Saw that this place had recently opened near where we live and decided to give it a go. Started out ordering drinks - sangria and a pisco sour. Both were fantastic, especially the pisco sour. The frothed egg white on top was perfectly done. For appetizers we ordered the fried calamari and classic ceviche. The sauce combination on the calamari was remarkable and is a must order. The ceviche was so fresh and delicious, would be even better on a hot summer day! Only downside to the ceviche is wish more chips came with it, but I'm sure you can ask for more. We struggled with what to get for dinner because everything on the menu sounded great. We decided on the jerk chicken sandwich and the Birria tacos. Both were very good. The jerk chicken sandwich has a medley of avocado, tomato, cheese, and plantain. Surprisingly, even though not big fans of plantains, they really contributed to making the sandwich better! The Birria tacos were also great, and the stew dipping sauce even better. Wish I had a loaf of bread to dip in it. We finished off with crunchy and buttery churros that I would order every time I go! Solid 4 stars. Located across the street from Supra (Georgian restaurant) in Shaw, Mariscos 1133 literally just opened a few days ago. My friend and I got there around 9:30pm on Saturday and they were able to sit us right away. I'm assuming that was possible since they're brand new because otherwise they're working with a fairly small space. Most of their indoor seating is booths which I love and they also have outdoor seating. They offer a good variety of wines, cocktails, and food items. Another cool thing is they have a full menu dedicated to tequila and mezcal shots. My friend had a beer - Victoria (Mexico) - and I tired The Naked Owl (mezcal based cocktail). The beer was good and my cocktail wasn't too bad, but I didn't love it. When ordering my drink, the server advised me that it's very strong - it was not strong at all! Onto the food now. We shared Ceviche Clásico, Shrimp Aguachile, Tuna Tostadas and Grilled Sugar Cane Shrimp Skewers (that's three appetizers and one entree). Considering that they just opened, I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of it all. Everything tasted fresh and absolutely delicious. I love ceviche and the place I used to get it at in DC closed during the pandemic, but this seems like a good "contender" for a replacement. My favorite was the tuna tostada - crunchy tostada with perfectly seasoned raw tuna mixed with avocado and something that tasted like sriracha mayo - flavor explosion in my mouth. The classic ceviche and shrimp aguachile were also really good, but a bit too salty and spicy for my taste. However, my friend loved every bite of it. The shrimp entree was equally flavorful served with pineapple sauce over rice. As good as it was though, I wouldn't necessarily order it again. I would definitely be open to trying something else off their menu! And for dessert, we had churros. I loved the crunchiness of the churros, but something was missing - maybe because it only came with dulce de leche dip and I prefer chocolate. But no worries, we finished the dessert - no problem! The crispy whole fish is fresh--but it needs something---something other than the side toppings to elevate it a bit. As is, it's just a beautifully presented fried fish. The service is excellent! My my my! The experience we had at Mariscos was amazing! Their food is unlike anything I've experienced in the DMV. There is so much love put into preparing their food and drinks (see pics!). This restaurant is walking distance from the convention center, just 2 blocks away. There are plenty of outdoor seatings. I came on a Saturday morning for early lunch. I ordered a jibarito sandwich and house salad. The sandwich came with French fries. The steak was cooked perfect, medium rare, tender and juicy. The bread was soft on the inside with a crisp thin crust on the outside, served warm. The fries were well done, not too greasy nor too salty. The house salad was fresh and tasty too. . In summary, I really enjoyed my lunch here. The servers were friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable. The portion was just about right. My only complaint is that the service was really slow. I waited for 40min for my food to be served, when there were only 2 other tables of guests.... I guess if I am not on a tight schedule, I would probably come back again. read more

I wish I have known they're brunch was bad so I didn't have to WASTE $40 dollars. $25 for brunch, 6 dollar non alcoholic drink plus taxes and 5 dollar tip. I had huevos rancheros, which had two over cooked eggs on top of two crunchy tortillas with loads of cheese and black beans. My drink was extremely sweet! Only thing that was semi good was service. Food is mediocre. Lots of sauce to mask poor quality seafood. This place is incredible overpriced for the quality and amount of food they serve. My rice was overcooked and it tasted as if they have scrapped from the bottom of the pan. The beer is cheap so that is a plus. read more

