Maria is amazing. So sweet and great at what she does. I went in there in June for alterations done for my wedding dress and she had it ready for me in August. Every time I put on my dress for a fitting, she made me feel so comfortable and beautiful. I took my dress home in August and then tried it on and noticed it was a bit loose (due to me losing some weight) and Maria took my dress back right away and literally had my dress fitting me perfectly just 2 days later. Never never never. I was very disappointed in my experience at this studio. I came in with a $300 bridesmaid gown that simply needed to be shortened, nothing crazy. I didn't bring heels with me, and when I offered to go get them from my car Maria said I didn't need them as long as she knew how high my shoes would be (in this case 4 inch heels). She appeared to understand as she marked the dress and said its better to stay longer just in case. I felt confident in this and when I returned a week later was appalled to find the dress MUCH too short. I had brought shoes this time, and had actually opted for 3 inch heels INSTEAD of 4, so was shocked to see that even with the shorter heel my full ankles were showing. I immediately flagged this to Maria who tried to convince me it wasn't too short, but there was no hiding it, as my ankles were very clearly visible. She argued that I hadn't brought shoes in the first time and tried to pin the error on me, though there was no mistaken that she has royally effed this one up. She told me to come back in 30 min and she would see what she could do. I have no clue what she did in those 30 min, but when I came back the dress was about half an inch longer. It was still too short, but it was an improvement. I was so flabbergasted that I just needed to get out of there ASAP. She didn't offer any discount on 1) her mistake or 2) the emotional trauma I just dealt with and charged me $70 for the hem. This dress was for a 9 person bridal party so if my dress was too short it would ruin every picture. I would never under any circumstances recommend going to this studio. I understand mistakes happen, but it's a character flaw which has me floored the most as Maria tried to make me feel like I was at fault. She needs a serious lesson in customer service. read more

Initially I took in two favorite dresses after a weight loss, and Maria did fantastic work. More recently, I brought in a gorgeous designer gown in the middle of prom/graduation/bat mizvah/wedding season in SCARSDALE, everybody - it's an extremely busy time. How she keeps all of the work straight, I'll never know. Maria was straightforward and honest with me about how long she would need to do the work. I don't think she'd let me leave the dress with her if she couldn't do it, and do it well. So there's the Customer Service. Maria is honest about what she needs to do good work. And she does fan-TAS-tic work. The hemming was perfectly to the floor in the shoes I wore to the fitting; another alteration in the shoulder made the dress look like it was crafted for me personally. I went to a beach wedding and danced all night in that dress. (Last time I used a different tailor for a gown hem and the stitching kept getting caught on my shoe and pulling out. Ew. EW.) JM's review might be the most confused "Yelp" I've ever read. Clearly, Maria is the best tailor in New York (better than Ban Tailor in the city, better than, well, anyone). I love how JM says Maria is "the only tailor he would trust," and then gives her less than 5 stars. Yes - I can also say: "Maria is the only tailor I would trust." There is a less-than-stellar dry cleaner next to Maria's (on Garth Road). They butcher the clothes. They've ruined 2 shirts, and lost 3 pairs of pants. I don't go back. But - Maria was born and raised in clothing factories in Italy and Germany (literally). She is better than the tailors I worked with on modeling shoots. She is better than the hipster tailor I used to go to in Williamsburg. She is the best. JM, and most of her customers for that matter - simply don't deserve her. read more

Maria did a perfect job taking in and altering the neck line of a silk jacket I adored. The jacket and the lining were delicate, and I was worried about how the new stitching would look.
