From there we got back on the bus and went down to Capri where we were taken on lemoncello tasting, chocolate tasting and some other goodies. From there we went to the Augustus Gardens which were absolutely beautiful. A little more shopping, back on the bus to the ferry and back to mainland with wonderful memories. I spoke to Shana and she was straightforward, helpful, and priced fairly. She arranged for a boat to pick us up from lunch/beach at Griglio di Tiberio and take us to the grottos. I wish I had done this INSTEAD of taking a tour on one of the boats with other people. Since we had 8 in our party, it made much more sense to have a private captain (Capitan Enzo was friendly and relaxed - a good driver on a fast boat) who took us to all the grottos (Blue Grotto was closed that day). It seems all the bad reviews are because people are saying they thought the Blue Grotto was included in the €23, but it clearly says that it's a separate purchase at the site, when you are buying the tickets. We went at the beginning of April and it was the first tour of the day, so we didn't have the peak summer tourist wait experience that a lot of the reviews say. We got to the meeting point at 9:20 for the 9:45 tour. We decided to purchase tickets on site instead of online because there's a chance you won't go to the Blue Grotto based on the weather conditions that day. If you buy online and the Blue Grotto trip is canceled, you can't get a refund - but you can move the ticket to another day. But we had a tight schedule and there was only one day we could go to Capri, so we decided it was best to buy on site. The tour takes you around Capri, including the Faraglioni (the famous rocks), then to Blue Grotto, and back to the meeting point. We decided to just get off after the Blue Grotto and take the bus back into the other side of town, since that's where we wanted to go anyway. This saved us probably 1-2 hours of time. Overall, the tour itself was just okay but most importantly, it got us where we needed to go, and we saw what we wanted to see. So if you're strapped in time in Capri, this is a great option for you. Tip - people basically bum rushed us to get to the top level of the boat. We ended up sitting on the first level on the left side in the front, which is outdoors, so you still get great views. When it was time to transfer boats to get to the Blue Grotto, it just so happened that we got to get off first because that's where the ladder was. So the people who bum rushed us at the beginning ended up being last in line and probably had to wait at least half an hour. So it looks like we got the last laugh.

We called him back and he said he would make sure we were able to sail around Capri and he checked in with us EVERYDAY. It was time for us to leave to Positano but we actually came back on our 2nd to last day in Italy to take our trip! Marco was our tour guide/boat captain and he is great! He's young, I forgot what he said around 23/24 but he's fantastic and super knowledgable. He somehow convinced my normally reserved husband to jump off the cliff into the water. It was such a memorable moment!! We did the private tour which was right around 4 hours. The boat had clean towels, prosecco, water, soda and we had brought some snacks for ourselves. Bring sunscreen & a hat! Capri Whales is located by the marina when you get off your ferry from Naples/Positano/Wherever. They have a cute dog name CJ and he is usually sitting outside. If you are afraid of the language barrier, Wendy and her family are actually from CT so she speaks english perfectly.

Even for 10am, it was still quite busy on the dock. We should have stayed on the island of Capri. We paid €18 per person and were told which dock to wait at. Easy process to board the boat. There was a decent amount of people onboard, with an entertaining navigator who made many "interesting" jokes throughout the tour. Apparently it was his first time sailing solo, and I thought he did a good job. We went around the whole island of Capri, in awe at its stunning beauty. Pictures don't do it justice, but I attempted taking videos anyways. Finally we came upon the Blue Grotto (last stop) where it was insanely crowded at high tide... too busy to actually go in. The second half of our ticket was to get on ANOTHER boat for the Blue Grotto tour, which wasn't communicated to us until we were actually looking at the landmark. Kinda frustrating since we went through all this trouble. We didn't feel like waiting 3-4 hours to MAYBE get into the Blue Grotto. Instead we did other tourist things and told ourselves we'd stay on Capri next time and spend more time exploring the island. Everything is absolutely beautiful, and we had a positive experience. It was just blindsiding NOT to do the tour we were looking forward to all week!

Though I made that sound pretty terrifying, it seems relatively safe. As long as you're not shifting about while you're up there, which you probably wouldn't want to anyway. Seats are for single riders, unless you have a small child, in which case, they'll have to sit on your lap. Tickets are €11 one way or €14 round trip. But I can't imagine why you would buy a one way. Perhaps you can hike up/down? But I didn't see anyone doing that. It takes about 7 minutes each way, and we spent maybe 30 minutes at the top taking pictures/walking around. There is a little cafe at the top, and a toilet but it costs €1. If you want to see Capri from way up above, this is the thing to do!
