Dr. Kay is a kind and very generous person. She has helped me through several years of economic hardship; she would never, I think, deny someone the care they need because of an inability to pay. She'll move heaven and earth, in my experience, to provide care. I want to give her 5 stars because the quality of her care is continually the highest achievable, but I was disappointed when I finally agreed to an appointment last year, during the height of the pandemic. Although she, her hygienist, and I were all fully vaccinated, we all know that extra care continues to be required to protect each other. I did not find all the precautionary measures in place, which not only disappointed me, it actually shocked me! She did not wear a face shield but a simple, nonsurgical mask; what got to me was that her assistant was about to put her gloved hands, which she'd been using on implements in another part of the room, into my mouth. I'd expected so much more vigilance than I experienced. She apologized, but for me the damage was done. I've been seeing Dr. Kay for over 3 years and she has always been kind and thorough with my cleanings. Her assistant Anna knows me by sight and is very professional. Both have gone out of their way to accommodate me when I had a weird schedule that required last minute appointment changes. I was in a lot of pain when I first went to see Dr. Kay. Had early stage TMJ that she diagnosed (eating, kissing were both hard on my jaw, no fun) and she fitted me for a special appliance that I wear at night. It's just a tiny little piece of plastic. My pain is completely gone. Said I could have completely eroded or cracked one of my teeth if I had waited. It cost $600 but will last me the rest of my life, and Dr. Kay did 2 free refittings and a free refinishing when I accidentally cleaned it with alcohol and ruined it. I made appointment here after finding her name on BCBS website for participating dentists and asking if they took my insurance, which is BCBS dental, where an exam is covered. When I got to office they stated I would have to pay for dental exam in amount of $160. They were clearly trying to work around the insurance even though they are a BCBS participating doctor. I called BCBS customer service and had a three way call and Kay's office agreed they were participating and they would not charge before exam. They made a new appointment. When we hung up, they called back and said that the dentist is not taking new patients with my insurance- when clearly on the website there is a bright green check next to "accepting new patients." Not only are they liars, they can't be bothered with hitting a few keys on their computer. Do you really want these people working on your mouth? read more

Dr. Kay has been my dentist for over 15 years and I couldn't be happier with her expertise and service. I am satisfied with all the work she has done including my crowns, bone graft, implant surgery, and extractions. I also had a stain on my tooth that she took care of with microabraision. I must emphasize the professionalism of Dr. Kay and her dental assistant Anna. Anna is a registered dental assistant who makes everything much easier from appointments, to clinical services and even billing. She spent maybe 5 minutes cleaning my teeth and 10 minutes asking me "are you OK" during the session. Seems like she was rushing through the session even though I was the only patient in the office from beginning to end. She takes insurance. I've been with Dr. Kay for more than 15 years. If you are looking for a chatting friend, she may not be a good candidate. But, she is taking her patients seriously and honest about every problems and conditions. She did great job on crowns and fillings and she does it all by herself. (I've been with other dentist and most of the works were done by their technicians). For me, professional, skill and quality of work are more important and talking. In the last few years, I moved further away from her office, but I'd rather drive 40 minutes each way to see her than go to another dentist. read more

Dr. Kay is s great dentist! She has pulled 2 of my wisdom teeth and I had very minimal pain. After the appointments I slept all day on pain meds & the next morning I was good as new with no pain. She's also done a microbrasion with deep bleaching to remove a yellow spot from one of my front teeth. Now my teeth are beautiful & healthy. She has Saturday appointments, up to date fancy equipment, payment plans for services, and great bedside manner. This is a little overdue. Dr. Marie Kay redefines exceptional service and a quality dentist. I lost my job in the recession and was out of work for over 3 years. A real long time without dental insurance and trips to the dentist. Fortunately only 1 near term issue and she referred me to another dentist for a root canal. That went smoothly. Dr. Kay did the crown and that was perfect. Her assistant, Anna, is very professional and on top of things. My wife and our son go here as well and we're all happy. They're very close to the Tenleytown metro stop and Wisconsin/River Road(s). Their office is clean and they have very modern technology. I'm lucky to have discovered her. She's amazing. Dr. Kay's service was hurried and careless. At both of my most recent cleanings, the staff rushed me in and rushed me out of the office without conducting a thorough cleaning. I would not recommend Dr. Kay for general dentistry. read more

Marie Kay is very thorough and professional. I was especially impressed with her ability to use technology since she is an "older" experienced dentist. Everything is digital and modern in her office. She shows me my digital x-rays on one of the plasma screens to explain what is going on. She truly cares about your dental health. She is friendly and empathetic. Her sing songy, "very nice, okayyy, you are doing wonderful..." makes me smile inside (my mouth can't smile while she's in there). I've tried many dentists and have had at least 5 dentists I didn't like... I'm picky and I really like Dr. Kay. I have had deep gingival cleaning, two fillings and cleanings done by her. She was also impressed with what my prosthodondist did with my tooth implant and wanted the name so that she could refer her other patients to someone she trusted. Okay I'm afraid of the dentist but I needed to find a dentist with good reviews I did a ton of internet research reading reviews and then I choose Dr. Kay. Dr. Kay and her assistant Anna are such sweeties. They are both gentle which is what I needed because my mouth was "A HOT MESS" all through the process Dr. Kay explained what was needed and asked me ever 2 minutes was I ok while she was working on me. She made me feel important. I'm so thankful to find a female doctor who is gentle and cares about you as a person. She did have to refer me to an Endodontic Dentist in DC please feel free to read my review on him. To wrap it up Dr. Kay has a soft touch, considerate, professional and clean; she has the latest technology equipment, her practice is a boutique style and because she specializes in the aesthetics as well as general dentistry you can't go wrong. read more

Dr. Kay is amazing! We took my son to her because we were concerned that one of his permanent teeth wasn't coming in. She took x-rays and determined that there just wasn't enough room for the permanent tooth to enter and that this wasn't just the case for this tooth but for the last few permanent teeth waiting to come in. She explained that in order for his teeth to come in we had to make room for his remaining permanent teeth and that meant braces for 3 years! Well, it worked - Dr. Kay took the braces off and his teeth are beautifully aligned. Now all that's left is the retainer for a few months but only at night. We are thrilled with the results and my son is smiling again! read more
