The food was just okay. The service was good and the outdoor seating has a beautiful view of the lake and dock.

What an experience!…read more Immersive and transportive. Felt like I was back in time, in a world of fantasy. I didn't quite understand all of what was said and was hoping there would be some English in there too, but for the most part, the energy of the crowd, the singing and theatrics, was so contagious that the language barrier often became an afterthought. The food was generous, hearty and so more ish. Nothing to fault here. My partner and I shared two tasting platters in which we sampled their Pork Ribs, Viking's Quenelle, Game Pie and Boar Sausage. All excellent and how can I forget their fries! These were the underdogs. They let us get a mix of the their three kinds - spicy wedges, cinnamon sugar chips, and salted fries - all of which were scrumptious. My favorite was the spicy kind which was painfully delicious. We ended with a molten chocolate dessert which came with the best concoction of cranberries and Grand Marnier on the side, which created depths I didn't know existed. The molten chocolate itself was okay. Besides the service being rather relaxed with things often taking longer to arrive than preferred, this is worth a visit for everyone visiting Montreal. As for locals, run. Don't walk!

We decided to come after a long drive since it was Halloween. When we walked in, the staff were dressed up, which was super cute. They even offered us candy I took a KitKat and my boyfriend grabbed a Coffee Crisp, lol. There was an older couple nearby having fish and chips, and it smelled amazing. We decided to go classic: a small poutine, hot dog, and hamburger with a drink. Our total came to around $35-$38, which might sound a bit high but honestly, I'm used to those prices and it was totally worth it. I loved how fresh their cheese was SQUEAKYYYY I'm pretty sure it comes straight from a local farm. The fries were perfectly crispy, the coleslaw was finely shredded, and the hot dog had that soft, fluffy bun that's just right. The hamburger had that smashed-style feel thin, juicy, with just mustard, onions, and cabbage instead of a pile of toppings. We'd 100% come back whenever we're in the area and definitely recommend checking it out. I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo
