We hired this Mariachi Trio for our 26th wedding anniversary celebration at Celia's Mexican Restaurant by the beach (4019 Judah St, San Francisco), and they were absolutely fantastic! They were able to accommodate us on short notice and delivered an excellent performance with a great mix of traditional and up-to-date songs. The trio was energetic, joyful, and incredibly engaging--not only with us as hosts but also with our guests. Their talent and warm presence brought such a special energy to the evening. We will definitely be hiring them again in the future and highly recommend them for any event. Thank you for making our anniversary unforgettable! Olga & Danny Camacho

Absolutely incredible! Don't hesitate to book the Mariachi Trio. Their pricing is very competitive, they sing absolutely beautifully and were on time and professional. I hired them via Yelp, paid a deposit online and everything went so smoothly thereafter! It was as a surprise for my husband's 40th birthday party last weekend. The crowd were ecstatic and a few couples even got up and danced or sang along to the vibrant music played. The Mariachi Trio were very entertaining and I highly recommend them for any event.

My husband and I hired Mariachi Trio for our 30th birthday and they were fantastic! They were on time and engaged with the crowd. Everyone loved them!

Hired el Trio for the cocktail hour of my wedding and I couldn't have asked for more! Marco was communicative and easy to coordinate with (in Spanish). Their voices and music created a lovely, nostalgic atmosphere for me and my guests, especially those traveling in from Mexico. Definitely recommend!

I hired Mariachi Trio as a surprise for my Mom's 80th birthday party and they were amazing! Rigo communicated all requirements clearly from the beginning and was very professional and also personable. They helped me give my family a surprise and memories they will never forget. They also interacted with everything making it so fun. You will not be disappointed hiring these guys! Obrigado Rigo!!!

Due to covid and living 250 miles away from my senior citizen parents, I was unable to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with them (side note: I'm almost fully vaccinated and will visit them next month!). I was looking for a memorable gift to share with them that would maintain social distance but satisfy their love of live music, and Rigo and his gang perfectly fit the bill! Just through phone calls, text messages, and venmo, I was able to schedule a 1-hour surprise live outdoor show at their house! Rigo maintained great communication, and arrived at their house very early (without breaking the surprise) - absolute professional! Unfortunately I couldn't watch them live, but my mom FaceTimed me for one song, and they sounded great! After the show, my parents called me and were raving about how much fun they had! Thank you so much for making my parents' 40th anniversary perfect! It's exciting to see life starting to get back to normal, and we can't wait to hire these guys again for a real party with more than two people!

We had the pleasure of having the trio at our wedding celebration. They were amazing and wonderful! Everyone loved them. Thank you for being a part of our day! Muchisimas gracias!!

They played at my wedding at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden and absolutely nailed it. Everyone kept talking about the trio all night. I got to walk down the aisle to Hermoso Cariño. Thank you so much, you are so talented

By the instructor's own account, this isn't a hula hālau, and she isn't a kumu hula. When asked about her lineage, she had no clear answer, which leaves me unsure where my own training comes from. Hula and ʻori carry deep cultural meaning, and I believe they're best taught by trusted cultural practitioners. Families looking for that should know the difference. Beyond that, the studio's operations leave a lot to be desired. BILLING AND TRANSPARENCY: There's a lack of transparency around pricing and accounts, and a clear information asymmetry between the studio and its students. Contracts include unspecified early-withdrawal terms alongside a verbal no-refunds policy. Despite published fees, tuition and contract terms are set one-on-one through SMS or DM, which never felt fully aboveboard. Tuition is paid to the owner's personal Venmo rather than a business account, and staff have asked students for screenshots as proof of payment. If the studio can't confirm payments from its own records, I have little faith in its bookkeeping. In my experience, this led to calculation discrepancies and disputed overcharges. I tried to resolve them directly, but after weeks of back-and-forth, the process became too draining to continue. Between tuition, costumes, merch, show fees, deposits, donations, and potlucks, it felt like flying Allegiant: everything is à la carte. SCHEDULING AND COMMUNICATION: Classes frequently start and end late, and showcase practices are often scheduled or changed at the last minute. Once, students got about 15 minutes' notice to pick up costumes before a practice across town. The day before one show, everyone was asked if someone could pick up 100 lbs of dry ice, a real handling and transport risk. Processes change yearly with no consistency, and hōʻike season communication is lacking and last minute. Staff often can't answer students' questions about anything, from contracts to schedules to costumes. FACILITIES: A review here from nine years ago called the building run down; the owner replied it was being upgraded and had a common area for families. During the 2024 hōʻike, students were asked to donate money for raffle baskets, the studio sold raffle tickets at its shows, and staff confirmed in writing that proceeds would go to the "hālau" for studio upgrades, but in my observation, no upgrades were apparent. The building is still run down, and parents often end up waiting on the floor in a cramped hallway of questionable cleanliness. VOLUNTEER EXPECTATIONS: Though this is a for-profit business charging commercial tuition, it relies heavily on students and volunteers for operational work. Parent volunteers also supervise children backstage during shows, and I was never told whether volunteers working with minors are screened. After the annual shows, students who already paid participation fees were expected to clean the theater or forfeit a $50 deposit. INSTRUCTION AND CULTURE: The emphasis is on performance rather than cultural preservation. Classes center on show choreography, while the ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and meaning of each mele are left for students to study from a literal translation. Without a kumu to teach the kaona and context behind each mele, much of the meaning is lost. In one class, the instructor asked if anyone knew what May Day was. A student answered that it's when hālau across the Bay Area come together to dance, and the instructor didn't correct her. May Day is Lei Day in Hawaiʻi, a spring celebration of lei-making, island culture, and the spirit of aloha. Moments like that were missed chances to teach the culture. Students get amazing opportunities to perform at theme parks and pro sporting events. Given the limited cultural grounding, I feel those stages could be better shared with Polynesian groups trusted with perpetuating the culture. Much of class is students following along while the instructor often sits at her desk in the corner, with little individual correction from "alakaʻi." Placements also seemed to favor a few. For one mele, several girls who consistently attended practice were placed in the back, while relatives of a longtime student were centered despite being absent often. Class can also be uncomfortable, as the instructor often speaks to staff in a condescending way in front of students. Over about five years, I invested five figures in tuition and fees without focused attention on my technique or cultural understanding. It's unfortunate that such a wonderful community is managed this way. Rather than trying to control what students say through "hālau rules" that restrict gossip and feedback, I'd encourage the studio to earn a better reputation by investing in transparent billing, better organization, and focused, hands-on instruction. A regular, anonymous pulse survey might help the studio understand how students actually feel.

I had taken piano lessons briefly as a child and again in my 20s. While I enjoyed the idea of playing, I often found practicing frustrating and progress painfully slow. After two failed attempts, I assumed I just wasn't "musically inclined." Now in my 30s, I was determined to find a creative outlet, and I'm so glad I found Bernadette's studio. Her own inspiring journey of learning piano later in life really resonated with me--it's a constant reminder that it's never too late to start (or restart). The Simply Music method she teaches is a refreshing, play-based approach. Unlike traditional methods that begin with music theory and sight-reading, this method focuses on learning to play real songs from the very beginning. I love being able to learn a piece during a lesson and immediately go home to practice and refine it. A year in, I can play 10-15 songs from memory--something I never imagined possible before. It's far more gratifying than the scale drills and exercises I remember from earlier lessons. Whether you've struggled with piano in the past or are just beginning, I highly recommend For the Love of Piano. It's a supportive, engaging environment that makes learning enjoyable.
