Upon arrival at this popular spot to locals, with its cozy and casual interior decked out in traditional Mexican vibes, we were greeted by the staff and immediately got a table by the entrance, but they also have outdoor dining, weather permitting. The menu selection is much smaller than at other restaurants. We decided on the Cheese Enchiladas, Beef Enchiladas, California Burrito, Beef Burrito, Chicken Fries with Fries, and Shrimp Fajitas. Some meals are accompanied with a small portion of rice and black beans. Complimentary house chips and salsa started our meal. As the restaurant is working on their liquor license, it's BYOB. One can bring your own tequila or wine, and the staff will mix it with their sangria or margarita mixes. We washed our meal down with a pitcher of sangria. The presentation was very good. The food was made incredibly fresh, well seasoned, deliciously tasty, and generous. The price was very reasonable for the area. Great local Mexican food that is BYOb. I Can't believe we waited so long to try it. They have a covered patio on the side for outdoor seating. The inside is not that big so be sure to go early or call ahead. The food was excellent and portions were a decent size. The meal starts with complimentary chips and salsa. Had a craving for some Mexican food so we decided to make our way over for dinner one Thursday at around 8 PM. There were a few tables dining and some takeout orders at that time. To start, they give you some complimentary chips and salsa, which I really appreciate. We ordered some tacos al pastor as an app, and these were pretty good. For my main, I had the chorizo quesadilla. It's a pretty big portion, which they cut into four pieces and since I had already eaten 2 tacos, I ate one piece of the quesadilla and was already full. The chorizo was good. It wasn't too oily. Hubby had the wet burrito with beef. I don't like soggy burritos, but he seemed to enjoy it. Been coming here for years and realized I've never left a review. Except for a Mexican restaurant in Secaucus, you won't find much better Mexican food in the area besides Mariachi Grill. We haven't dined in since pre-C19 when they still had the long bar along the right side of the restaurant. There's definitely more seating now, which is a great thing. Parking is street-only but you can normally find a spot pretty easily. Service has always been attentive, fast, and friendly. But the food is chef's kiss! The complimentary chips and salsa are fantastic. Definitely better when you get them fresh and in person versus driving them home 15-20 minutes away when you do pickup. I normally stick to chicken fajitas or empanadas, but this time, had the shrimp fajitas. Decent amount of shrimp, but it's honestly pretty hard to mess up fajitas. I've never had a complaint about them. My GF usually likes their quesadillas but ever since she had their green sauce, she can't get enough of the enchiladas, which are covered in it. I think if she could buy a 5-gallon container, she would. I highly recommend Mariachi Grill. I used to drive here from Secaucus, and now I drive here from Montclair (because there's no good Mexican food in Montclair, especially at this price point). read more

For Taco Tuesday, I stopped at Mariachi Grill and got dinner to go. I ordered online, which was a very smooth process and everything was ready when I got there. There is street parking only, so this could potentially be a problem but wasn't for me in this particular case. Everyone was very helpful when I got there and they even called me fairly quickly after I ordered as they had to alter something slightly. We started with the chips and guac, the flautas and the al pastor tacos. Both my wife and myself got the chicken burrito. Guacamole was very good and a very generous portion. The flautas were interesting. Not something I would get again but that's just because it really wasn't my thing. The tacos were very good. The burrito was excellent. Extremely tasty. So why 4 stars opposed to 5? The chips that came with the guac had melted cheese which hardened by the time I got home. It was just very odd. Also, the burrito just came as a burrito in a takeout tin. No rice or beans. Again, I just found that very odd especially being that the price kind of made sense if it came with rice and beans. All in all, a very solid place for Mexican food. I may try it again and eat in the next time. Everything was solid all around. There was just a few weird things that threw me a curveball. This very casual, brightly colored Mexican BYOB restaurant located on Ridge Road in Lyndhurst was an unexpectedly good dining experience. Mariachi Grill offers terrific service and generous portions of authentic Mexican cuisine - specializing in traditional burritos, fajitas, chicken and steak entrees, seafood, and salads - at a reasonable price. Based solely on Yelp reviews and ratings, my dining companions and I stopped by Mariachi Grill for dinner on a recent Friday night after a visit to a nearby microbrewery in Carlstadt. To be Frank, we were somewhat worried about our decision to try Mariachi Grill after we walked into a completely empty restaurant at 745pm on a Friday. I think this an establishment caters to locals rather than being a 'drive to' destination and the rainy weather that night kept most of the regular customers at home to order take-out or delivery (which seemed to be happening a lot while we were there). At our server's recommendation, we added an order of the guacamole to the complimentary tortilla chips and freshly-made garlic-forward salsa served as soon as we sat down, which was freshly-made and very tasty. I had the Mariachi Chicken Mole ($23), comprised of a generous portion of thinly-pounded chicken breast smothered with mole sauce and served with a side of rice and beans. The homemade mole sauce was very tasty and the portion size was very filling. My regular dining companion initially said she'd wanted something light but opted instead for the Camarones in Garlic Sauce ($24), a dish comprised of sautéed shrimp stewed with peppers and onions in a red garlic sauce and served with a side of rice and beans, which she enjoyed very much (and cleaned her plate). Had lunch at Mariachi Grill and had a pleasant experience. We were quickly greeted and seated by a very friendly server. The complimentary chips and homemade salsa were very good. The salsa was so tasty and, I could tell, that it was freshly prepared. We ordered the Chicken Tortilla Soup, Cheese Quesadilla, and their new "Wet Burrito." If you order the Wet Burrito remember, that the red sauce is s-p-i-c-y! Not uncomfortably spicy, but it has a kick. Every item that we ordered was delicious and the soup was large. Mariachi is a great option for Mexican food in the area. My boyfriend will forever fight over the best spot for some tacos. Mariachi is great but I feel like it has a little more of a Tex mex flair rather than being really authentic. Still good tho! Their nachos are pretty good - they come with all the fixings and their al pastor is delicious. My boyfriend always always always gets the chorizo empanadas and honestly it's worth what you're paying for it because the amount of chorizo in each one is pretty great. Served with some rice and beans. I've tried their chicken burrito and their al pastor tacos. I'll probably stick to their tacos since they were really good. Served with cilantro and onions. They have drink mixes and you can bring your own as well. Don't sleep on their churros they're pretty good too! Street parking can get a little tough on this main road but you're always able to find something. They also have a nice sized outdoor area for the summer, which is really fantastically decorated. There was a day in Feb where the weather was kind of nice to sit outside so I was trying to find an outdoor spot. This place showed up and it's so close to our house so I wanted to give them a try. When I had called to ask about outdoor seating they were so friendly too! When I got there, I realized it was a Covid-protocols outdoor seating but not truly outside - so just bare that in mind. We were basically sitting in an indoor area. Anyways the food was delicious. We share the chicken taquitos which were great especially with their salsa on top. Ordered takeout this weekend and ended up ordering a bunch of stuff. My favorites were the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and the shrimp tacos. My husband enjoyed the chicken wet burrito. Live in the area and they've been on my radar but the prices deterred me for trying them out. Portions are large and food was well made so the prices are justified. Chicken enchiladas with green sauce were good and had a surprisingly spicy kick. Steak fajitas were plentiful and not overcooked. Complimentary chips and salsa were appreciated. Service was great. Warning: this review is coming from someone whose family has ventured to the likes of Chipotle and Chevy's far too many times over the years and have a warped sense of Mexican cuisine. My first visit here was a few years ago and it was the first (and only) time I had cactus (nopales!) in a shrimp dish but I wasn't impressed. Second visit was during a stunning warm autumn day in their side/outdoor set-up and it was like night and day between visits. Half the family went with the chicken fajitas and loved every part of it. One kid went with their steak (too much fat on there!) which also came with some butterflied shrimp and he dug it. And this time around I went with their chicken in green sauce and I gotta tell you - with each bite I kept muttering, "They need to bottle this sauce, they need to..." You know when you're full but something is so darn good that you intentionally become a glutton because it's just so addictive? That's this sauce. Third visit I saw some 'New Items' on the menu and tried the 'Wet Burrito' - because I saw that (in)famous green sauce mentioned. And yeah... this was another incredible dish. (Did I mention how that sauce elevates everything swimming in it?) BYOB. Pricing can cause sticker shock (especially when you're used to those chain-restaurants) but the portions are massive and there's always a few doggy-bags to take. Staff are always really kind and working hard to keep up with the tables and pick-up orders. Restaurant is simple, humble, sparse. (Last visit the main dining room was just a bit too warm and uncomfortable.) Complimentary chips (solid) and salsa (fresh) are good but I have to fess up: Chevy's salsa just has more razzamatazz (which I know is sacrilegious to admit). The parking situation stinks. The fam and I had a good meal at Mariachi after visiting the new American Dream mall in NJ. We were starving because the mall has yet to be fully functioning so there were slim pickings for lunch. We searched for some spots and my Yelper cuz (Mel E.) found Mariachi so we drove the 8 minutes to grab some grub before hitting the GWB to head back to our respective homes. Parking looks to only be on the street and is pretty scarce. We found parking on a side block across the street but crossing is a little precarious so be careful. There was no need to make a reservation (not sure if they take them anyway) because they were pretty empty when we first arrived but that was short-lived. Soon after we were seated, the other tables quickly filled up. By the time we left, the place was packed. They have a small dining room but the turnaround is pretty quick because the kitchen and the staff are on point. We all just ordered entrées because we had a pretty long day and just wanted to eat and leave. They don't have alcohol but if you bring your own tequila or wine, they'll make a pitcher of margarita or sangria for ten bucks which isn't too bad a deal. You're probably getting a better deal with a cheap bottle of red wine than buying a decent tequila. Hubby ordered his main and then headed to a nearby liquor store and brought back some tequila. They mixed our drink and brought a huge pitcher to the table. Not much of the tequila was used but yous till tasted it and whatever mix they use is really good. They served us chips and salsa while we waited for our meals which helped to satisfy the hunger pangs. We were all pretyu happy with our meals. I ordered the shrimp taco appetizer w/a side of guac. You get four soft tacos and they are dressed with everything like, onion, cactus and cilantro. They were very tasty. Our cuzzies had beef and chicken empanadas which were huge and each meal came with flavourful yellow rice and black beans; they did mention that the chicken empanadas were a little bland and dry but the beef flavour were really good. Hubby had the chicken mole which he enjoyed and our baby cuzzie had a kid's cheese quesadilla. The food was really good and the staff was very attentive. Their bathroom facility was very clean and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It was a nice relaxing end to an otherwise exhausting day. I doubt I would be back here just because we happened upon the place and I'm not local but they were a great visit and I can see that a lot of people who live in the area probably are regulars here. read more

This place is a solid 4.5 but I will round up. I am quite pleased with the meal I had here the other day with my gf. Chips were replenished and service was good and the food was tasty. Her burrito was very good and my steak fajitas were delicious. The fajitas are a bit expensive for $22, however it was well done. Also the setting outside, due to this pandemic we are all going through. Was nice with what they are able to do decor wise. I will go back for sure. Wasn't too crowded. The best restaurant in Lyndhurst is not Italian but Mexican and it's MG. I've eaten here over 10 times and it might be the best Mexican in Northern NJ. Everything is fresh, the portions are huge and the service is great. The one thing that must be ordered is an enchilada with mole negro. The mole is house made and it's just like a Mexican mother would make with love and tradition. The food scene in Lyndhurst improves every month but MG is a must experience. read more