What a horrible experience. Waitress took our order and then never put the order in. Then there was a huge argument between the waitresses as to who put the order in. I will never come here again. Then when I asked how long it would take if they still put out order in she said we were 3rd in the queue. I then requested to speak to the manager and she said he was busy and couldn't come over. He finally came over 15 mins later. The best he did was comp us a round of drinks off of our bill but never really made things right. Dude couldn't even look me in the eye. Latin fusion place that is mostly seafood. Portions are really tiny for the price but that's the only way I can fault this place. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. But yeah, I was slightly hungry after my entree which rarely happens, and it was not cheap. I got the grilled shrimp and it was great and I had a bite of the seafood nachos which was also delicious albeit small portions. There other family restaurant is my favorite Mexican food in town (El Sol), so I couldn't wait to try this new spot. We had a lovely and delicious seafood brunch and I can't wait to return. They were kind enough not to rush us out, even though brunch time was over, so we enjoyed brunch cocktails (great Bloody Mary) and entrees which included huevos rancheros and Chile rellenos with a fried egg. We went here for Valentine's day 2023. I am a big fan of seafood and was excited to try this place. They had a fixed menu for the night and while the food was decent, it unfortunately did not sit well with me and I spent my night in the bathroom : . My partner did not have any issues with upset stomach. I think the issue for both of us was slow service. They were unprepared for such a busy night and it was so slow that we asked them to pack our dessert (included in the price) to go. The ambiance was decent. A great option for any meal! We've gone to Mariscos with friends for dinner and brunch - everyone has always left satisfied! Mariscos has a big seafood menu, but has many different tasty options for those looking for something other than fish - for dinner, I opted for the Churrasco; the chimichurri was perfect and had hot peppers, which was a nice touch! The steak was cooked perfectly. The only thing missing were some veggie options. Drinks were tasty and strong! For brunch, Mariscos has great options and is (surprisingly) affordable given it's proximity to downtown. I opted for the Steak and Eggs - hard to pass on that tasty chimichurri! My wife got the breakfast enchiladas; they weren't on the online menu, so a nice surprise when we got to the restaurant. The friends we went with both got the pancake platter, a traditional egg, meat, and pancake option. Service was great both times, even accommodating a toddler with some off menu options. Operations/organization= 2/5 Drinks = 4/5 Food = 6/5 THE BAD: - If you are under a time restriction, DO NOT COME HERE. We sat down at 6:30 and no one came to take our drink order until 7:10. Appetizer took an hour and entree took about 45 mins after finishing the appetizer. We were there over 2 hours and spent maybe 30 mins of that time actually eating. Smh - Whoever is the manager needs to be re-trained so he or she can re-train staff. For example, every table around us, including ours, had a server walk up and try to give them the wrong order. Every table. At least 6 times! It's ridiculous. Also, from where I sat I could see finished dishes just sitting under the heat lamps waiting to be picked up 10 mins at a time at least. The operations/management here is so terrible. I heard many other customers complaining about wait times for food. They are losing out on future customers. That said, the servers were nice, just not terribly attentive because they were overwhelmed. The GOOD: The food. We had the mixed ceviche, flounder, and pork shank. All were outstanding. They don't have a parking lot, so street parking is a must, so I'd definitely recommend giving yourself some time to find parking. Our waiter was really attentive and checked up on us often and gave us a few recommendations himself - such as the crab nachos which were amazing and the calamari that weren't over cooked. everything we got was good. Prices were affordable and portion sizes are big! My friend and I got a pina colada to share, and it was good, and not too overly sweet/sour and alcohol wasn't overbearing. The restaurant is a bit small and the inside is more casual attire. I'm definitely coming back to try the pulpo. read more

