We stopped by for brunch and noticed they've added many more options beyond sandwiches and wraps. We had the egg salad toast, which came with a side salad. The bread and salad were fresh, and the toast was crispy and delicious. The whole place was filled with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread and brewing coffee. There seemed to be bread crumbs left on most of the tables but I decided not to take off any point. Since the store setup is more self-serve style, I wish customers would be a bit more mindful about keeping the space clean for the next group to enjoy their meal. read more

A cavernous bakery serving various French pastries, bread, sandwiches. I understand they have over 600 locations in France, so to some extent I can understand the popularity. I saw someone checked in at Marie Blachère and it looked really good, so I told my wife we should go for breakfast one day and of course we did. When we arrived, there were so many options to choose from. Finally decided on a Blueberry Muffin and my wife had the Chocolate croissant. For drinks I had a large Americano, and my wife had a regular coffee. Our pastries were very good, my Americano was awesome, one of the best I have had and my wife said her coffee was also great. The place was somewhat crowded, luckily, we got a table and enjoyed our breakfast in a nice comfortable setting. They also had many other options and roof top seating weather permitting. Came here yesterday for the first time for lunch. Unfortunately the menu on the tables is not the same as what they actually serve in this branch. The staff does not really understand what you are saying as well either, they all look confused. Fresh breads being baked, desserts being made just beyond the counter. Smell the dough and sugar wafting through. The interior is huge, two levels for seating and the organized line for ordering. They also have their own parking spaces just outside the perimeter. Note: the lot is shared so try to park as marked with the bakery logo in designated spaces. High ceilings so it feels spacious and there is an outdoor terrace on the second level for better weather days. They run daily specials - buy three get fourth free on many of the baked goods. And if you go 30 minutes before close, items are marked 50% off. There's also a 50% off bin for items that were not sold the previous day. Must try: croissants and the baguette. I really enjoyed the soft baked baguette and I didn't try yet but noted the vegan friendly breads offered as well. The sandwiches we tried were very good: tuna with hard boiled egg and the salmon avocado croissant sandwich. My family enjoyed all of the tarts and the brownie was a hit. I suppose you can't go wrong with a classic brownie. I'm definitely coming back to try the goat cheese and tomato tart - sad face, it was sold out this visit. I went to a bbq gathering and one of the guests brought a pear pie from this bakery. I'm usually not a fan of pies or tarts, let alone a pear pie (?) I was pretty hesitant in trying it because I was almost certain I wouldn't like it. To my absolute surprise...it was AMAZING! The crust was absolutely flawless. It was crunchy but my taste buds also told me the crust was presoaked or washed with some sort of simple syrup before they piled on the delicate pear chunks/purée filing on top. The crust was the perfect thickness and flakiness. The pear filling was not chunky like the usual apple pie fillings but also not mush like apple sauce. It was the perfect blend of mini chunks and slight puree texture. Then it was topped off with crunchy thin almond slices. Wow, this pie really blew me away. read more

A man came in and ordered four multi grain sliced. Looked awesome so maybe next time. The signs on the window are friendly and welcoming. Offering happy hour from 4-6 for wine and beer. Not sure I picture this place for alcohol but hey once drinking any place works hahah Also they clearly must get all the locals in late as the post a sign for half off 40 minutes before they close. In the heart of Great Neck NY is Blachere Sandwiches across the street from the Firehouse. (see pix) Narrow streets and a U turn if heading North as the street after has a Dunkins. The cost is not to expensive and there were young people there getting snacks or sandwiches. Its not a gourmet place. It does have tables to eat at. The Baguette I got had chicken and cheese. (see pix) not much at that. Here's the thing-server Rose asked if I wanted it heated on the Panini Press. I said yes heat it on the Panini Press. I also ordered a croissant with egg and a brioche muffin. At the back of the store is the register to pay. She put 2 items in the bag and asked if there was anything else. I said yes the third item. Where is the other sandwich? Hey a good come back um- oh it has to be heated. She grabs a wrapped one and throws it in the microwave briefly and then into the bag. So much for the Panini Press, (see pix) The muffin was of yellow brioche with salt and chocolate chips on top. It also had a bit of an after taste once eaten. Décor had a touch of Fall with a mini pumpkin on the Coffee machine. There is a sign- Line starts here, near the counter, and out side the side door by the parking lot a sigh that says Breakfast Special $4.95, I saw a rather large container on the floor and asked what it was. Once the translation was clear from the other worker Rose said it was a humidifier. I asked it it added or was a dehumidifier. Apparently it get very humid in there. Amazing bakery. They have a great selection of breads, tarts, and pastries. Once I walked in and saw their selection, I wanted to try everything! Some of their items that I tried: - Chocolate croissant: soft and fluffy with chocolate chunks inside, a classic. - Brownies: not very sweet or gooey, fairly light. - Chocolate chip scone: nice crisp on the outside with plenty of chocolate chips. - Almond croissant: one of my favs! It's nice and crispy on the outside with an delicious filling. - Chocolate muffin: another one of my favs. It doesn't taste like a typical muffin - very rich in flavor and super moist in the middle. - Blueberry muffin: this one's a classic. - Beignet: these are more like fluffy donut holes. They're super soft and pillowy and come in two flavors: chocolate and jelly. Definitely check them out for baked goods! They also have deals for their items if you purchase more. Following an appointment I had in the area, I venture for a drive down Middle Neck Road to find myself at the impressive Marie Blachere. The parking lot is shared with a Capital One Bank branch, so be careful when securing a parking spot. I placed my order for an egg, cheese and turkey bacon croissant, coffee, and a pain de chocolat via the Toast app. I walked inside and saw a table with A-G, H-M, N-R, S-Z. There were bags with orders placed near the appropriate letter. Mine was not there, so I took a moment to peruse their selection and was surprised to see the large selection. There were three other patrons inside, and floor markers and line stanchions helped them maintain a safe distance while waiting their turn. The glass case protects hundreds of croissants, breads, and a small selection of pastries. After the other three people selected, paid, and left, someone asked me if I needed help. I told her I had a mobile order and she went to look for it. She came back a short time later and handed me a bag with my items and the cup of coffee. They have stevia at their "fixing" station, something I hold as high on my list of "asks"--many places don't have it! One glitch was that the egg, cheese and turkey bacon croissant was cold. Apparently you have to ask for it to be heated. The Toast app didn't say this nor did it allow for requesting it. I returned inside and asked for it to be heated, which they happily did. It was delicious, which is hard to accomplish with turkey bacon. As for the chocolate croissant, it was flaky and fresh with a perfect rod of fresh dark chocolate peeking out from within. I will definitely be back, and highly recommend your visiting if in the area. And after you enjoy something to eat there, take a stroll in the area to patronize some small businesses that are in desperate need of our help. read more

