Dr. Flagg is everything you'd want in a primary care physician: knowledgeable, empathetic, courteous, and diligent. The last quality is especially evident in the fact that he responds quickly to messages, takes the time to communicate with you outside of office visits with regard to test results, etc. He also has a good sense of humor. Not a good experience. Despite stating during appointment scheduling that it should be an annual health check-up visit, his office billed us for a problem-oriented visit and denied changing the claim code. He didn't do anything special during the visit apart from ordering routine labs, which, unlike his service, were fully covered as preventive care. read more

The following is a factual account of how my initial visit went and you be the judge about whether this is the GP office for you: Dr Flagg seemed kind and competent enough, but the medical system only allows him to be a typist who stays seated at the terminal on a stool and never does any examination. It's like playing "beat the Clock" to try to get the important stuff mentioned. After he left the room, I remembered about the earwax plugging my ear through the pandemic, giving me discomfort and affecting my hearing. In the hallway was a staffer seated at a workstation: Me "I forgot to tell the Dr about my earwax problem." Staff: "The Dr is in with a patient" Me: "Can a nurse look at me? Staff: "We don't have a nurse" Me: "What about a Physician's Asst?" Staff: "We don't have a Physician's Assistant" I went in to the bathroom and gathered my thoughts. Me: "Can I see the doctor for one minute when he's done?" Staff: "He's doing a physical, and then he has another patient. You'll have to make an appointment to come back." Me: "Can he see me between patients? It should only take a minute to look in my ear." Staff: "Go back in the room and we'll try to find someone." Dr comes in, looks in my ear, and sees wax. (took perhaps 2 minutes) Someone else comes in, she mentions she's happier the more wax she gets out, and flushes out wax and my ear opens up and feels great. Me: Did you get it all? Staff: Let me look, no there's a alot more, very deep. She flushes more, then says I see it, can I get I try to get it out? I foolishly agree, and she causes major pain, does not get any more wax,and she says "uh oh" it's very red, I better call the Dr in to look. You must have very sensitive ears or maybe the wax was stuck to your skin. Dr comes in and looks in my ear, says there's blood, and there's NO wax left (?). Now I have an earache for three days and trying to get to an ENT. I just got a message from the Dr that he submitted a refferal to the ENT, Benjamin Loos.. When I called the ENT ("Kristie") to make the appointment, she said they have the referral but cannot use it because it wasn't complete. So they couldn't even get the referral right. BTW, I asked what was missing, and she said they were "not allowed to tell me" and I need to call Flagg's office and they didn't want to call for me. read more

