He showed up right on time and was extremely respectful and knowledgeable. Allard is very detail oriented and his repair work is impeccable!!! This is the 3rd or 4th time I have hired him - after my first experience with him, I was pleased - BUT I couldn't find his number - then I made the mistake of looking in the phonebook for a contractor. BAD choice. Once I located Allards info again, I made sure to NEVER lose it. It's hard to find a reliable contractor these days - but with my dealings with Allard (The owner), I not only found a reliable contractor, I found one that does IMPECCABLE work! If you are looking for bids for any repairs or you just want to hire someone you know will do an awesome job - do yourself a favor, just call Allard. All of your worries will be over!! (To bad 5 stars is the highest rating, I would've given him more!!!)

I got an interesting PM from Allard Parfitt after my review here on Yelp. It departs notably from…read morehis comment on my first review (below). Among other things, he spoke of how his free estimates are not free of cost to him - the implied message being that its okay if he doesn't show-up for those estimates, or return phone calls regarding them. He closed by pointing out that I "owe him the courtesy of a response." Perhaps I do. So to that end, this update. Re the Free-Estimate Thing: Allard, I understand that you offer free estimates as a courtesy to potential clients, and I understand that such a policy contains hidden costs for you. But that does not absolve you of responsibility for showing-up at those estimates, or barring that, calling the client and notifying him that you won't be there. Its an issue of professionalism, not the economics of the policy itself. Re the Courtesy Comment: It perplexes me that you bring up what courtesies you're entitled to when our primary issue is that you were a no-show, no call. A little courtesy from you would have spared us both this whole ordeal - all that was required was a brief phone call from you: "Sorry, Man. I've thought about it and it doesn't look like I'll be able to take the job at your place. Best of luck finding another repairman." That's it. Other reviewers have had the same no show, no call problems with you, Allard. I recommend that you pick up the phone and communicate with your clients and potential clients a little more . . . just a suggestion.

Job: replace rotting wood siding on the front of home with james hardie siding…read more Found DOM thru the hardie website - DOM was listed as an official installer. When I called I talked to Peter who is the same person listed on the business license. This was the type of small company I was looking for. A company that knows their job but I do not have to pay the overhead of an executive staff and marketing. Peter showed up when he said, gave an excellent quote, clearly knew Hardie board as well as any other company I talked with. After getting the permit he was on the job almost exactly when he said he would. My take on his crew was that they are all friends. They work well together. Tear off was fast and installing the "body" hardieboard was quite fast. Most of the time was spent in prep - adding underlayment, flashing, paper & caulking. I was very impressed watching the attention to detail. When installing the siding they made suggestions but never pushed. I asked them to do our columns with a bit more detail which I knew would take more time. They did it with no hesitation and they came out beautifully. They cleaned up the job site each day. When doing tear off they filled their truck each day to remove debris quickly. Small Con: in the quote for the work they asked for a large downpayment. My understanding is calif only allows up to $1K as a downpayment. I emailed and suggested a pay as you go structure and DOM was happy to work with that so it became a nonissue.

Five big stars for Blyss Construction…read more Having had our homeowner's insurance cancelled (after 18 years with Travelers - thanks!), we decided to have our sided replaced with Hardie Board. After receiving an astronomical quote from a local contractor, I went to the Hardie website to request bids. Three highly-rated firms reached out to me within 24 hours, and all three came onsite within a week to scope the project and provide an estimate. As they were all recommended by Hardie, I was impressed with the knowledge that each estimator demonstrated. But Alex from Blyss really stood out. He shared knowledge and pictures from projects that were similar to ours. Blyss also had the highest ratings on Google and Yelp. It also helped that his bid was very competitive. Alex was extremely responsive to questions - in fact, one theme with Blyss is that they were lightning-quick to respond to inquiries, day or not, weekdays and weekends. While Alex said that they were running projects about 3 weeks out, I asked whether they could start sooner, given the oncoming "Super El Nino." Alex made it happen - we signed the contract on a Friday and Blyss arrived with a full crew on Monday. I think we got a little lucky, but this became typical of our experience with Blyss. Everybody with whom we engaged was incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, and aiming to please. The team arrived between 7 AM and 8 AM every day. Every crew member worked hard throughout the day to advance the project. I want to particular call out the Project Manager, Nazar, and his foreman, David. They answered questions knowledgably and made sure that we understood everything about the project. Despite the scale and complexity of the project, they were essentially done in two weeks, coming to finish last touches on a Saturday. When inspecting the work, we came up with a small punchlist of items that we weren't satisfied with. They came out for one final day to complete all of those without any pushback. This is a 5-star experience. The biggest plus for Blyss is the trust they inspired. I never felt at risk of being ripped off or receiving sub-standard work. There were no hidden surprises - just a hardworking, knowledgeable, and affordable company doing great work.
