In short, we came in and my boyfriend, who is a drummer for over 20 years, noticed a drum kit on the floor. He sat down and started to play, quite gently, just tapping out a beat. Within 30 seconds, a guy comes charging over, scolding us on how disrespectful it is to touch / play someone else's drums. Huh? There was no signs saying not to touch, or that it was someone's personal drum kit. My boyfriend immediately got up and apologized, and the guy again said how disrespectful it was to play someone else's drums. My boyfriend apologized again. After that we left the store, but were genuinely confused about a couple things: 1.) If the shop doesn't want people to play the instruments that are out on the floor, why isn't there a sign or something that says that on the instrument? (Btw, totally understandable if that is the case, I get it, a music shop probably has many people coming in wanting to touch things, and I could see where issues arise.) 2.) Why does someone have their "personal" drum kit out of the floor to begin with? Seems like a bad spot for someone who doesn't want their things touched. This encounter happened during the downtown wine event, and perhaps staff were dealing with the shop being more crowded than usual, but I have to say, we were in no way being rough or disrespectful with those drums. Again, this is not a judgement of the shop itself, which actually seems quite nice, but if this is how staff treat people, it could make potential customers not want to come back, especially someone who can legitimately play.

Our initial intention was to teach our children perseverance and not easily giving up in the process of learning ballet. We wanted them to stand tall and not hunch when they're on their feet. Under the dedicated guidance of Mrs. Chris for over a year, their ballet skills have made significant improvements. They can confidently perform the learned dance steps in the recital which held every six months. As parents, this makes us incredibly proud.

He has several custom built amps as well as a drum kit set up and a giant computer where he can record whatever you want. It seems he has every tool imaginable to help his students learn, making the possibilities limitless for what you can do in there. I was instantly relieved when I stepped foot into his studio because the air conditioner was cranked up and it was a very hot day outside! It was much nicer than other teaching studios I had been in. His teaching area is very comfortable and a great environment to foster learning and really get into a lesson. Daniel is a super nice guy who really takes the time to talk to you and understand your situation. He was very good at helping and guiding me in the exact direction I wanted to go. He is extremely knowledgeable and has studied with the most talented and renowned musicians at UCSD so he knows music theory and guitar theory from the ground up. He even took the time to explain the differences in amp and speaker cabinet designs and the effects they have on guitar tone when I was curious about his gear. He is great at explaining concepts and really knows his stuff. All in all Daniel is definitely one of the top guitar teachers in San Diego. His comfortable studio is jam packed with cool guitar gear and teaching tools and he is one of the coolest guys you could ever want to take lessons from. I definitely recommend Daniel for all your lesson needs.

After 13 years of lessons I decided to boycott any instrument playing for the next 12 years of my life. Recently I decided it was time to once again give learning an instrument another shot. This time, I wanted to play contemporary music that I enjoyed and I wanted to learn the electric guitar. I found Daniel Page on the internet and was instantly impressed with his vast knowledge and professionalism. I came to his studio as a beginner with absolutely no knowledge of the guitar. He helped me pick out my first guitar which is a telecaster that I absolutely love. He has given me recommendations and advice on everything from purchasing amps, metronomes, tuners, and has even taught me the basics like how to change guitar strings. Taking lessons at his studio is a completely different experience than what I endured during piano lessons. Daniel is laid back and patient which is very important when dealing with beginning students. He explains things thoroughly and encourages me to ask questions. He always lets me choose the songs that I want to learn and he breaks down the hard parts to make them more manageable. I've only been taking lessons for 6 months now, and I am amazed at the progress I have made. His teaching has inspired me and my appreciation for the guitar has grown tremendously. I highly recommend Daniel Page to both beginning and advanced guitar players that want to take their abilities to the next level.

I didn't just want the regular workout at a gym so, I decided I wanted to get back into dancing like I did almost 20 years ago. I went on to Yelp to lookup any local halau's near me and I ran across Hula Ikaika Ohana O Kaawai-E Honu Iti E in Tracy. I spoke with Kumu Renee and she made me feel right at home from the minute I met her. It's been since July 18' that I decided to join this halau and it was the best decision I made. Would we have continued coming here for 12 years if it wasn't so? During that time I've started dancing too. My sons even dance once in a while. This halau is like family and you are treated that way the moment you walk through the door. It has been great seeing my kids grow up with all their halau sisters and brothers. The wonderful ladies I dance with have all become my sisters as well. Kumu Renee is a more than qualified Kumu Hula (hula instructor). Certified at that! Not many Kumu out there are. She was taught by one of the best and it shows in her dedication to her dancers. She does not teach you simply how to dance, but you are taught the history, the culture and the language so you can dance educated. There are a lot of people out there who are taught how to dance but not taught the meaning. Hula and Tahitian dancing tells a story with every step, every sway or hand movement and she teaches us that. It's more important than learning the dance itself. Kumu Renee is very proud of her students and she encourages them through every stage of developing into the best dancer they can be. This halau is a performing halau. They do shows all of the time, for many occasions. But they also dance competitively. If you find yourself stopping by the halau you can see the many awards won in previous years. There are separate classes for the little kids, I believe the youngest dancer is 3! Then there are beginner classes, intermediate and advanced classes too. So it doesn't matter what skill level you are at, you can join. When my daughter first started here she had zero experience. After a while of course she improved and never looked back. It was one of the best decisions I've made to bring her here all those years ago. I'd do it again in a heart beat.
