I hired this mariachi group for my baby's first birthday, a big event I wanted to be remembered for years to come. We had a contract in place, I paid my deposit, got written confirmation from them that the event was all set in place and they NEVER SHOWED UP. I tried to confirm with them the day before, the day of, I called and texted, messaged them on their business Instagram page and still have heard nothing. No response, no explanation, no refund of my deposit. I've had to open up a dispute since they have not responded. To say I was disappointed is putting it lightly. Not only is this kind of thing unprofessional but it's also incredibly rude and uncaring. If I had known they were going to do this I could have hired a different group that would actually have shown up. I would never recommend them to anyone and hope that this review will help someone in the future to not make the same mistake I did by trusting that they will actually show up to your event.

I was hoping I would have been giving a good review. However, I felt lead on and then ignored/blocked. After contacting various mariachis, I thought my luck finally struck. We had agreed on a time and day to do the deposit and signing. Then I asked when/where... and no response. I waited thinking maybe they were really busy or something. Still nothing, so my guess is they found a gig with better hours. Probably just blocked me, which I think is messed up. Could've let me know. If they're not willing to play an hour, they should do a requirement of 2 or more hours. (Which a lot of mariachis told me they required 3 hours, and that is understanding) Instead of wasting peoples times. Anyways goodluck to whoever wants to try and contract them.

The acoustics from the Swan Lake Ballet production were phenomenal. My daughter who is 6 six years in ballet training has now moved to pointe technique level this year and was amaze with the Swan Lake production. Theater location is in the heart of downtown Stockton. Plenty of street paid parking but I chose to have a little more security/surveillance parking 1 block away from the venue that cost $20. The parking lot is very small, and the attendants were very friendly but limited parking spaces. I suggest getting there early as the good parking fills up. The people working at the theater were very professional and welcoming. The ushers helped walk you to your seats. They sell drinks but I'm not sure if they sell a variety of food. I see people only with popcorn and candy treats. They also have an adult beverage bar. Con: While the show is going on, please do not allow people to come and be seated. Allow for production breaks in between, I know they have them. Everyone is standing up every 5 minutes allowing people to be seated through-out the show. Patrons please be on time it's not the movies or ball game! Lol Awesome venue will be back!

All seats are put in a decent way - even the corner seatings don't miss out. I bought seats for the middle column a little before the balcony and it was perfect! Plenty of restrooms and not too difficult to find parking - street parking and there are a couple of garages nearby. My only shock was there was no heating inside the theater during December and it was super surprising. Glad I was all bundled up that night!

Stockton School of Performing Arts - Getting ready for performance !

I signed my daughter up for the age 4-6 ballet class. This was our first time at dance class, for her and me, so let me preface this with that--I have no idea how a dance school should be run, but I'm pretty sure, this isn't it. There are about ten kids in this age group, but they run the class at the same time as the next age group up--that has another ten kids in it--so when you pay for that hour of class time what you're actually getting is half an hour because when they're working with the older group, your kid is sitting on the filthy floor getting her pretty pink(required uniform) ballet clothes absolutely dirty. That's twenty kids with the owner and an instructor "teaching them." I warned the owner that she is a pretty wild kid at the beginning of the first class--I mean let's be real, she's four--and it was obvious by the end of the class, she was annoyed with her. After the second class, she said that she was having trouble working with her, but that it usually takes 6 classes for them to get the hang of it. My daughter just finished her third class, and the owner kicked her out of the class saying she wasn't ready. Well...from what I can see no kid is going to be ready if it requires the owner to put forth any effort with them. She herself spends half the classes sitting down on her cell phone, but parents aren't supposed to see this because there's no watching your kids while they dance. There's no cameras or window into the room. There is a large window to the outside, but when I asked her if I could watch from there she said as long as she doesn't see me. I watched from my car for the three classes, and I saw enough. The owner put forth zero effort with trying to teach my kid anything. If you expect small children to behave like cattle, and just do as their supposed to, then this is the place for you. But if you expect more, like for your kid to have fun and to actually learn something--and to be able to JUST BE A KID--steer clear of this establishment. Needless to say, we will not be returning in August as she suggested. Complete waste of time. The only good thing I have to say is that the young instructor(can't recall her name)seemed very patient and kind with my daughter, regardless of how the owner treated her, she should be acknowledged for that. About the only good thing this place has going for them.

They stretched, did a few ballet moves (1st, 2nd, 3rd positions and Demi-pliés) and then danced in semi-silly, and semi ballet-like ways. It was adorable! The only thing that surprised me was that the dancers are separated from the parents during class. There is a large window where you can watch, but my child is a little clingy so it was an issue. Luckily, they allowed me to remain in the dance area for her comfort, which I appreciated. Then about halfway through, she needed to go potty. Afterwards, I was able to send her in with the other dancers alone. The parent area is HUGE! There are toys to play with, lots of (comfortable) places to sit, and even cold water and soda on sale ($1.00 each). Also, there are Ballet shoes available to borrow for free if you aren't ready to buy your own, or if your dancer forgot yours. The building doesn't look like much from the outside, but I was super happy with what I found inside. Oh! My $10 trial class fee? It was applied 100% to her first month tuition. ($50) Also, my daughter has a physical disability, and wears a brace on one leg. They didn't even bat an eye. Just asked me about what her limitations were. Highly, highly recommend!

Being on the competitive team was amazing and the best experience as it's super challenging and all the girls really help each other. You have to get selected to be on the team, so if you try your hardest, anyone has a chance. The owners, Janie and Elizabeth, are total sweethearts! The teachers, though I think they've changed a bit in the past couple years, are great! The dances are all creative and have fun music. Recitals are great and all the time that the teachers spend prepping your kids for it is really special. Overall it's a very challenging and positive atmosphere as all the teachers push you to do your best and to give your all. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new studio in the area.

Arabesque Belly Dance - Teaching class at City Dance

I went to a couple different classes from different teachers in the city, one of which was Asia's Saturday class at City Dance. Although I mostly flailed around that first class, I was really moved by the power of dancing to live music and the grace that the other, more experienced dancers showed. Serendipitously, Asia was starting up her beginning bellydance class at Ocean Yoga in Pacifica on Wednesdays that very week. I have been going to one or both of these classes every week for the past 9 months and couldn't be happier. If I had to describe Asia's teaching style in one word, it would be "well-rounded." For starters, Asia is a literal treasure-trove of knowledge about middle eastern dances. She shows us many different moves and routines from traditional cultural dances and often talks a little bit about the history of them. I enjoy her classes specifically because she provides a firm foundation like this, but then shows us ways to draw from these different traditions to make new routines and styles. Her knowledge and passion extends well beyond just the dancing, though. She has a strong musical background (also her husband is one of the Saturday class drummers) and often talks about how to interpret the music and connect it with the movements and pattern of the dance. She highly encourages us to work with zils--even when we hate it--specifically so that we are more connected to the music. I have ZERO musical background and have learned so much about understanding rhythms and parts of a song from this alone. She also has many hilarious stories from her personal history as a professional dancer. I've seen many people come and go from the class, likely because they are intimidated by the work and commitment it takes to really get good (Ive been doing weekly classes for nine months and im still discovering new muscle groups in my hips and low back). But if you are committed to learning the dance, or even if all you want to do is come out and have fun and flail around to live music and learn a little bit about the art of another culture, then Asia's classes are the place to be.
