Are those trained men's hair-masters now extinct? Pity. Most recently, on a warm day in February, Hair Secrets was the establishment blessed with my challenge. "Do you cut men's hair?" "Yes." Filled with expectant joy, I nestled down on the outdated barber's chair. I'm sorry, folks, but I've gotten to the point, that by feeling how the hair-cutter handles and snips at my hair, I get a pretty accurate picture of how it is going to turn out. The way my hair was being handled, and the action of the scissors seemed "off" somehow. It is with deep regret I report that my prediction proved true. "Just a quarter inch here," I had instructed, "and an inch here." "A little extra off the back," I elaborated, "but leave a little covering the ears." I sat in stoic silence as my beautiful locks were treated. So now there are two things to say. First, more of my hair was cut off than I had asked to have cut off. I said a quarter inch to an inch. Over two inches were removed from some spots. Second, my hair is tiered. Who wants tiered hair! (If you do, go here.) I went in with my hair shaped, blended, but slightly long, and left looking like the eighth Dwarf, "Choppy". I was pretty disappointed. I went to a barber school once. I got a great discount for my haircut, but it did not look all that good. That was okay, because I knew beforehand what I was getting into - greenhorn barbers, residents in training, experimentation. Plus I got a discount. But Hair Secrets is not a barber school, and did not give me a discount. I would say that you might be dissatisfied if you go to Hair Secrets for a man's haircut. On the other hand, I cannot say what the quality of care for women's hair there is. So if you are a woman, go ahead and try them out, and then write a review in Yelp. (Maybe i should wear a baseball cap till it grows back.)

Alex really understands face and hair dynamics. What's amazing is that his cut keeps looking great for weeks. I still get compliments on my haircut even 2+ months out, which is something I never experienced with other stylists. His styling chops definitely have staying power. I've always had difficulty finding someone who is consistent in giving me a good cut in Greeley or Fort Collins. So many disappointments until I found this little salon tucked away in the University neighborhood. I've been going to Alex for 5 years. Wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.
