Last Saturday, my sister, a friend and I came to Maria's for breakfast. I haven't been here before and my sister and our friend really liked it here, so we came. It wasn't busy around 10:30 am when we got there. We were greeted and seated right away, given menus and the waitress who took care of us, took our drink order and let us take our time to order. We all ordered the Breakfast Special for $7.99, but varied the order to our liking. I had ordered the special with eggs sunny side up and brown toast, my sister ordered her eggs scrambled with white toast and our friend had over easy eggs, with brown toast. I should have asked for tomato slices instead of home fries, because I am not a fan of potatoes. Nonetheless, the entire breakfast was hot and delicious and my eggs were cooked perfectly; perfect for dunking my toast into them. The coffee and tea we ordered came by a small pot, enough for one person, but enough to have several cups, which was enjoyable instead of having to have the waitress come around and top up our cups. The service was fast, our food came out hot and everything good. Great small town atmosphere, good company. The prices were standard for your diner food, coffee was bottomless. I'd like to come back and try the lunch menu. read more

Waited over an hour for corn beef hash & eggs... 3 of us went in to the restaurant on a Sunday around lunch. It was full, so we expected a wait. Once seated, we placed our breakfast order... AN HOUR LATER... it came out ICE COLD! Then we Waited another 20 min for it to be made again. Ok... the wait is long, but for it to come out cold is not acceptable. When the second round finally came out, it was hot & tasted fine. In the end, they deducted 1 meal off the bill to make it up to us. But Food that takes almost 90min to get ... not good read more

Driving through Amherstburg, we spotted this diner and thought we'd give it a look see. We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon at around 2ish. The place was fairly quiet. We sat ourselves and a waitress was by shortly afterwards. She gave us menus, took a drink order and off she went. When she returned, we placed our order. Person 1 - Perogies. 6 large perogies smothered in onions and bacon (lots of bacon) with sour cream on the side). He said they were "good" but that the outside was "off". Mind you, it didn't stop him from woofing them down..he just said he's had better at other places. Person 2 (me) - I ordered chicken quesadillas. I declined the sour cream but got salsa. My quesadilla came with fries, an odd pairing choice. Fries were way over cooked and took up far too much space on the plate...it was virtually impossible to cut the quesadilla due to the amount. The quesadilla itself was fairly bland..the salsa given was mild and offered no flavour. It was mediocre at best. As the menu is huge, I may stop in again, but wouldn't make it a destination. read more

Never again!!! The last 3 times ordering from here has been a nightmare. Each time the told us it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. Each time we would arrive and be told that the order hadn't been started. First time was an additional 35 minutes, 2nd time 45 minutes and the last time was 30 minutes. And to top it off each time something in the order was messed up. Missing food, cold, soggy buns. This last time the gravy was so burn it was inedible. The worst was that we ordered a 5 piece broaster chicken dinner and when we opened the box someone had picked off the skin of 3 of the pieces of chicken. Will not go back again. read more

Our group of 4 stopped in here instead of the Mc'D's style of lunch while in town for a wedding to attend. Nice change and a treat to be served in great time and a smile. We ordered a variety - the roasted chicken pieces, tomato meat sauce and macaroni soup (soooo good! and a filling amount), ham sammy, fries and gravy, philly steak sammy. All meals served 'hot' - gravy was a good dipping supplement. Not bad at all. A nice change. Price was decent. Parking at side and rear. read more

Nice local place, service was nice and friendly. Also, prices are cheap for some reasonably good quick eats. Specifically, the Philly cheesesteak was thin and had too much of a processed cheese flavour. The fries were not crunchy and pretty tasteless. I like how a lot of things come with a drink, also the breakfast came with lots of bacon. Also, the large selection of pies was nice. read more

This place has that old school diner feel and they aren't even trying. You can tell this is a neighbourhood fixture, full of local character. The breakfast I ordered was fast, hot and good, the price was terrific too. read more

Generic restaurant overall. If your in to classic American foods (such as burgers and fried chicken) this is a good restaurant overall. Good service and the food is not bad, it's just really average. read more

I've been coming to this diner for years. It changed owners about 3 Years ago and it was for the best. It received a much needed makeover on the inside. The menu didn't change mich which is good because it very reasonably priced for breakfast and lunch. Like any other small diner it gets very busy early on the weekends. Definitely suggest making a reservation or going in early. Service is generally friendly and quick. read more

Dinner for 5 came to $85...seems pricy for diner food. Service was staggered, we're served in stages . Food was ok.

