The best way to visit here is to take a ferry from nearby cities such as Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, etc. Otherwise you'll spend close to 1.5 hours driving through some winding and hairpin turns from the nearest airport in Naples. The beach is located about 250 ft. below the closest road that allows cars, so expect to do a lot of hiking as you navigate your way through the tiny pedestrian only streets visiting shops, restaurants, and cafes. Parking is impossible here! Most of the beach here is private, so expect to spend 25 euros to rent a tiny sunbed packed in tightly next to some stranger. The small portion of the beach that is public is filled tightly with tourists marking their spot with a beach towel. The beach itself has tiny pebbles, so be sure to wear water shoes. During the day this place is packed with day trippers visiting. HOWEVER, from the early evening till mid morning you will have the place to yourself and enjoy this natural beauty. I highly recommend renting a boat on the pier and taking it out for a few hours to enjoy the blue waters and gorgeous views. That's the best way to experience this place! Overall I was really impressed the with the beauty of Positano. Such a fun place to visit with gorgeous views, great weather and beautiful crystal clear blue waters. Expect to pay high prices for restaurants and hotels here and dealing with crowds during the day. I definitely can see why the Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful places to visit on the planet!

It is located down past the restaurants and public part of the beach and easy to spot by the rows of yellow and orange striped umbrellas. Such picturesque surroundings, it is great to relax, stroll and take some great pictures. You can swim as well as long as you were some kind of footwear as it is very pebbly. Beach is full of restaurants, local art shops, Gelatos and many more. Almost all the beach is private except the tiny part which they say 'public beach'. The view of Positano city with Dome is magnificent. And yes it is always full of tourists.

We had looked at the menu and decided that we would have a few drinks and nothing else. The server was upset, he told us we each had to order one meal. And accused us of trying to get free bread and olive oil. He said if I would have known you were only getting drinks I would have told you we are closed! He insisted we must order meals or his manager would be upset. I asked to speak to the manager, as we where not going to eat anything else on the menu. The server kept insisting we order, that we where being rude by not ordering food. I apologized and said we were not hungry and that we would be happy to pay for the bread and olive oil. We told him we where not trying to get anything free, and happy to pay for anything we ate and drank. The manager was never called to our table and we were given the check after much argument from the server. It was the worst experience I have had in a restaurant while traveling abroad. It was a decent walk down a path to get to the inlet and you have to walk down a pretty steep set of stairs to get down to the water but boy is it worth it! I'd recommend water shoes as the rocks are slick. You can swim around or lounge on rocks. There were probably about a dozen people while we were there in April. There's lots of nearby walking paths full of wildflowers and some ruins. I could have packed a lunch and spent all day here and in the surrounding hiking spots. Beautiful views of Mt Vesuvius across the water.

GORGEOUS & BEAUTIFUL - Totally worth the short hike to the bay…read more We stayed in Praiano so we took a bus to Sorrento and then another bus to Nerano. Was prob. about a two hour trip each way. Once you get off the bus stop in Nerano (stop should be in front of Olga's Residence), look for the signs that point to Baia di Ieranto. Its a slight uphill hike of about 45 minutes or so. There's a sign about mid way through your hike that says for the bay turn right..for something else (sorry i forget), turn left. Turn left. This will take you to the bay and it is less steep. We went in October 2016 and apparently there was a fire which closed the route there. When we asked around locals didn't seem to think it was a big deal. There was some fire damage but if you're careful, the hike is very do-able. It was a bit raining when we went so the bay was basically empty. Loved it!!!!!

The ferries and large boats go to Marina Piccola. Marina Grande is where we met our captain for our boat tour to the Amalfi Coast and where a lot of other groups were launching from. The marina itself was easier to get to that I thought. The decline was gentle on our knees. The incline, heading back to our Airbnb, is actually quite kinder than I thought while I was going down and it wasn't too hard for someone like me, who isn't fit at all, to make it. Add, being in the sun, on a boat all day and I'd say it was almost easy, so no worries if you have any. There are stunning views from this marina and quite a few restaurants and bars to hang out at. The best part for me was the metal dock that you can walk out onto and see Marina Piccola. You can also look down into the crystal clear water. Just lovely!

This was the best use of 20 euro that I spent during my two week trip to Italy…read more Bagni d' Arienzo is an absolutely gorgeous private beach club. It's less crowded and more secluded than the main beach club in Positano. We happened to be staying across the road which was lucky. If not, the beach club actually has a boat that will ferry you over from the main Positano area. The space isn't huge, so be sure to make a reservation in advance. In addition to reserving a chair you can also reserve a time slot to have lunch at the restaurant. 20 euro gets you a chair with a sun shade, a towel and an umbrella. We got there early and had first pick at a seat. If you can, I suggest doing the same. It was really nice to have views of the ocean (instead of another chair) in front of us. But honestly, the beach is so beautiful that there really isn't a bad seat anywhere. A chair also includes waitress service. There is an extensive drink menu with tons of cocktails, spritzes, wines, beers, frozen drinks and smoothies. Prices are very reasonable for a beach club -- cocktails are around 10 and bottles of wine 20. We weren't expecting much for lunch but the restaurant was actually phenomenal. The grilled octopus came with a huge portion and was super fresh. The ravioli pomodoro was perfectly al dente and stuffed with a delicious ricotta cheese. The grilled eggplant was simple and cooked in flavorful olive oil. Lunch was also fairly priced, and service was fast. The seats also overlook the water, so it's a beautiful and relaxing dining setting. Two people can walk away after a full day of fun and sun, eat and drink well, and spend not much over 100 euro. I strongly suggest making sure that your Positano itinerary includes a day to spend relaxing at Bagni. You won't regret it.

The water is oh so clear, but with every good, comes with the bad: rocks! And lots of them! Just…read moremake sure you wear flip flops or water shoes because there are pebbles and rocks everywhere. Very limited where you can put your towel down to lay out for a quick tan and remember what I said about rocks? Yea, you'll be laying on it too. Don't worry, there are many others doing the same thing and you get maybe a half inch away from your neighbor. There's a few restaurants, but of course, we're still in Italy, which means they charge a sitting fee. Boo. Capri is such a little town so you can catch a taxi to go into town for more shopping, but the line was so long, I rather lay on rocks than to stand around and hope that my cab gets me back in time before my tour guide leaves me. I booked a tour through my hostel (hostel of the sun) and was able to get on the trip next day! Went to see the blue grotto today and it's nothing like I've ever seen before. Actually, I'm lying. It's exactly what it looks like in the travel magazines you see on the newsstand or airplane magazines! The pictures advertised show that an actually boat is in the cove, but you actually have to swim inside.
