This place is nestled on a street corner and it's great for people watching. Let me just say we had a very large party and this restaurant was able to accommodate us. Our server did a great job accommodating such a large group. There was an issue where someone in my party ordered the oysters. I absolutely love them and they are incredible. However when it was time to place an actual food order many of us opted to just have the oysters. After placing the oyster order, the server came back and said that the oysters that they have are about half the size of the ones that were previously ordered and asked if we would like to continue to place the order. I asked if we could have more oysters in lieu of that and initially the server told us no. The server then came back and told us that we could have two additionally of which we obliged. The oysters again the taste is absolutely phenomenal. I would say the Spanish rice is very bland and lacks flavor. The barisco breeze is an incredible beverage if you want a mocktail! Also a greatttt appetizer is the shrimp aguachile! I would absolutely recommend this location and the food is very affordable as well. read more

Seafood croquettes....The only seafood presence and taste of seafood in the seafood croquettes was the salmon on top. This dish was bland. The shrimp alambre flavors were good. A bit oily. It was served with rice, black beans, sauted peppers, onions, with sides of Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Sour Cream & Flour Tortillas. The rice and beans were delicious. I'll be honest -- I didn't have much hope for this place because I'm a graphic design snob and the menu looks like it was slapped together in Microsoft Word. But I was very impressed with the food! Me & my friends went here for DC Winter Restaurant Week. After performing extensive research, it was the only brunch I researched that was bottomless for the food & drinks with a steal of a price point. Pretty much everything we had were very delicious. Unfortunately, the service was a bit slow because so many people where there & likely caught wind of the brunch prices. My personal favorites were the birrias, shrimp aguachile, and the guacamole + chips. I do think they could have given more chips too. As far as the drinks go, the Sangria was the BEST! I think the ambiance is pretty casual so I wouldn't come there super dressed up. I could see this being a great brunch spot in the summer. I would definitely recommend coming here (at least at 12pm) but when it's not restaurant week weekend. I feel like I was eating seafood before I was saying my first words so only fair for me to comment - starting with the top dish of the evening we have the classic ceviche. I absolutely refuse to eat octopus after we learned that they're like smarter than every republican in the nation so I went for the classic choice. this was delicious. the perfect texture, not fishy at all somehow creamy yet tangy. came with homemade blue corn chips - next we got the calamari. this was definitely a 10 out of 10 in terms of presentation. however, it was a bit overcooked. When it comes to calamari, you have to master the perfect ratio, and if you overcook it, you're gonna really have to make the breading the most deliciously seasoned if I'm chewing it for 94 years - we finished it out with the Caesar salad. again, the presentation was glorious, but the ingested product was not that great. loved the actual anchovies in the dish and it was a good dressing, but it was probably five leaves and then three pieces of prosciutto that just did not go with the flavors. - the atmosphere was bright and lively. we had to move tables because we were sat towards the back and actually unable to breathe through all of the smoke. you don't wanna be coughing between bites. I walk by this place all the time and j finally decided to stop in for a bite to eat, and I was not disappointed. The only reason I'm doing four instead of five star is I wish the bartender would have told me that what I ordered wasn't a good food pairing. Both the wings and the ceviche were delicious, but the spice of the wings did not pair well with the citrus of the ceviche. My mouth was on fire. More of a me thing but I like an outspoken server. The wings were crispy, and filled with flavor. They are paired with cucumber which really softens the punch on the spice. The ceviche was good as well, but I have had better. Mariscos has defy earned a spot on my list of favorite brunch spots. I had a great time with a highlight being the staff. They were so welcoming, kind and attentive (shoutout to Alan for his great service). One thing I also enjoyed is the menu offers a variety of food options and bottomless drink options too. It's nice to have options outside of mimosas and as a fan of sangria and margaritas- it was perfect. They also kept the drinks and food coming without super long wait times. We love Mariscos! The food was overall great (again)! I had the birria tacos and loved them. My husband had the grilled platter of steak and seafood. The reason I am docking a star is that the chips for the guac were stale, which was a bummer. Some of them were fine but some were not crunchy or crisp. Also the ceviche was so incredibly sour that my husband had painful salivary glands afterwards for like an hour. That was strange! And we love ceviche normally. I would say that we will still come back and will still recommend this restaurant to others. There were just those two negative things of note from this past experience. They had a lot of different options from ceviche to shrimp quesadillas to steak and eggs. I loved the seafood here which is what they're known for. The aguachile and ceviche were fresh and the aguachile had an herby freshness and good kick. The calamari was good and was paired with a chipotle aioli that had a nice kick. My favorites were all the shrimp dishes like the shrimp aguachile and shrimp quesadillas while my miss was the steak and eggs. The service was pretty slow with everything going on. read more