Food is always good. Great cozy atmosphere especially on a cold rainy day. The only negative thing to say is that I had the shepherds pie and the garlic bread it came with was mouldy everything else was excellent especial the french vanilla lates!! read more

Broasted chicken decent. But I ordered two piece white - one piece was a tiny wing. Wedges were too big and not cooked all the way through. coleslaw was just "pickled" cabbage, no carrots, etc. No roll provided. Complained to the waitress and she gave us $5 discount which we appreciated. read more

For most of my life up until now i would usually give maria's a 3.5 or 4, but not today, not after the terrible food and service given today. My girlfriend and I came in today at around 4:25 for our usual. My usual being a side day soup and a gyro with a side small poutine, my girlfriend had her usual "i dont know" which this time translated to a BLT. we also decided to treat ourselves to a shrimp basket to enjoy with our soup while we waited for our main course. now when we sat we got one waitress who took our drinks and gave us our menus, and then recieved a different waitress to take our order, then when the soup arrived we received waitress #1 again, this tag in and tag out continued our entire meal. waitress #2 arrived and informed us that they were out of shrimp, not a problem what so ever. my girlfriend and I both work in kitchens so we understand the small stuff. so we switched out the shrimp for spinach dip. it was at this point that what I assume we're two off shift waitresses came into the building and began helping themselves to the pop and soup, also causing quite a bit of noise. after a few minutes the soup arrived courtesy of waitress #1, cream of potato and bacon it was great! could have used more bacon but the flavor was great and the soup had a wondeful consistency and colour. soon after our spinach dip arrived in the hands of waitress #2. now mind you, when we arrived we we're the only ones in house. by the time our spinach dip arrived there were now several other tables, i see no reason 2 waitresses should take care of one table. but i digress, back to the spinach dip. not only was our 8.99 bowl of spinach dip lacking of flavor, it had also clearly been microwaved. the tell tale hard ring of cheese along the edge of the top of the bowl told me that. as a professional cook, this is where I really started getting unhappy with my meal. but it dosnt end there, no sir! while trying to enjoy our bowl of mic'd cheese, it was time for the cooks to eat! two kitchen staff came and sat at the bar stools carrying plates of amazing looking burgers, extra pickles, mounds of perfectly golden fries. i knew i wanted my main course. but till then we got the enjoy the bitter rantings of the teenaged waitstaff complaining about how they have to work so much "when do i get a weekend?" "blah blah blah", along with the yelling coming from the kitchen staff. so there they all gathered at the bar with full lack of professionalisim, laughing and joking and talking. but did those laughs continue to my table? no i was given a cold "is everything ok?" from waitress #2. FINALLY! our main course has arrived, gyro with side small poutine for me and a BLT with no tomato and no fries for the lady. first look at the plate was sad. no coleslaw, which is usually awesome freakin coleslaw! a mountain of over cooked fries topped with the thinnest layer of shredded cheese, topped again with about 18 ounces of thick heavy gravy, gravy which tasted heavily of flour and dried beef boullion. all of which congealed into a cold heap of unhappiness within minutes. i couldnt enjoy the gyro because before i could even touch it i had to bolt for the bathroom, for the revenge of the spinach dip. i did my thing and returned to see my food packed up and the bill already there. but thats just my meal, let us talk of the dish served to my girlfriend. a very dry BLT, they remembered no tomato but forgot the mayonaise, also figured an inch of iceburg lettuce would take away from the vaporized bacon that turned to ash even from just being rubbed in your fingers. we paid our bill (42.70) and left. no tip. will not ever be returning! after 20 years of coming here. im even writting this at home at 7:03, elbows to my knees still on the toilet. thank you marias. heres a smart business tip...if youre going to have teenagers run your business, have one adult present to keep them in shape. an experienced front of house manager that knows what theyre doing could turn your staff around. read more

I was disappointed by the service in this place, was my first time today, April 26/15 and I don't think I will go there ever again. When my daughter and I came in, there was a line up waiting to pay, maybe 2 or 3 families, and no one was there to greet us or to check these people out. When someone came after about one minute, we were not even acknowledged. I was expecting something like ''just a moment, I'll be right with you'', but no I had to ask ''do I just sit anywhere'' and so we sat ourselves down wherever we wanted. I ordered a burger and fries for I think it was $7.50 and since I wanted fresh cut potatoes it was $1 more which was all right. When I received the food, I was so shocked that they would even serve the fries I received, they were burned. So I told the waitress and she took them back. I heard someone yelling in the kitchen, so I thought the cook was getting yelled at. But when I received the fries they were burned again, I understood that the yelling was to me. I can't believe they would try to serve the fries the same as the first time, I wouldn't doubt that they were the same ones I got the first time. And the waitress even justified them saying they have to cook them that way or else they would be raw on the inside. I don't think so. Someone was to busy to pay attention to what they were cooking. I definitely will be calling the owners tomorrow to tell them what sort of employees they have. The waitress said she would take the fries off the bill, but all she took off was the $1 for fresh cut fries, I still paid the full $7.50 for burger and fries, fries that I never had. read more
