We decided to try out a new spot recommended by Yelp. At first, it was a bit tricky to find the location but we were determined and found it. It was renamed to Mariscos Chinola, As we walked in, we were greeted by Aileen, who made us feel welcome right away and offered some great recommendations. Everything we ordered was outstanding--absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be recommending this place. Even though at the beginning the place looked sketchy now I knows It's a hidden gem! My husband and I love this spot. We found it by chance and have been going back weekly since.

This is the 3rd time I come to this place and they say they open at 11:30am. There was an employee inside before 2 other ones arrived came here at 11:00. Was patiently waiting it was 11:45 am and decided to finally come inside and door wasn't even open . The lady came out and said "we aren't open yet the cook has not arrived yet ." What kind of place doesn't open on time and has their main cook come late and is not even ready to open at the time it says on their sign. This is the 3rd time this happens and food has been good but this is just unbelievable they need to get new cooks or have management or owners do something about this. Horrible!! It's attached to a gas station so it looks a bit sketch. As soon as you walk in the dirty bathroom stench really hits you. We ordered six dishes total and it was a little over $100. Some of the food was ok but nothing great. If you can get over the smell and over priced food I guess it's ok. There is nothing really spectacular about this place. Came here with my better half, ordered two shrimp cocktails and waited, and waited for it to evolve. They were good. Not excellent, not outstanding, not extraordinary. There are so many Mexican restaurants and Mexican food hole in the wall establishments in Southern California, so when I go to one that sets the bar high in regards to authentic flavor, service and cleanliness, that's my reference point. I've already dined at several Mexican food restaurants that set the bar pretty high. So the question here is, does Mariscos El Chango set the bar high or even come close to it? The answer for me is, nope. But that doesn't mean "you" won't love it. They do have an exclusive item on their menu called King Kong that's worth mentioning. Aside from that, go ahead and try it for yourself and give them a Yelp of your own. As for me, I don't believe I'll be returning here anytime soon. read more

My husband and I dropped by here on a trip up from San Diego. What a great find! I will make this a regular stop on my way north. The tacos were excellent - I got one smoked marlin, and one shrimp gobernador -- and the salsas were delicious. My husband got the sopes de res, which he said were delicious. The flavors of each item were very different, and nothing was too spicy (and I am a spice wimp). The plates we saw other diners eating looked amazing, too. Don't be put off by the fact that this is behind a mini mart in an auto repair mall. Eat here! read more

I loove their food, serving size, & taste. I will say it is a small spot so on the weekends we've been twice on we had to wait for a while to be seated & the waiter kept forgetting about us. But honestly the food is the best I've had near Menifee, Glad I found it! Just wish they could work on their attention to customers a bit more.
