I don't think that Yelp is necessarily a great place for a doctor's review, but since it's here, I can leave my feedback. Unfortunately, I met Dr. Wynn after being diagnosed with breast cancer at the ripe age of 33. First stop on my cancer journey, the first place I went to, was Dr. Wynn. I was so anxious to meet him, I had so many questions, so many unknowns. 30 seconds into meeting Dr. Wynn, I was out at ease. A plan was put in place, I knew what was ahead, I felt secure/supported/understood. Almost 6 months later, 3 surgeries by Dr. Wynn and I and cancer free. And if I'm completely honest, their nurse, who is a patient of Dr. Wynn's herself, met with me one on one prior to one of my appointments, she had breast cancer herself. For some reason I connected with her and she helped me more than anyone else has on this ride. What she shared with me I can't share, you can't pay for that sort of support. Dr. Wynn, his office and staff are absolutely amazing. I can't say enough about my entire experience here. I hope to never see him again, but I know if I do, I am under the most amazing care. I traveled 40 miles and endured long traffic jams to consult Dr. Wynn. I must say it was worth every minute of wait on the road. Diane is the best office assistant I have ever seen. Never before have I seen anyone who was as empathetic to the situation and doing her best to squeeze in an appointment at such short notice. When my wife called to confirm the appointment, she even remembered my name ! Clinic is clean and free of clutter, plenty of parking space. I just wish they had one more in South Bay. About the surgeon - Prior to this consultation, I had a bad experience consulting a physician who had misdiagnosed the issue and scared the shit out of me. I was having second thoughts about seeing a surgeon, thinking that he is likely to advise surgery without weighing other options. I couldn't be more wrong about Dr. Wynn. He diagnosed the issue within minutes, had an excellent bedside manner, and a good sense of humor. He clearly explained what was going on and told I had to give some more time for medication to work before considering surgery. I felt a lot better just after talking to him. Wow! I almost want to get another hernia, just so I can visit with Dr Wynn! He obviously enjoys his work a great deal. He explained how the techniques have changed over the years to make it easier, quicker, and more painless for the patient. He spent time with me explaining the various options for my surgery: Option 1) Long recovery, lots of pain; Option 2) Medium recovery, medium pain; Option 3) Short recovery, little pain. Guess which option I took? The hernia surgery was incredibly pain-free, and after just a few days, I was back in the gym. (Well, okay, I admit I didn't do any bench-presses today, but I did a short burst on the elliptical, plus some curls. No crunches, for now.) And those 3 small incisions in my belly are hardly noticeable (at least no one in the locker room commented, which is good, I think.) Seriously, this man is one dedicated surgeon, and just a flat-out nice person. In the waiting room, the doctor has a funny book of "Far Side" cartoons and other comics. Plus, a nice picture or two of his girls, who became volleyball stars. In fact Dr. Wynn was a volleyball coach for many years. Dr Wynn called the day after surgery to make sure I was okay, and emphasized that he would be available throughout the weekend should I have any issues (I did not.) Another plus--their office people are really nice. When Dr Wynn's nurse , Diane, called me yesterday to schedule the follow-up, I tried to fool her into thinking I was in severe pain, but she wouldn't buy it. I did my best imitation of something shrieking in agony, but I couldn't fool her. She knew it was incredibly unlikely that their patient would truly be groaning in pain. After a few moments of fake shrieks, I gave it up. In summary, I can recommend Dr. Wynn without hesitation. My wife has also used Dr Wynn's services for a similar reason, and has a similar glowing report. It's very obvious why this man has been selected to perform 4,000 hernia operations. Why not choose the best? After 4,000 hernia operations, he really knows what he's doing! Ah--I just noticed one other thing. Dr Wynn is a graduate of the famous UC Irvine School of Medicine. UCI is a really great school, and is second only to the even more famous UCI School of Engineering,which really turns out geniuses. I was having severe pain in my lower left side of my abdomen. After 4 flare-ups and intense pain Dr. Wynn took one look at my CT scan and told me I needed surgery. I was very reluctant, but after my next flare-up I called him (he insisted I call if I had any new flare-ups). He put me in the hospital on cipro & flagyl for 5 days then performed a coloctomy. I stayed 5 more days in the hospital. It's been three months and I have never felt better. Thank you Dr. Wynn... You are kind, smart, funny, sweet and so efficient. You are my HERO!! Dr Wynn is a truly gifted competent surgeon. He performed two thyroid surgeries for cancer on me. His incisions are so small & healed so perfectly they are barely visible. Tylenol was all that was needed for the minor discomfort. Dr Wynn & his staff are very comforting. They are easy to work with and calmly explain everything. Dr. Wynn was very nice and his sense of humor made me feel at ease but initially he told me the scar would be about 1-2 inches across my belly button and when the bandages came off, the scar was 6 inches across my stomach. He said the hernia was higher than he thought when he went in and needed to make the cut larger to find it. I don't understand how he didn't know where the hernia was! I am olive complexion and my scars never fade so I will never be able to wear a bikini again and am now very self conscience about the appearance of my stomach. I've been to my dermatologists and used scar & bleaching creams with no improvement. Had I known the scar would have been this ugly, I would have looked into other options. read more

I can't even give this doctor a single star. He is a horrendous surgeon who ruined my life by making a negligent choice during surgery. He couldn't find the hernia TWICE and then decided to put a 3" x 6" piece of Mylar mesh in me instead. The mesh totally destroyed my body and I have massive permanent damage now. I had to have the mesh removed or it would have killed me. The damage from the mesh and the adhesions that grew everywhere in my abdominal cavity have destroyed the quality of my life. I suffer everyday with pain and I am dependent on meds to function. This doctor ruined my body and I strongly reccommend to FIND ANOTHER DOC!!! read more

