I went to Virginia for a consult. She seemed confident that she could give me the kind of cut that…read moreI wanted (a shag), but she asked me to send her multiple pictures, so that she could get a really clear idea of both what I did and didn't want. So, I did that; I had to email the pics, as I was having problems with my phone at the time. When I went in for my cut, it was clear that she hadn't seen the pictures and didn't have them. But she repeatedly reassured me that everything was ok and went ahead with the cut. Not surprisingly, it was not the cut I had asked for. After 4 days of trying to style it every way I could and not being able to improve it, I texted her that I was having trouble. At some point in the conversation, I asked her whether she had the pictures I had sent her after our initial consult. She dodged the question and, instead, asked me when was the last time I colored my hair. Then, we had a phone call where she told me exactly how I should be drying it. She said that, plus coloring my roots, would make a big difference. So, I did exactly what she told me and went in to see her the next day. She seemed surprised that none of those things had made any difference at all. I had brought some more pictures with me, in the hopes that she might be able to get me at least a little closer to what I had been wanting. As I was showing her the pictures, I said "I realize that these women have different textured hair than I do." She then said, "Well, these women have different textured hair than you do! If that's the look you want, you need to get some type of perm." I was very surprised and said that I wasn't sure if I wanted to go that route, but she gave me a couple of referrals. As I was getting ready to leave, she told me that bang trims are free with a cut and that I should come back in 6-8 weeks for that. I figured that was probably safe, so when the time came for a bang trim, I texted her but never heard back. A few days later, I called her. No response. I've waited 2 weeks before writing this review, to give her the benefit of the doubt, in case she was on vacation or something. But apparently, her failure to respond was just another example of her nonprofessionalism.

Initially I was a little confused about location as they have 2 separate spaces - one next to Great Harvest and another to the east near Palmers. Just make sure you know where you're headed beforehand. My first impressions of the salon were great. It's beautiful with modern, fresh decor and lovely lighting. No seriously. You know how sometimes either while sitting with foils in your hair or (worse) after they've rinsed your color and you're sitting in the chair, water-logged and pale you realized you look something like a drowned sewer rat? That was not the case at Voltage. I was so pleasantly surprised. Alexis did a great job with my hair, as always. She's a master with color; she'll take your ideas and bring them to life. She's constantly honing her craft to be better and current. I love my cut and color. I will say that they're not cheap (certainly not the most expensive either) but...you get what you pay for.
