Having not been to the dentist in many years, there were a lot of things that were wrong with my teeth. After taking an x-ray and evaluating my teeth, Baird took care all of these issues smoothly including 3 fillings and deep cleaning. He was kind, professional, explained everything and was very accommodating (especially while I was nervous) and patient. It was for the most part comfortable and painless. The regular cleaning technician on site was good, a bit uncomfortable without using any anesthetic but bearable. They even showed me before and after photos. I could not believe how bad my teeth were. He also recommended a surgeon for my wisdom teeth as he recommended that it was best to get them removed. Wait times and scheduling were good. I would definitely recommend this dental practice. I'm glad I went when I did, I would have definitely ran into some problems down the line if I didn't. read more

I agree with the review below. Solid choice, no frills. I never have to wait more than two minutes, and the billing is always perfect. Dr. Baird is professional, nice, gets in and out quickly. I suspect he jots things down on his chart to ask me about next time I'm in so he can pretend he remembered me; I suppose that is nice? One of the hygienists is a bit militant and brusque. She had no sympathy on my first visit when I was gagging on the x-ray trays she jammed in my mouth. But I kept going back out of laziness and now I just feel abused but exceptionally clean-mouthed when I leave. read more

So, I have really terrible teeth. Terrible. Shameful. It's one of the big embarrassments of my life. As a result, I have huge, horrible anxiety issues with the dentist. I told Dr. Baird this -- whilst crying -- and he couldn't have been nicer. He calmly and gently helped me come up with a plan, explained a lot of the hows and whys of appropriate dental hygiene, and was never rude or judgey. My cleaning was a little bit rough -- but that's because my gums were a bit inflamed and I had a lot of calcium built up on my teeth. He assures me that the better care I take of them, the easier it'll be. They verified my insurance beforehand, and everything was easy and smooth. Great location - right across from the Starbucks that's on N and Connecticut. The building security guard is a little rude -- make sure you use the call box on the side of the building instead of just asking him to let you in. Strongly recomemnd. read more

Good: Dr. Baird is competent and friendly without being too chipper. He went to Cornell and the defunct Georgetown Dental School so he is also well-credentialed if that matters to you. He doesn't try and sell you expensive services you don't need and promptly arrives in the exam room after your cleaning. Getting an appointment is not too difficult and the receptionist is pleasant. You don't need to fill out pointless forms on each visit. So far, all three of my appointments have begun as scheduled. They're in a great location, about 2 blocks south of Dupont Circle. No issues with billing or my insurance. The two hygienists I've had were both solid-if-unspectacular in both their cleaning technique and chair-side manner. Bad: The office is a bit dingy and depressing and might be a bit hard to find the first time. They don't have all the high-tech dental gadgets I've seen elsewhere. He doesn't wear a clown-mask or pump you full of nitrous oxide for every cleaning like my awesome/horrifying pediatric dentist did. Bottom Line: A solid choice for competent, convenient no-frills dentistry without having to go to Rockville or somewhere else similarly banal and inconvenient. read more

I love this office because it's very easy to make an appointment (I've never waited more than two weeks from calling), I never wait in the waiting room for an hour or three as I did at my old dentist's office for a cleaning, and the billing/paperwork is no hassle ever. I've had Zoya (I believe was her name) clean my teeth every time and she's amazing. She doesn't randomly stab me or do anything painful, but she's definitely thorough. I brush regularly and floss irregularly so I don't have some funky meth-addict mouth goin' on, but every time I go, walk out feeling like I have a new set of teeth, unearthed in an archaeological dig. Dr. Baird comes in afterward to check her work, we have a brief conversation and that's it. No checking out/filling out additional paperwork (maybe this will be different based on insurance, but mine's not fancy). Someone mentioned the office is "dingy" and "no frills." I don't know what's dingy about it. It's small, but well kept. It's not like there's mold on the ceiling and water stains running down peeling wallpaper. If you can handle this competently run, clean, and efficient office while overlooking the lack of marble flooring and gilded dentist accoutrements, I think you'll find Dr. Baird's office and services quite pleasant. read more

I went to get my teeth cleaned here twice with the same dental hygienist. The first time was rough but I thought to myself it's probably because of my gum sensitivity. The second time was worse--I spat out a mouthful of blood. The dental hygienist said it's because I have tarter buildup. I've never been to a dental office where I was in such excruciating pain. I do not recommend you go here or see that hygienist! read more

I agree with both posters -- for the hassle-free, down to business service, I give it four stars. I've been to dental offices with flat screen TVs above the chair, but those are no different or better when it comes to having clean teeth (plus I watch more than enough TV as it is). I'd definitely recommend to anyone living in the city that has had problems finding a reliable, clean dentist office. read more

I've been a patient here for several years now...he is the most competent dentist I have ever had. His dental hygienist is thorough and certainly not the roughest I've had. I've had a cavity filled here too and it was about as painless as I could hope for. read more

The people that have stated that Dr. Baird is rough and unaware when he is working in someone's mouth are completely inaccurate from my many years of office visits with him and with his staff. I also have several other friends that have been patients of his and they have never once complained that he was rough in terms of his dental work or that they ever found that he caused them pain. That being said I have from time to time experienced some discomfort due to the fact that my gums and certain teeth are, in and of themselves sensitive and no matter who works on them or how they (the dentist(s)) perform the dental work...there will be some discomfort while the work is underway. I have not experienced as much discomfort during dental work and cleanings as I used to because I take better care of my teeth and gums. I have for many years now flossed on a daily basis, not skipping even one day in a year. That has made a huge difference in terms of the health and sensitivity of my gums...they are less so. Also, I stopped chewing ice decades ago. If necessay I will use sensodyne. The point is, if my teeth and gums are not maintained by me hardly at all, then when I do go to the dentist, the work performed will feel more injurious and/or painful. read more
