I had called another plumber to get a second opinion and he was able to figure out what was wrong with it in minutes. I reached out to big Apple plumbing to see if they would be able to refund me due to them not being able to figure out the issue and me having to call someone else. They told me they were unable to give me a refund because 1. I did not call them back if the problem continued- I called someone else for a second opinion. 2. The receipt that I had from the other plumber did not have his business address on it. 3. They are also claiming that they had advised me to change the thermostat, which they never did.

While the outcome wasn't what I had hoped for, I acknowledge that drain issues can be complex and not always straightforward. Thank you for your time and effort.

Got a call back very quickly saying they were on their way and would arrive in about an hour. Anthony arrived with another gentleman, Dom, on time and they patiently listened while I explained what was going on and what I tried. Anthony told me they'd first try to snake the drain and if that didn't work, there was another procedure with a water jet. I appreciated him being upfront about the fact that the first thing they would try may not work in order to set expectations. Decided to go with the snaking and Anthony let me know the price and proceeded to do the work. They were very thorough, spending about an hour working on it and testing it. By the end of the snaking, everything was working without an issue! Throughout the work, Anthony and Dom were extremely pleasant. They took extra care to ask if it was okay to move things onto the counter or if I wanted any extra protection on the floor. The great work, attention to detail, and general pleasantness mean I'll be calling Downtown Plumbing anytime I need a plumber.

Richard Haviland is a rare find. I needed a plumber to do some work in Brooklyn, but I did not have…read morethe time or resources to go to Brooklyn to find one. So, of course, I went to the web, Craigslist in particular, wading through a lot of ads and promo-posts that looked suspect at best and downright deceitful at worst. I was beginning to get worried when something about Richard's post caught my eye. I can't even tell you what it was to this day; it wasn't flashy or bombastic - maybe that's what it was, who knows. But something made me call him - and so far he has turned out to be the best tradesman I have had going into that building on a regular basis. He investigates the problem, gets in touch with me to review the details, we settle on a cost - always reasonable - and a course of action, and he gets the job done, letting me know the final bill. Work's done, tenants are happy and all is right with the world. He is a man of his word. And did I mention that I have yet to meet him face to face? That's right - we've been working together now for almost a year, and he and I have been nothing more than voices on the phone to each other with a little bit of cellphone technology mixed in. Sure, I have a guy in the building who works as a go-between for the residents and for followups. But Richard and I have been operating on a virtual handshake for almost a year now, and more than once he has shown himself to be not only a very good plumber, but a man with integrity and a compassionate heart. I am very fortunate to have come across his post in Craigslist. I know exactly What led me to him! And I just want to make that known to anyone else who needs some plumbing work done in Brooklyn and would like to deal with a real decent human being. Thanks a lot, Richard!
