The director, Maximo Califano, is a patient and inspiring teacher who encourages dancers of all levels to reach their potential. At the same time, he has a wonderful way with children, blending strong technique with artistry in an environment that's both disciplined and nurturing. Max is firm, but always kind, and brings humor and heart to every class. It's no surprise that dancers come from near and far to train with him. Ballet San Jose School also offers performing opportunities for dancers of all ages. I've had the joy of performing in both The Nutcracker and spring productions--each experience has been incredibly fulfilling. The new studio in Little Saigon is spacious, bright, and beautifully equipped with new floors, barres, and mirrors. Now our daughter is taking class all by herself at almost 5 years old (and she really likes going on the ballet barre). She's grown so much confidence in the class (although this took time), and she really enjoys all the dancing and activities during class. The make up policy is very easy and flexible for changes in our schedule. We're so thankful for all the classes we got to share with Ms. Bella, Mrs. Jocelynn, and Ms. Isabelle. They've all been wonderful teachers and really engaging and kind with the kids. We even hosted our daughter's 4th Birthday Party here. We were lucky to have Mrs. Jocelynn and Ms. Celeste host and help with all of the setup and cleanup. All of our guests loved the activities and class and our daughter still talks about her birthday party. It made things really easy for us.

Updating my review based on Christy's response. Interesting…read morethat Christy can respond to Yelp reviews but will not call or email a parent. Christy's response is, quite frankly, laughable. No significant time was spent communicating with me. Christy has never once communicated with me! Neither Christy nor her staff (Michelle or Bre) stepped foot in the dance studio to assess the environment in person during the class either. Christy states that she is confident she and her team approached the matter with a "child development philosophy." Per Bre Chavez, on a phone call on 5/1, she stated that a child kissing another child forcefully on the mouth is normal behavior and she knows this because she has years of experience working with kids. Where in child development literature does it state this is normal behavior? Bre also told me during that same phone call that she did not want me to talk to the other parents about the situation. They are the ones that promised to have two teachers present ongoing to ensure no further issues occurred (and no, it was not a temporary agreement), and that agreement was rescinded because they don't have enough teachers after the newest teacher quit (I think she only lasted a month or two?). Christy or one of the other two could have stepped up and come to the class and they chose not to. Christy's solution to these issues was to kick my child out because she doesn't like that I wrote a poor review of the studio. I left an honest review of my experience and my opinion of how the situation was handled and she RETALIATED. That tells me all I need to know about her. So my caution to families is to enroll at your own risk. Know that Christy will not communicate directly with you and will retaliate against you for complaints you make about the studio.

I first saw the performance of Hula Halau 'O Pi'ilani at the Ia 'Oe A Kala competition in 2006. I fell in love with their style. Gracious and authentic. I made up my mind to join them when my baby grew up a bit!! Fast forward, I joined when I lived back in Cali and now, I live in Hawaii. I still learn from Kumu. You might call me crazy, why not join a halau, here? Well, I still had not decided to make a commitment to a halau since my move here 3 years ago and so now that she started ZOOM classes, I had to join. I was in Japan when the pandemic got worse so I jumped on this opportunity. It's so convenient in the comfort in your home. There has been people joining from across the continent. It's a great opportunity to start what you have always been wanting to try and now is the perfect time, to take care of yourself in this way. And most of all, the reason I stick with Kumu Kanani? Because she's awesome. Caring, funny (well, hilarious), warm, her voice is great, her music is relaxing, and her style that has been passed down from her mother who was the original Kumu, is gracious and pretty. Every halau has their own style and every one of them is different. Kumu Kanani is willing to spread the Hawaiian culture and is generous to share it. Come and enjoy hula, ukulele with us! For younger children and for recreational dancers I think that it can't be beat - we tried other studios years ago and they never felt as comfortable in any as they did at Infinity. They had a lot of fun, especially in tap and jazz, and the recitals are wonderful to participate in and watch. Mine did end up doing some of the competitive level dancing and that is where I found issues. It's very cliquey, not so much with the children/teens, but with the teachers. There are some very talented dancers who have competed with Infinity for years and they definitely take precedence over other dancers. I understand why this happens, however, when you speak with other parents you certainly see that when dancers who are not in this particular group make a competitive team they: Are moved towards the back of the dance and ignored Are asked to stay in a lower level of a comp team for "more practice" until next year...then never moved up In my time there I witnessed many parents moving their children to different studios so that they were pushed to the next level and did not remain stagnant. It's disappointing to see your children trying so hard to advance themselves but not having the teachers push them or give them constructive criticism/feedback. I think this could be a great studio if the teachers and the owners were willing to really work with all students, and not just the "star" dancers. It's too late for mine but I hope they take this feedback to heart.

We did move forward with the Toddler class, which I really appreciated that they offer a hands-off class. Every kid is different, and I feel great where the kids participate independently. It's been fun watching her grow in confidence while having so much fun. Her teacher does a great job keeping a room full of toddlers engaged, and the class has a predictable flow that's perfect for this age. It gives the kids structure while keeping it playful. Plus, seeing all the little dancers in their tutus and leotards is just adorable. I also love that they offer an optional spring recital, along with pop-up events and summer camps throughout the year. As a parent, I appreciate the open viewing area where you can comfortably watch class. They also offer makeup classes when possible (I believe on a case-by-case basis), which is a nice option with little ones. Just a heads-up that there isn't a parent restroom, but there's a Smart & Final right next door if needed. Overall, it's been a wonderful dance experience for my daughter. It feels like they're creating a fun, welcoming community, and I'd definitely recommend checking them out.

Yes they do teach ballet, but definitely in a fun way that's engaging for the girls. They have special events like Elsa event that we did and it was enjoyable. I recommend those events too.

We've been to places where the staff clearly has no regard for child development and/or are too overbearing wanting children to perform every exercise perfectly when it's recreational gymnastics. They understand toddlers are who they are and they let them be without adding undue pressure to parents. They also gently redirect children who are having a challenging time following along and do great modeling for English learners like my children. The staff here is thoughtful and has made sure to say their goodbyes to the kiddos when they are moving on from leading a class. My children have gained incredible confidence and gymnastics is the one activity they never wants to miss. This place is worth every penny!

The instructor gives an overall list of many activities and expects the parent to remember all of them and then guide their child individually through the tasks. It doesn't work well at all. You really feel like you're on your own with a whole floor of equipment in front of you that you don't know what to do with. I wouldn't call that guidance from an instructor. This pertains to the five and under. I don't know what it's like for older children. This occurred at race Street. I don't know the name of the instructor. I would assume all instructors are functioning within what they're taught to teach the children. I would assume that the instructors are all uniform in there way of teaching classes. If this is not the case then maybe it should be. I think that this gymnasium can do a lot better. When I took my children there 25 years ago it was a lot better The coaches actually gave guidance to the parents step by step along the way so that it worked well.
