Initially this place gives you nostalgia. You feel like you're back at your old music store as a kid. They've got many of the accessories needed for brass and wind students. He also had some pretty cool harmonicas as well. But, it is as others have stated. He has this attitude that feels like "you don't know what you're talking about, you're not going to purchase anything, so therefore, you need to get out right now." He didn't say those things but that's how it felt. Even when he gave good information about the products and tried to be nice (I can tell that he was trying) it still felt cold. I want to love this place. I feel bad for him simply because most of the mom and pop music stores have been obliterated by big box stores like Sam Ash and Guitar Center. So maybe this is his response to that.

He has several custom built amps as well as a drum kit set up and a giant computer where he can record whatever you want. It seems he has every tool imaginable to help his students learn, making the possibilities limitless for what you can do in there. I was instantly relieved when I stepped foot into his studio because the air conditioner was cranked up and it was a very hot day outside! It was much nicer than other teaching studios I had been in. His teaching area is very comfortable and a great environment to foster learning and really get into a lesson. Daniel is a super nice guy who really takes the time to talk to you and understand your situation. He was very good at helping and guiding me in the exact direction I wanted to go. He is extremely knowledgeable and has studied with the most talented and renowned musicians at UCSD so he knows music theory and guitar theory from the ground up. He even took the time to explain the differences in amp and speaker cabinet designs and the effects they have on guitar tone when I was curious about his gear. He is great at explaining concepts and really knows his stuff. All in all Daniel is definitely one of the top guitar teachers in San Diego. His comfortable studio is jam packed with cool guitar gear and teaching tools and he is one of the coolest guys you could ever want to take lessons from. I definitely recommend Daniel for all your lesson needs.

After 13 years of lessons I decided to boycott any instrument playing for the next 12 years of my life. Recently I decided it was time to once again give learning an instrument another shot. This time, I wanted to play contemporary music that I enjoyed and I wanted to learn the electric guitar. I found Daniel Page on the internet and was instantly impressed with his vast knowledge and professionalism. I came to his studio as a beginner with absolutely no knowledge of the guitar. He helped me pick out my first guitar which is a telecaster that I absolutely love. He has given me recommendations and advice on everything from purchasing amps, metronomes, tuners, and has even taught me the basics like how to change guitar strings. Taking lessons at his studio is a completely different experience than what I endured during piano lessons. Daniel is laid back and patient which is very important when dealing with beginning students. He explains things thoroughly and encourages me to ask questions. He always lets me choose the songs that I want to learn and he breaks down the hard parts to make them more manageable. I've only been taking lessons for 6 months now, and I am amazed at the progress I have made. His teaching has inspired me and my appreciation for the guitar has grown tremendously. I highly recommend Daniel Page to both beginning and advanced guitar players that want to take their abilities to the next level.

I stopped in here a few months ago and had a lovely time as usual. When I realized today that after…read morea lifetime of patronizing this store, I had never written a review, I wanted to rectify that immediately. I was absolutely shocked when I opened the app and read the bad reviews on here. I made sure to read every single one of them and I think if you do that, you begin to see a pattern of people who are ridiculous and think that because they had a bad day or completely unrealistic expectations, they can strike out against a good business because they take no responsibility for their decisions. The Music Box has been the sole music store in Lodi for over 40 years. I "rented" my first violin from them when I was a small child and we purchased my sons trombone for band here 20 years later. At that time I was a single working mom and they allowed me to put my sons instrument on a payment plan. I actually missed the last payment because I had started working a second job and forgot to drop off the check. When I realized what I had done about a week later, I made sure to plan out a time to stop in at the store and pay off the instrument and apologize. However the day before I was to do that, I received a letter from the owner of this store. I fully expected it to be a demand letter with a late fee tacked on and I was ready for that as it was my own fault. Instead, the owner wrote that he understood I was working hard and was very busy and that he would like to gift me the last payment and let my son keep the instrument. I literally cried. Every experience I have had here has been beyond good. This is a small town store that stays alive because the owner and employees love what they do. The staff is thoughtful and caring as a customer for many many years, I highly recommend them for instruments, accessories, lessons, music or just to help you figure out what it is you need and I hope to see this store here for another 40 years to come.

I asked the guy behind the counter for a couple sets of classical guitar strings. He first reached for D'Addarios but I related my experience with broken strings with only that brand. He told me there was a brand of strings he sells the most of and handed me two sets of Fender strings. I was a little skeptical. I mean they were half the price of D'Addarios and packed in a somewhat plain paper package but why not? Guess what?! They're really good strings! They didn't break, they didn't slip at all and they brought the tone back to my 35 year old Takamine 300 series guitar. Now, here's where it gets cosmic. As I was paying for the strings a voice behind me says "what is your name?" And then "Where do you know me from?" I didn't immediately recognize who it was because of the glare from the windows but when I did I was gobstopped! It was none other than Tim Spencer! When I have any questions about how to help my kids play pieces they've learned she explains everything to me clearly. She doesn't mind me asking questions outside of lesson time either. I am always amazed how beautifully my kids play from their lesson books, especially being that my kids have never heard many of the songs they've been playing (ie. Theme from Swan Lake)! They can take a music piece, read it, and play it, not having heard the actual music for it anywhere, and it sounds just like the music piece! She is one that will not teach "music by ear" and I am so grateful for that! I highly recommend Theresa to anyone who wants their kid to appreciate actually learning music. She is so worth it!

We have been going here consistantly a couple of times a week for about a year and a half. I could not be happier with Gordon Kennedy(Owner), and the amount of growth in music he has provided for my children. They regularly have venues where your kids can participate whether it be playing an instrument or singing in front of a crowd. They have many different rooms for different voice lessons, piano, guitar, or any instrument you can think of. They even have a band room set up so that the bands can practice. When my fifth child is old enough, he will definitely be joining his four siblings studying music at this location. Every teacher is highly skilled, patient, very polite, and makes you feel like part of a family, as do the other students. In short, we came in and my boyfriend, who is a drummer for over 20 years, noticed a drum kit on the floor. He sat down and started to play, quite gently, just tapping out a beat. Within 30 seconds, a guy comes charging over, scolding us on how disrespectful it is to touch / play someone else's drums. Huh? There was no signs saying not to touch, or that it was someone's personal drum kit. My boyfriend immediately got up and apologized, and the guy again said how disrespectful it was to play someone else's drums. My boyfriend apologized again. After that we left the store, but were genuinely confused about a couple things: 1.) If the shop doesn't want people to play the instruments that are out on the floor, why isn't there a sign or something that says that on the instrument? (Btw, totally understandable if that is the case, I get it, a music shop probably has many people coming in wanting to touch things, and I could see where issues arise.) 2.) Why does someone have their "personal" drum kit out of the floor to begin with? Seems like a bad spot for someone who doesn't want their things touched. This encounter happened during the downtown wine event, and perhaps staff were dealing with the shop being more crowded than usual, but I have to say, we were in no way being rough or disrespectful with those drums. Again, this is not a judgement of the shop itself, which actually seems quite nice, but if this is how staff treat people, it could make potential customers not want to come back, especially someone who can legitimately play.