Damn, Sunday I started feeling a little snuffly and on Monday I could tell I had a minor cold and a sinus infection - and I had tickets to the Yelp Elite event that night (Monday nights performance of Machine: A Fire Opera). So I cancelled my yelp night out and called Flagg's office to get an appointment. Left message and of course they didn't call back. Called this morning and got right in. Licitly split, Dr Flagg checks me out and gives me a script to knock out the infection before it gets any worse. In a couple of days I'll be right as rain - if only it would rain around here. Too late for the Yelp Elite event, but oh well. Kids and I have been going to Flagg for a while now. I consider he and Kristin, the PA, to be professions and high quality Dr's. The only issues I have had have been with office staff - not returning phone calls, occasionally seeming disorganized, etc. I seem to occasionally sense an attitude in them that, honestly, I don't understand. Although I seem to get less time in his new John Muir practice (maybe due to level of volume), I just needed to adjust to get straight to what I need. SUMMARY: Hugely disappointed in this office! The nurses are mean and vindictive to patients who were just trying to help other people! I got stabbed excessively hard for my shot by an angry nurse who was mad I arrived during their lunch hour! BACKSTORY: I've been going here for about 2 years for B12 shots, approximately every 3 weeks. There was a medical assistant who always did my shots who was nice and friendly, but she got pregnant and left permanently a couple of months ago. I don't think they've found anyone to replace her yet and I'm not sure if they're going to. Last week, I went in for my regular shot. They always ask you to call first so they can pull your chart ahead of time, which is like, a cabinet over from their phone. It was a pain to always call in and be like "pull my chart I'm coming in" when I could have just walked in and asked the same thing. It didn't save them any time nor did it save me any time by always having to call, but I digress. Anyway, I go in last week and arrive at 1:08pm. As I'm walking in to the office, a woman is walking out and she holds the door open for me and my baby in a stroller and my older child. We walk in and sit down as there is no one there at the front desk to help me. I know they are at lunch so I figure I will just wait until someone comes out. I've arrived prior to 1:30pm in the past and have always been helped. This time, no one was there. I know I'm early so I tell my daughter we have to wait, probably for 20 minutes. A few min after arriving, my daughter is complaining she has to go to the bathroom. So I start walking her back to use their restroom and someone comes around the corner and asks, "Have you been helped yet?" I said, "No, there's no one up front to help me. I know you're still closed for lunch." She said that was okay and she pulled my chart. After using the restroom, I sit back down on a bench and another patient is knocking on the door, which is locked. The door has frosted glass on it but you can still see people behind the glass, so I know she can see me sitting there. I politely get up and open the door for her. She goes to the front desk and is immediately helped by the first nurse who gives her new patient paperwork to fill out. A few minutes later, a second elderly patient in a wheelchair is knocking on the door with his caretaker behind him. I get up again and open the door for them. A few minutes after that, an angry nurse comes out, opens the door to check the lock and says, "The door is locked. How are these people getting in?" I said, "I've been letting them in." Where she very Rudely and Condescendingly says to me, "WHY are you doing that?! We are at LUNCH!" I said, Because they're knocking? And they can see me sitting here?? Here's a thought: POST A SIGN on your locked door that you are AT LUNCH and will unlock the door at 1:30?! Is that too difficult to figure out?! The first patient saw how I was being treated and spoke up loudly to say, "Thanks for letting me in, I appreciate you doing that." At 1:35pm, Angry Nurse calls me to the back for my shot where she immediately launches in to lecturing me that they are at lunch from 12:30-1:30 and I should know that and I can't be helped earlier than 1:30. I was like, yes I know that, I was patiently waiting and never complained! Calm down lady! (none of them wear name tags so I don't know her name!) So I sit down for my shot in my arm, which I've gotten dozens of times over the past few years, and she JABBED that shot harder than I've ever felt. It's usually almost painless but I experienced sharp, shooting pain from her injection that I've never felt before in any of my previous shots from the regular assistant! I felt like she was angry at me so she was going to punish me further by stabbing me with the B12 injection!! I couldn't believe it! I WILL NEVER GO BACK!! I have already found another doctor's office who is going to administer my shots going forward. Dr. Flagg, you should really look at the women working for you as nurses - they need to be re-trained immediately!!! You just lost a long time patient over their horrible customer treatment! **Editing to Add** - I've been contacted by another patient of Dr. Flagg's who said the name of the mean nurse is Shawnee. This patient has also had several run-ins with Shawnee being rude and yelling at him. He said he's talked to Flagg about removing her but Flagg refuses. He is not sure what the deal is with Flagg and Shawnee, allowing her to treat patients so poorly! So I am not the only one who experienced shabby treatment here! read more

I really like this office, Dr. Flagg, and all of the staff with whom I've come into contact. They're able to get me in quickly for emergencies (I have back problems that sometimes become completely intolerable and crippling). I have only seen Dr. Flagg once but he was kind, respectful, and didn't rush me like so many doctors do. I see Deborah, one of the Physician's Assistants, somewhat often lately. She is very, very nice, concerned, and helpful. She is also very responsive to messages. The office staff (nurses, office manager, reception staff) are all warm and personable, which is very important to me. I highly recommend this practice. read more

Another year has passed since my review of Doc Flagg, and I'm pleased to say all is still going well. Now we finally got the whole family (wife and son) transferred over to this office and we are thrilled to have him as a family physician. The wife now believes me about my comment that he has a special skill of blood draws that few other docs or med assistants have. Her veins are so small and buried so deep in her arm that we need to have her stand on her head, slap her in the face about 8 times, and tell her to scream in order to find the veins. Alright so I exaggerated a bit; however, before transferring to this office, she used to go to Kaiser and the final straw for her was that 3 different people attempted to stick her arm a total of 9 times and still did not complete the task. She walked out in frustration and said she was going to go to my doctor. Sorry Kaiser, but the wife went to a private medical plan and switched to this office. She and our son love this guy for many reason. More than a year has passed and she is thrilled. read more

