recommend Dr Avon. He is very professional, truly caring and his admin at the fremont office is awesome. I felt very welcome as I set up my 1st appointmment. I went to my appointment after I went to see my chiropractor and when I told her I was going to see Dr Avon, she replied "you're in good hands, he is such a great dr" and she went on telling me what he had done for her and her husband. Dr Avon is the reason they were able to conceive 2 beautiful twins. I was very worried about having a cystoscopy done. I had heard from people that had experienced pain but Dr Avon is a pro (my boyfriend's words who was allowed to be with me in the room at the time of the procedure). Dr Avon took the time to explain things and I didn't feel rushed at all. We need more Drs like Dr Avon, it's nice not to feel like a number when you go to an appointment. The office in San Ramon is a little nicer than the one in Fremont but I would go to either one of them. read more

I've been seeing Dr Avon for a few years now. Originally I saw him when 2 E/R's and multiple tests were not able to determine the cause of my pain. As anyone who knows kidney stones can be very painful. He reviewed my X-rays which were deemed negative for kidney stones and saw something no one else did. A little spec 3french (medical measurement) big. He determined it was a stone and scheduled me for the proceedure to have it removed. Nothing but the highest level of professionalism and experience. I have the utmost respect and continue to see him. As for his receptionist in San Ramon, I have to agree with other reviewers that she could work on her people skills as they are none existent. read more

I am a new patient to Dr. Avon, an I have to say he is the best! Great experience I've ever had. I've seen lots of specialists at Kaiser an none of them could compare to his expertise. Dr. Avon is very thorough answers all your questions makes you feel comfortable and safe. We all know kidney stones are horrible but he makes you feel so at ease. I would highly recommend Dr. Avon! read more

I first met Doctor Avon approximately three years ago when I was, unfortunately, diagnosed with prostate cancer and was trying to determine the best solution to deal with this problem. Luckily, I had Doctor Avon as my Urologist and he professionally and compassionately walked me the numerous and complex options available to me to deal with my cancer. We decided on breaker therapy as the best approach for my particular situation and now three years later I am vastly improved and I most grateful for Doctor Avon and his compassionate and professional approach throughout the process. Had a Kidney stone attack and was referred to a urologist by my primary. Dr. Avon's office had no openings for over three weeks. He called back and seen me the next day at 7:15 AM. He came in early, even before his staff, to evaluate my condition, because he felt too much could go wrong in three weeks depending what the cause was of my condition. He is a throwback to the doctors of years gone past where they treat you like a person and family and not just another co-pay. Definately recommend!!!! read more

I highly recommend Dr. Avon. He is competent, professional, caring, personable and calm. I am not an "easy" patient, as I am extremely anxious about any and all medical procedures. Dr. Avon took the time to actually listen to my concerns and through his guidance, he provided me options for analyzing the cause of my issue. He has a very good sense of humor which I appreciated, and he used it appropriately to alleviate and diffuse my stress. He is simply terrific. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Mark Avon for many years. He is by far one of the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure of having treat me. He has been nothing but professional and a huge help to my health issues. Well had to go see a urologist. Wonderful! However, Mark was very nice, very professional, and made me feel comfortable in a not so comfortable situation. Accessed me and I was on my way. read more

How does one review a doctor, especially a urologist? Not sure, but for the most uncomfortable procedures, you really want a doctor that listens to you, addresses all your needs, and overall, just makes you feel comfortable in regards to what you will go through. I have gone to Dr Avon for my Kidney Stone over 10 years ago that I had to have broken down, a vasectomy a few years back, bladder check, and I had a recent well-check. He is one of the funniest doctors ever, and as I am just talking and laughing with him during my well visit, before you know it, he tells me, time for prostate exam, wait, what? Now, today? And before I knew it, done. Guys, get it done, it will save your life. I am not going to talk about it anymore though; but last note, all procedures, everything that Dr Avon worked on me, went great, no complications, and I highly recommend him to others. I so want to write some of the conversations I have with him, I am laughing about it now, he is one of a kind. Great doctor, you will be in good hands. Highly recommend! read more

My doctor/patient relationship with Dr. Mark Avon began back in 2000 when I was referred to him for prostate cancer screening which eventually culminated in him performing successful prostate surgery on me in 2010, a procedure known as Brachytherapy. Now, thanks to Dr. Avon's thorough approach to treatment of my prostate I will be seeing him only once a year instead of every six months. Oh, I will still get my PSA blood test done every year, but gone are those evaluated PSA tests and biopsies prior to 2010. In the fifteen years I have known Dr. Avon I can say he is a very special man as well as a very talented doctor. You know, " back in the day" doctors tended to be evaluated on their "bed-side manner"; well, I can tell you Dr. Avon's is outstanding. His sense of humor is therapeutic and he dispenses it at just the right time. To sum up; having known Dr. Avon for 15 years I can say from experience that he is a very special and talented doctor as well as a fine man. If any men are out there that are reluctant to get their prostate checked - don't wait. You are in "good hands" with Dr. Mark Avon! read more