Been here twice now and can't believe we haven't written a review! Anyway, was introduced to this place by a friend who was raving about the birria tacos. And we must say, these are delicious! We know a thing a two about birria tacos and these really do rival the ones found in our hometown which is very surprising. This place is great happy hour or to start off your night as you go explore the town. During happy hour, you get two birria tacos while the full priced menu will get you three. We also got the mariscos duo a la diabla. This dish includes grilled octopus, grilled scallops, rice and rapini. Though this dish is good, we prefer our octopus to be a bit more charred but that doesn't mean the dish isn't tasty. In this case, we probably could have just gotten more tacos! Definitely a hidden gem thay would recommend to anyone who is out in the area. It has already proven to be a place that we'll always visit when we come out to DC. read more

I stopped by Mariscos for a quick and was quite surprised by the seafood brunch options. I dunno, I always thought it was strange to combine seafood/shellfish with breakfast items, but it works. For our dining pleasure, we started out with a couple of appetizers: the Ceviche Vuelve la Vida and the Oysters al Carbón con Crab Meat (I had to double check that I wrote 'carbón' instead of cabrón). Both dishes were great although the ceviche was a bit too 'soupy' for me. I was quite intrigued by the oysters appetizer because oysters combined with parmesan cheese does not seem like a great combination, but it works at Mariscos 1133. For my main dish, I went with the huevos rancheros, which was very filling. I definitely recommend going with that if you are extremely hungry and want a breakfast item. I really appreciated that all of the our food items were perfectly spiced. If you are very sensitive to spicy food, you might want to see if the kitchen could use less heat. I thought the prices were fine for both the area and the food portions. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not have a bottomless adult beverage deal like other restaurants offering brunch in the area. Overall, I thought the service was great. Be aware that the restaurant will include a tip for on all checks. However, you are more than welcome to add more tip if you feel like it. read more

I'd say between 3.5 - 4 stars. I went to Mariscos 1133 last night with a friend. We didn't realize it but it was 50% off bottles of wine (Wednesday night), which was a nice bonus and we were able to enjoy a great bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. It's a small space, but nicely decorated and I love any place where I can sit in a spacious booth. We were very close to the open kitchen but didn't hear any noise from it. We started with the Queso Fundido Oaxaqueno, which came out wrapped in corn and was served with some great sauces/salsas and blue corn tortillas. It is one of those dishes that if you don't eat it right away, it clumps up....but that didn't stop us from eating it throughout our meal. And we ate it throughout our. meal because our entrees came out almost instantly after the queso did. It would have been nice to have some time to enjoy the queso before we also had our entrees on the table. My friend had the Grilled Sugar Cane Skewered shrimp and she loved it. I had the Shrimp Alambre, which were essentially shrimp fajitas, which always works for me. Everything was good but I will say the black beans were SUPER salty. The food was fresh and I enjoyed my meal but I don't know if it's some place I'd need to return in the future. read more

Having worked in the area for over 20 years, I was somewhat surprised to find Mariscos this past week. Nestled quietly on a corner in the Shaw area, Maroscos looks and feels like a casual neighborhood restaurant. And it was! And that's a very good things. Not crowded with tourists or conventioneers, this establishment felt homey and relaxed. While did bring a medium size group from work , it had a vibe that allowed for conversation. The menus was a well curated selection of true Mexican seafood, with a sampling of "carnes" for those who prefer that protein. At a table of 9 we had a variety of plates ordered and everyone was quite pleased with their selections Personally I had the grilled octopus and scallops "a diabla". Both the octopus and scales were cooked well / not over done at all. However the sauce, while tasty, was a little rich for the seafood. I would have preferred something a little different, but that's a personal al preference, not a slight on the restaurant All in all, Mariscos was a little gem in the area.
