To be honest, Dr Reginato wasn't my first choice when doing my research for a new primary care physician. He was the default choice after the first two declined to take new patients. But from the moment I made the appointment, then met the office staff, then meeting Dr Reginato for the first time -- I definitely feel I made a great choice. He was very thorough, nice, and a gentle spirit. He wanted to know all about me and prior conditions. He checked me up, down, and sideways. He recognized something that alarmed him, that ended up getting an x-ray (Bass), and then further, having a procedure (Bass), that proved to be negative. Awful. He really didn't seem to be interested in talking to me or even being in the same room with me. He actually states on his website bio "I partner with patients with complex medical conditions to manage all the various issues, specialists and treatments in a holistic way" except he acts as if he has never dealt with a complex patient ever. He actually told me, "Well, you have all of these specialists and they seem to be looking into this, so I don't know why you need me." Um, what??? He dismissed my pain, was abrupt and rude, and then questioned why I need help coordinating specialists- in a holistic way, I might add- to get a clear diagnosis because they were all just focusing narrowly on their part of the body. Verbatim: "I don't know why you need a diagnosis, it's not like it's curable or treatable. You need me just to find you a support group?" It was only after the appointment that I remembered that I was paying this man for the pleasure of getting demeaned and dismissed. He was apparently confused because he acted as if he had been doing me some kind of favor (begrudgingly) or I was forcing him to be there. Interestingly, after reading these reviews, it seems like he has some major problems with women who are in pain and likes to be rude and dismiss them. Please avoid. You're just going to walk out of there feeling pretty crazy and have all hope drained away. Oh yeah, I was later diagnosed with what I had been talking to him about and it is incredibly serious, there are treatments (he just wasn't knowledgeable), and I was not over-reacting. But he made me feel like I was a crazy liar and that caused me to doubt myself and waste time in pursuing a second opinion. Nobody has the right to do that to someone else. read more

I'm literally signing up for Yelp *just* to post this review. I have seen Reginato twice now. Both times - I left feeling like I was crazy and that nothing I wanted to discuss was actually addressed. I recently started working at a job where I could afford medical coverage and wanted to start looking into things that have been bothering me for many years. The first time I went there - I mostly wanted to address pain that I've had in my back for about 20 years. I've seen chiropractors before - I've had massages and used the tens unit and heat to try and treat the pain. Because of my lack of insurance - getting an x-ray or mri wasn't really available for me - so I was hopeful that I'd see a doctor that would start the process of finding out the cause of my pain. Instead - I'm told that there's nothing they can do. No tests - no routes to find out what it could be - instead I should just try acupuncture. He provided me with two prescriptions - one of which wasn't even called into my pharmacy after my appointment. Because of this lack of assistance - I tried another chiropractor who took an x-ray right away and has been helping me with the pain. Something that any doctor should have been able to do apparently. I went back again yesterday though - this time to receive prescription refills as I have moved away from my psychiatrist and just needed a refill until a new one was found. When I called - I stated that I wanted to address medication refill as well as discuss my back and a few other items. I mentioned to the nurse that checked me in - told her the medications that I needed and clarified where they needed to go. I told it to the doctor as soon as he was in as well. And I mentioned it TWICE on my way out - since I already had experience with them not calling in my medication from my previous visit. During my appointment with the doctor - I brought my boyfriend along because of my previous experience. I told him that I felt like my issues were ignored and he noted that it appeared the doctor just wanted to fill all the talking with medical terms instead of actually listening - and rushed to leave the room as soon as possible. Again my back pain was brought up - and I told him the chiropractor took an x-ray and saw pinched nerves. No suggestion that we could have one taken there to confirm - just total dismissal again as something they couldn't help with. When I told them about stomach issues I am experiencing - I was told to eat fiber...... Save your time - don't go here. The doctor obviously doesn't really care about people and figuring out what's wrong. Instead he just brushes it off and makes you feel like you wasted your time... read more

Great doctor who has a quiet demeanor. He listens and if he doesn't have an answer will refer you to a team of excellent specialists in his network. I do a lot of my communication through the My Chart app, and never wait that long for a response from the doc. He works with a scribe, which I like, as the scribe takes notes so the doctor can directly talk to you. He is very soft spoken, could even be shy, but has a steel trap mind, and is good at allaying fears, putting your mind at ease. read more

The office is located in a parking lot in back of a strip mall. But it's an older, wooden, low-slung strip mall and we're in Orinda so it's all fairly scenic. You even get to drive over a quaint little bridge which you won't notice the first time because you're too anxious. Make an appointment with Dr. Reginato just so that when you say: "My internist always follows up promptly with lab results. He's not averse to returning a patient's call and answering questions over the phone. I am never required to schedule an appointment 1-3 months into the future, nor do I ever wait long in the reception area. He's thorough without always indulging a patient's definition of thorough (which can lead to unwarranted tests, procedures, radiation exposure and unecessary $$ spent). In other words he knows when to gently apply the brakes. Of course, not all patients want that. For instance, you might prefer a doctor who will drive you around the block 30 times so that you both can feel real busy", and the person you're talking to says "You mean intern?", you can say "No, actually, I dont." I very briefly held it against Dr. Reginato when he confessed he wasn't familiar with Fatal Familial Insomnia but I decided to cut him some slack because this very rare prion disease, present in an estimated 25 families on the entire planet, probably wasn't even a footnote in his years of medical study. 4 versus 5 stars only because our rapport is not perfect. It's good. I can talk; he's patient, listens, but I've had a couple doctors in my life with whom rapport was stellar and we're just shy of that. Also, the return envelopes are half the size of the statements I receive in the mail, which presents a modicum of trouble for me when posting bills. read more

