Chips and salsa served when you sit down. Both salsas are really good. Red and green both have a great flavor with just enough spice to not overwhelm you. IF chips were served warm it would be even better. Inside is bright with list of table seating. Service is usually pretty good. Food is consistent. Homemade tortillas and good menudo. We placed the order for pick up, and the soup was piping hot!!!! I can still feel it on my tongue. The soup had so much meat in it with a balance of enough veggies. I love the convenience of Maria's Cafe in the downtown area. I really Love the staff. They're warm and always funny. Today I went with the supreme carne asada burrito. The burrito cost me $10.85. This burrito came with a side a chips and a crane to carry the big burrito. Look at the picture. I'm not lying about the size. As for the taste? It was delicious. Perfectly balanced burrito on a homemade tortilla. This thing was so big, I believe it could stand up on its own. read more

I came into Maria's with my mom to have breakfast and it was packed. No problem, my mom and I waited for a table to become available. Once it did we walked over to the table, however we were quickly stopped and told they were going to ask a bigger party if they wanted to sit at that table which they refused. The gentleman who stopped us didn't acknowledge us after that. He didn't tell us "go ahead and sit down, the party refused the table" just left us standing around so we took the table. As this happened another table became available but someone walked in and took it and were quickly waited on while my mom and I sat at the table that nobody wanted. We waited 10 minutes while everyone else was helped. First and last time at this place. Do better, this is how small businesses fail in this city. read more

I like this place for certain things such as the Albondigas. They make it just like I do with potato, carrot and zucchini. And I like the fact that you can get a lunch or dinner sized portion. I really love the fresh flour tortilla chips (which you don't find at most Mexican restaurants) but I don't really care for either of their salsas. I have placed many to-go orders and they're always ready when I get there but that is the best thing I can say about the customer service. Most of the waitresses are unfriendly and seem annoyed when you ask for something when dining in. Still, it doesn't deter me from coming here. read more

as usual the food was great and I love that they have half sizes on many of their plates and soups, but I really wish they would improve their service. I had to ask for a menu, then coffee, then flag her down to place my order, then chips and salsa, and no one brought water, despite that every one around me was brought water automatically with their menus ... and it wasn't that I was a solo diner as there were solo diners on each side of me! so in short, I would highly recommend take out as there would be no issues with their wait staff! read more

I came to this place because my brother would always say the burritos there are good. The place is really close to Pd headquarters. Its a little ran down divey looking place which I dont care as long as the food is good. I ordered a chicana burrito and some ham and egg burritos. They were good. They taste authentic like mom or grandma was in the kitchen cooking up burritos. The only downside was the wait. I believe I waited around 35-45 min. I was supposed to meet up with others for breakfast (I was bringing). That is my only complaint and reason I took off one star. I didnt expect to wait that long. I totally recommend this spot if you have the time to wait or maybe the service is quicker if you dine in the restaurant. read more

We were headed back to LA from Sacramento we needed breakfast burritos! This place was a such a surprise! It was PACKED on a late Sunday morning, phone was ringing off the hook for ToGo orders, and it really felt like a local gem. Only 2 ladies working the front and maybe 3-4 cooks, they were working so hard to pump out orders. We got 2 breakfast burritos w/ bacon and they were delicious!!! What a great lunch. I ordered cocido (beef soup) that had a great rich flavor with just enough zucchini, carrots and cabbage. The bowl was small but sufficient. The meat was tender and enhanced the flavor of the soup. Lunch came with rice, beans and tortillas. It took about 15-20 minutes for the soup but was hot and steamy. The chimichangas are excellent and the quesadilla with beef is bomb. It's about time I Yelp it. If you see a bunch of cops eatin at a spot on the regular, you know it's pretty good. It's usually packed at lunch during the week with folks that work downtown. Good crispy chips and 2 different kinds of salsa is what you can expect to eat first. I've never had a bad meal here!! Only knock I have on Maria's is that the flour tortillas could be better. All the food is delicious and the freshest. They got awesome brewed ice tea, and good service. It's located at the old San Pan restaurant site. The pics I'll post will say more than I could ever write. Most good, old school, Mexican restaurants in Stockton are located south of Harding Way, Maria's included. Maria's Café is deep in the heart of downtown Stockton, it's not always the best location but the food makes it worth it. I have been eating here with my family since I was a child. The food is good clean home cooking, very close to our own family. It's like eating at your tias house. Don't expect fancy plates with garnishments, don't expect the waitresses to greet you with fake smiles and high pitched compliments. The food was good and price really reasonable. The chili Colorado is the best in town and Spanish rice. The abondigas are closest to mom's you can get. However, if there is such a thing as bad service ruining a good meal this is it. Once they drop off your order good luck on getting refills , napkins, etc. the waitresses know you need service but ignores so can take other orders or deliver food to tables. This feels more like a drive in than dine in feel. This is just flat out rude . I also had to get in line to get my bill as again waitresses don't even come to do this! I could of so walked out on the bill without paying as they were that bad. I had to inconvenience myself to be an honest man. This is a first for me. Yeah I will only be DoorDash to not waste money on undeserved waitress tips. Very disappointed in this place.. The horchata tasted sour as if it had gone bad I should've known right then and there it was going to be an unpleasant meal. Waitress never came back to see if we needed a refill. I asked for a full side of rice for my daughter and was given about half a cup keep in mind I told them charge me for it. Food was cold. Ordered nopales with eggs and all I got was nopales and I asked the waitress where was the egg and she said that I asked for nopales with eggs which meant it's just mostly nopales.