We had an 8 o'clock reservation. No one greeted us until about 8:15. We waited until 8:30 for our first round of drinks (beer and wine, not cocktails). We didn't get our entrees until after 9. We were seated upstairs, where we had never sat before, despite several tables being available in the downstairs dining room. Initially, we were seated in a booth right under a speaker playing music so loud that we couldn't even have a conversation. We asked to move to another booth and we were seated in a windowless part of the room. The room was painted black, so we felt like we were in a hole. Additionally, there was only one server working the upstairs dining room who was also bussing tables. She bussed several tables where the patrons had gotten up and left before coming to greet us, which was frustrating. The dining room was not very busy while we were there. Finally, I went to use the restroom toward the end of the meal. They are single use, gender neutral restrooms. One of the restrooms was locked, so I knocked and pushed open the ajar door next to it, where a man was urinating. He had not shut the door all the way, let alone did he bother locking it. He laughed -- I was disgusted. Since the service was so slow upstairs, we finished our last round of drinks at the bar downstairs, where the creep I was exposed to was sitting at a table that had been available when we arrived at the restaurant at 8. He kept turning around and looking at me, which was incredibly disturbing and uncomfortable. I suppose the silver lining here is that he was a patron and not an employee of the restaurant. On top of everything, there was a 20 percent service fee. I generally don't have a problem with this, but including an automatic tip for a terrible experience is unfair. While we love the food at Mariscos, we won't be going back. read more

I will start with positive things. This is definitely an attempt for author version of pan-Latin seafood fusion city bistro,flavors are distinctive in every single dish. Service is fast,really impersonal and indifferent,but fast. Seafood is fresh,real crabmeat and lobster pieces in everything. Now to negatives. Portions are mostly small,air conditioning is very poor and it's uncomfortably warm and you don't want it in the seafood restaurant where raw oysters are served. I had ceviche vuelve a la vida,and it seems pretty and it comes with two fresh oysters,but my oysters were wrongfully shocked and I scratch the gum with small piece of shell. This is big no-no for seafood restaurant,atmosphere is nonexistent because of shabby interior and bad service. During whole dinner nobody asked us do we like the food or no,how it was,or can I get you something else.I was given no chance to share problems with oysters shell or anything. A friend and checked out this restaurant's extensive restaurant week lunch choices. It is a small restaurant in a residential neighborhood. We had a table outside under an awning. The waitress was great. They use a waitress and a separate food server system. Once the food arrived, the waitress disappeared. The appetizer of seviche was excellent: I would go back for that. The entree of blackened shrimp tacos is a foodborne illness waiting to happen. Plus it was tiny-- four small tacos with a few shrimp. The WORST PART WAS MY SHRIMP WAS RAW-- not even ceviche style. Had the privilege of finding Mariscos this last weekend. I hardly know where to start... The restaurant itself is not large, which in fact gives it a warm feel. Comfortable booths and a few tables. Clean and kept very well.  Members of the staff were remarkably friendly.  Had the feeling like we were having dinner with family.  Was honored to meet Jessica and Alfredo Solis who were busy working in the open kitchen creating their masterpieces.   They took time to visit briefly and were humble in response to our accolades.  The food...Oh My Gosh! Truly homecooking in a restaurant!  We had Mussels ala Mexicana, Mariscos Duo A La Diabla, crispy Oysters Tacos, Crispy Mahi Mahi Tacos and Yuca Fries. EVERYTHING WAS OVER THE TOP!!!  We all are frequent world travelers and agree that this was the very best meal we have had in years!  Everything was cooked to perfection and the sauces were divine!  For drinks we had Margaritas de Casas, Mojitos and Caipirinhas, all extremely well poured and tasty! This place was amazing from start to finish. We arrived around 4:30 and the place was empty. The place inside is small but cozy. Very modern coastal feel. We loved having it all to ourselves. The passion fruit margarita was tart and refreshing; definitely get it with the chili lime salt. The calamari appetizer was bomb. Each bite combined with the sauce and pickled red onions was *chefs kiss*. My Cubano husband couldn't resist getting the Campensino. The steak was tender and juicy and the chorizo was so flavorful. 4.5 The food itself is five stars. Between three people we ordered the calamari, crispy oysters, cubano sandwich with yucca fries, and lomo saltado. I think you can skip on the crispy oysters because they were TINY but I highly recommend everything else. I really liked the calamari and the sauce that came with it! Everything was super flavorful and the portion sizes were decent. We also ordered drinks. They are pretty affordable for the DC area. The paloma was good but we also ordered margs and it was veryyy weak. Basically tasted like juice. This place just opened so things were packed. The outdoor seating was only half covered and only half the seats had heaters next to them but that shouldn't be an issue as it gets warmer out these days.