Amazing staff and overall caring feeling. I initially ended up going to an urgent care facility when Dr. Wynn was out of town and a cyst that turned into an abscess and got totally out of control. After 3 visits to urgent care, I called Diane and started out with "I'm begging you to see if you can squeeze me in to see Dr. Wynn as soon as possible... PLEASE don't make me go back to urgent care." Diane was wonderful and when I did see Dr. Wynn, the unpleasantness of Urgent Care was wiped from my memory. He's funny and kind and gentle. Explained everything he was doing and why while dealing with the abscess (local anesthetic). "Bi-lateral inguinal hernia repair"...not the words anyone wants to hear. However, Dr. Wynn and his dyamic duo (Diane and Sue) helped calm my nerves and get a wimp (me) through a relatively routine (for Dr. Wynn) procedure. Now, my PCP referred me to another specialist but I took the time to research Yelp! and Health Grades. I'm so glad I did as that's where I found Dr. Wynn. From the moment I met Dr. Wynn, I felt at ease with him and felt like I could really trust him. He explained the surgery options along with the risks and benefits of each option. He listened to my concerns and addressed them pointedly. Dr. Wynn is extremely talented, funny, and has a great bedside manner. I hope I don't need any additional surgeries going forward. If I do, I will be certain to reach-out to Dr. Wynn. If you need his services for any reason, I recommend him unconditionally! BTW, it's about a week since my surgery. Ok - I just had a really great experience at a doctors office and that's hard to imagine when you are thinking you may have to have surgery. Everyone, from the lady at the front desk to the nurse who took me in to the room to the doctor, were sooo nice. That's all I can say...everyone was just so nice that they were making me laugh and joking around. When the doctor came into my room, he just had a very nice and funny attitude. He is all the things mentioned in other reviews - knowledgeable, extremely competent, careful to explain all your options, funny as hell + great rapport. I love our gentle banter. He really takes time with me every time I've seen him. He treats you like an actual person, listens to you, and remembers later what you say to him. If I ever need another surgery (I hope I don't of course) Dr. W will be the only surgeon I'll want. I like to tease him about making the front page of Scar Magazine. I recently went to see Dr. Wynn because I needed to have my thyroid removed. I was nervous, but he made me feel completely comfortable. At the hospital, he personally came to my room to wheel me down to surgery. He was so personable that my husband didn't even realize he was the surgeon at first! After my surgery he called me personally to check on me, discuss test results, etc. It's been two months and I have had two people mention how small my scar is compared to others they know, so I feel his skills as a surgeon are also exceptional. I heartily agree with the previous reviews of Dr. Michael Wynn. Although I had to see him for something not much fun ie., breast cancer surgery, he and his staff made the experience so much more pleasant than I could possibly have ever imagined. First and foremost, he is an outstanding surgeon, but he is also a warm, caring and very approachable man. My previous experience with surgeons has been that they are very capable, but as a whole, are an arrogant and cold group of doctors. Dr. Wynn is completely different. I was very nervous about my appointment, but he put me completely at ease and spent a long time with me going over all my options and making sure I understood them. Even though I knew he was very busy, he acted as though I were his only patient. He also is very witty and funny, which is exactly what I needed. As I was waiting outside of the operating room for my surgery, he came out in the halfway to greet me and he will never know how much that meant to me at that particular time. My surgery was nine months ago, and I am doing very well. I still need to see him every three months, and as strange as this seems and something I thought I would never say, I look forward to these three month visits. I would be very neglectful if I left out his outstanding office staff, Diane and Sue. They are a lot of the reason why I look forward to these visits; I just miss them and love seeing them again.They are very professional and efficient, but , just like Dr. Wynn, they are also so warm, funny and welcoming. I was referred to Dr. Wynn for my thyroid removal, and boy what a good decision that was. I have been to many medical offices where they are over booked and crowded and you are just a number. Not at this office, the staff is wonderful, caring and very efficient. Dr. Wynn was kind, concerned, helpful and a great surgeon. I'm giving 2 stars since I think Dr. Wynn did a competent job doing the actual hernia surgery in December 2014. However, the post-op experience was a nightmare. I called the office a few days before the surgery and asked if I could go up and down stairs after the surgery. I was told by the person answering the phone it's fine as long as I don't run up and down the stairs. WRONG ANSWER! The receptionist was not qualified to answer the question and the day after surgery I felt good so I went up and down the stairs slowly a few times then had severe pain. When I told the Dr. Wynn that I was constipated from the surgery he said the painkillers that he prescribed can cause more constipation. I was afraid to take the prescription meds since he said it causes constipation and I was concerned that advil could cause bleeding. So I only took one or two advils a day and by the 5th day I was writhing on the floor in pain. Finally, my nurse friend said I need to take the advil 24/7 and in a few days the pain began to subside. A few weeks later I again had severe pain and Dr. Wynn's response to the pain that radiated down to the testicular area was "You can wait it out or we could take your testicle out." NOT FUNNY! I then told him that I'm still all black and blue around the incision area and his response was "Why I don't you take a picture of it and send it out with your Christmas cards." NOT FUNNY! When I couldn't reach Dr. Wynn I talked to another doctor on call who was very compassionate and helpful. There are several competent surgeons in the area who most likely have much better post-op procedures. read more