Normally the staff are very nice since they have been open very good service however this one staff I don't know if he's a staff or if he's the owner but he's a little short guy who has an accent and a grumpy face was giving me a problem because he suspected that another time I was there (like 3 months ago)I left a l mess behind. This was not the first time this has happened. Another time I had a problem with him but I politely brushed it off and apologized he had a bone to pick with me because I took a sugar when I only got pastries and bread but my daughter likes to taste the sugar in a little bag says a treat. I apologized, assured him that I was unaware that I was not allowed to take a sugar and moved on. I respect that it's his business or someone's business but also thought that was kind of harsh considering I was spending money there and it was only one sugar bag. Then today, I took my daughter from school and we got a couple of things to bring home and I got myself a cup of coffee my daughter didn't want anything to drink so it was just the one cup of coffee and the treat for my daughter to bring home and the treat for me. First he asks me understandably to go on the other side since I was already being helped so that other customers could line up and order. I respected that and went to the other side then I helped myself to some sugars for my coffee. He right away attacks me about how I take too many sugars I assured him just taking the amount that I need for my coffee. Then he goes on to tell me that last time I took so many sugars that I made a mess at the table now I wasn't going to eat there because I had some place to go so I assured him that every time I go there I clean off the table he said the floors are messy now there's obviously very little I can do about the floor but any top paper towels or anything that I can pick up obviously I pick up I don't leave garbage behind I also always tip the server. So I assured him that and he argued with me and said that last time I was there I left the mess behind. I told him last time I was there I was with my parents and he wasn't there. I thought maybe he saw usveomehow but even so I don't think we would have left a mess behind but he said that the last time I was there and left the mess I was not with my parents and that's not true I had not gone to the bakery in months other than that one time I went on St Patrick's Day where I was with my parents. I usually go there when I pick my daughter up from school. I had not picked my daughter up from school in a while other than a couple of times I was with my parents. The bakery is by her school so this was always our spot that we go to. It's a shame that we have to give up going to this bakery because it is a nice place and that Duncan next door really is not the same anymore since they renovated always crowded and they're always out of stuff. My daughter always enjoys going to this bakery and I'm a little disappointed but anything I can get at that bakery I can honestly just make myself so honestly it's a bit of a loss but not a total loss. I would really want to pass on this information to people that he would treat me this way. The other workers are nice but I don't know if he's the owner and if he is, I really don't want to give business to a person who treats people that way. Now there are many reasons to not like a customer and to confront them. Maybe the customer is rude or the customers is difficult to the servers but to treat a customer that way because you think they might have left the table messy months ago like how do you even back up that? Every time I go there there's a whole handful of customers and it's not like he's waiting on the table so how the heck does even remember which table I was sitting at???? I've seen people leave tables very messy and that's not me even when I go to a restaurant where there's waitress service I always try to consolidate all the stuff that I leave behind keep it neat wipe off any messes pick up anything that could have dropped to the floor that's big enough to pick up I am not one to just leave a huge mess behind. read more

Spacious and inviting, good breads but probably won't return for the price - I'm not a bread eater. Sometimes in the restaurants when the breads taste yummy, especially when they're warm, I'll have one or two. Most pastries I saw there are dark - not sure it's their style or over baked -:). A croissant costs $2.50 and in all honesty, they aren't as good as the Costco's - which I recalled was about $6 for ten (or six? - huge pack ... I haven't been there for a couple of years ...) and not as good as Paul - a franchise in Paris or France which I frequent whenever I'm there. This past May, a croissant costs €1.75 @ Paul. With exchange rate hovers around €1=$1.12 and being in a deserted part of a NY suburb, it's pricy for no apparently value. Marie Blachére's croissant is 'solid' or 'dead', nothing is falling off - not fluff or puff (good that I've nothing to clean up ... ). I purchased it in the afternoon around 3pm and don't feel the same freshness that I've from Paul - at all time of a day. It's a touchy subject for me because my grandmother grew up with it in Tianjin - the Kiessling - and continuously enjoyed it after she moved to Beijing after marrying my grandfather in 1932. Very disappointed. After hearing all the amazing reviews of this place and everyone raving about it, I am wondering what the fuss is about. Yes, it's nice and there's a great selection but the apple pie was not fresh. It was day-old and re-naked to pretend like it was fresh out of the oven. It was even burned on the bottom because of the reheating. Sad. The pie itself wasn't all that great. It was good, but certainly nothing special. I'm no baker and I can make better tasting pie. Maybe I caught them on an off day? Not sure. Tip: if you go right before closing you get a discount. But apparently what doesn't sell they just reheat and resell the next day.