Very disappointed. Was a patient of Dr. Flagg for several years. Then his office moved to a different location. Little did I know they stopped taking my insurance. Had appt for physical. Front desk asked if I had same insurance and I said yes. They said nothing. After physical I asked the MA if there is a copay I should pay. She said "no, a physical is fully covered". Then I get a bill for $388.00. Turns out they are now "out-of-network" with my insurance. The manager was not helpful at all. I wrote a letter to the doctors office. Zero response. Why did they even ask me if I had the same insurance if they're not going to check my eligibility? Very poor professionalism. Make sure they take your insurance before you make any appointments. Please note I no longer am a patient of this office. I requested to have MY records released from this office to my new doctor at Kaiser. I received a call from someone stating they would be happy to release the records, however there is a standard $25.00 fee which I would have to pay prior to sending. I left a review previously about my terrible experience at this office and to top it off a fee for records that technically are mine. I requested my records from my former doctors without any issues and request for payment. This place is money hungry (see my previous review). The funniest part is my wife requested her records without any kind of request for funds.. not to mention her file would be much much bigger than mine since she has gone to them more often then I. Overall, a good doctor's office and a caring doctor. Mary Ann (I hope I have the name right) is a sweetheart, and the gentleman in the front office (sorry - forgot his name entirely!) is nice and professional. The only issue is the office manager - Yvonne. She really has an unnecessarily abrasive, impolite approach with patients. I think that she either has difficulty hearing or has difficulty with transitions/multi-tasking. The problem is that when she asks a question and is unable to hear or process the response, she gives the responder attitude for her own deficiency. I have now experienced this several times with her, so she has exceeded the number of times worthy of being given the benefit of the doubt. She really shouldn't handle patient interactions - especially by phone, because that is when her ability to hear/process information seems to be most deficient. Note: I strongly believe that front office staff have a significant impact on the perceived quality of patient care. I recommend that the office provide clear training opportunities to correct the defficiency in Yvonne's treatment of clients (that is what patients are: clients). read more

I needed a new general doctor because mine suddenly retired. I went to see Dr. Flagg at the recommendation of my Radiation Oncologist. Dr. Flagg is his primary doctor, so I thought it was a good referral. I met with Dr. Flagg for the first time today. I had a great visit and I feel that he will be a good physician for my wife and I. During my initial consultation, Dr. Flagg was very personable, thorough, and understanding. Dr. Flagg has been my primary care physician for about 15 years. I recommend him highly. He consistently takes time to thoroughly answer all my questions, and provides clear information on various alternative treatments that are available. Dr. Flagg has surgically removed several skin cancers, in his office. These procedures were all completely successful, and the resulting scars were minimal, better than the results of other similar procedures performed by a dermatologist. Occasionally I need to see a Dr. right away. His office has always been able to squeeze me into the schedule the same day. read more

I have been going to Dr. Flagg ever since I was 13. I am now 38. I have never had a problem with him or his office and have always felt that they went above and beyond my expectations. Dr. Flagg is very friendly and shows real concern for you. When ever I go to visit him its like seeing an old friend that I havent seen in a while. He's even worked with me when I didnt have insurance so that I didnt have any extremely high Dr. bills to worry about. Now that I have a family I have started taking my Daughter to Dr Kennessy who shares the office with Dr. Flagg. I changed frm Kaiser and needed a Dr. Dr. Flagg was recommended by my ! ob. We've been with him for 13 years. We all see him ( me & 2 kids) as well as his NP, Kristen. What's amazing is his office is well run and they care. I wasn't sure if they could take me so I was going to try John Muir Urgent which said they could see me at 6:15 PM as it was 12:30 PM (Flagg's office was on lunch). I waiting till Flagg's office got back online from lunch and got an immediate appointment within 1/2 an hour. This is pretty much a common element when we need care, we get it. They'll listen and work with you. They also give good referrals if you need to go to a specialist as he is a family practitioner. read more

I just recently dropped Kaiser after having them for the last 20 plus years. I was just sick and tired of the circles that they made me run around in. I searched on-line for doctors that were close to where I lived and with good reviews and Dr. Flagg was one of them so I figured I'd give him a shot. Glad I did. He was able to see me right away and he seemed to genuinely care about me. He asked a lot of questions and encouraged me to ask him anything. I moved forward with him for a follow up visit for a full psychical. 3 days later I had my blood work back with suggestions on how to improve it. All in all I'm glad I dumped Kaiser and found Dr. Flagg. I too was skeptical about people's reviews but Dr. Flagg seems pretty legit to me so I'm sticking with him. read more

I tried to schedule a new patient appointment for my husband and the receptionist gave me such a hard time because she demanded that I gave her 2 phone numbers for contact.