He listens carefully, doesn't come across as rushed, provides excellent care, calls back quickly, is flexible in his approach. He is smart and is a good kind human being. I've been a patient in this office for more years than most of you can imagine! Over my llifetime I've seen a myriad of doctors for different things and Dr Reginato gets high marks for his thoroughness and responsiveness. He always returns calls promptly and takes time to answer all my questions. My husband also sees him - and thanks to Dr Reginato's insight he was diagnosed with a very serious disease that could have easily slipped under the radar for many other doctors... Yes, it's an old, small building and the front office isn't always wonderful - but for the most important reason you go to a doctor - he's it! read more

I don't know Candell well, but Reginato and Ammon, whom I do know well and have seen for years, stand out for being caring, kind, honest, and smart. I agree with a prior poster. This guy is everything you'd want in an MD and more. He genuinely cares about his patients, communicates well, keeps up with the latest and greatest, and still holds a wise and reasonable course when it comes to tests and treatment. He returns phone calls promptly and willingly. My one gripe is not with him but rather with his office (and thus I'm still giving five stars): Unlike some modern practices, including even Kaiser, they will not communicate with you, or let you communicate with your doctor, via email. In fact, they won't even give out the office email address. As far as their Luddite tendencies, I agree with their policy to disallow cell-phone use in the office. And I like the quaint homey atmosphere of the office, its location, and the practice itself. But this refusal to engage in email I find frustrating and annoying. Still, not Dr. Reginato's fault. I have been with Dr. Reginato for 10 years. He has always taken the time to listen to my concerns and provide his expert opinion. He has been correct and will not overprescribe. I have been impressed with all interactions. The office staff is no different than other doctors. Many other reviews mention problems with the office staff. While that was certainly true in the past, Dr. Reginato has moved to another medical group, the Blackhawk Medical Group, and the office staff there is top-notch. Those issues cited in the older reviews don't apply to his current practice. Dr. Reginato is the best primary-care physician I have known. He genuinely cares about his patients; something that can't be faked. In every visit I've had with Dr. Reginato over the years, he actually listens carefully to what I have to say. That level of attention is very rare with most doctors these days. His careful and thorough approach has been directly life-saving for me: Recently I had been having some vague symptoms of fatigue and a mysteriously-low O2 level. I visited a board certified pulmonologist who gave me a cursory once-over and said there was nothing to worry about. But at the urging of some pulmonary rehabilitation specialists I know, I went to see Dr Reginato (the same day I called his office). When he saw me, he quite quickly suspected that I may have a pulmonary embolism. He explained that these blood clots lodge in the lungs, but will likely break free and travel to the heart, causing instant death. He arranged for an immediate CAT scan, verifying his suspicions, and started me on drugs to dissolve the clots. I'm pretty sure I'd be dead today without his diagnostic expertise and immediate treatment. The pulmonary specialist, someone with much more training in this area, completely missed it. Dr. Reginato is attentive - he listens to you, a rare quality these days. He's very highly skilled - his treatment of my multiple conditions has allowed me to lead a quite normal life. He's even called me at home, something I haven't experienced in 25 years. I am a very lucky person to have him as my primary-care doctor!! read more

Dr Regianto is a capable physician and will take the time work with his patients. My biggest issue is with Sandy at the front desk. Rude and unprofessional. It is clear she does not like her job and makes calling or visiting the office unpleasant. Knowing that other patients feel the same way, i am suprised she is still there. read more

If you can , select another office. The staff member is incapable. I need a referral for physical therapy, Dr Reginato didn't ask for authorization after my visit. So I had to call back, and left a voicemail (which is requested if you want to speak the doctor) asking to call me back. That never happened. Instead, Michelle (Dr Reginato"s assistant) told me, she would never listen to her voice mail..so it's no use to leave a message. So I called the office today, asking the front desk to transfer my to Dr Reginato..I again ended up at Michelle's voicemail. When I called again asking to transfer me to a person, they just hung up on me. It's really frustrating to be their patient! read more

I love Dr. Reginato. I don't have health insurance and am on limited income and he charged me very little for an office visit, which I really appreciated. He is kind, takes time to listen, seems very competent. What's not to like? He's great! The office is a bit small, but I appreciate not having to pay more for a big flashy office. Parking is easy. Dr. Reginato's receptionist, Sandy, is rude, incompetent and she lacks empathy. I recently called numerous times during the workday to have Dr. Reginato call me back when my husband was experiencing severe pain. Sandy was dismissive, cold and apparently wrote my phone number down wrong so that allegedly the doctor could not return the call! Two days later, Dr. Reginato finally called our home phone. By that time, my husband had already undergone an emergency appendectomy! On a separate occasion, my husband got a call back from Dr. Reginato's partner, Dr. Candell. In the middle of my husbands explanation of his symptoms, the doctor interrupted him to place his family's Taco Bell order at the drive-thru. Nice professionalism! Both my wife and I are in our 70's and we have our share of health problems. Dr. Reginato has been a pleasure to deal with: he takes whatever time is required, returns all phone calls promptly, acts quickly on any requests. He is a good listener, and for a young guy, shows more empathy than expected. We can recommend him without reservations, as long as you can live with a mediocre office staff, a lazy assistant, and an old fashioned record system where things do get lost. read more
