It's easy to call Dr. Kim a top dentist, she's ivy league trained and supremely skilled. She treats you like a family friend and always has your best interests at heart. But this review is about how she saved my life because she saw early signs of sleep apnea during one of my visits. She saw signs of decay and dryness towards the back of my molars and knew that I had impeccable oral hygiene habits. She asked if my wife commented that my snoring got worse recently and she did. Dr. Kim thought it could be sleep apnea and wrote me a referral for a sleep study. The sleep study results showed I had very severe sleep apnea that put me at high risk for stroke and heart attack. Without Dr. Kim noticing I would be at serious health risk with the sleep apnea going undiagnosed for longer. If Dr. Kim suspects you have sleep apnea listen to her. Oh and she's a top dentist too. I showed up on time for my and son's appointments made 6 months ago, but without notice, they were both cancelled. If you're like me, you probably don't look forward to sitting in the dental chair. That changed for me recently. Dr. Kim and staff certainly welcomed me in a safe and gentle capacity. Their level of conscientiousness stunned me. I started drafting this review in my head with my mouth open and the drill going on my tooth. I could not believe I was even thinking it, but in that moment I knew it was the best dental visit I had ever experienced. I recently read another book on parenting. I correlated it with my experience in Dr. Kim's office and my dental experience. (stay with me, it's going somewhere) There were four things the book said every parent should prioritize for their children and it definitely translates to adult life experiences and daily transactions as well. They are that the child should feel: 1) safe, 2) seen, 3) soothed, and 4) secure. Can you say that you've felt this way with your last dental visit? If not, I would highly recommend you give Dr. Kim and staff an opportunity to upgrade your experience. I felt all of those things ten fold. In addition to my concerns being mitigated and handled with the highest level of safety, courtesy, kindness and professionalism, I was also taken back by the extra wisdom she imparted upon me when I asked her a medically related question. I walked out of there with a skip in my step and a mouth that felt sturdy and secure with very little discomfort (if any at all) all things considered. They didn't try to push any additional expenses or procedures on me, they actually laid out an affordable path and focused on the matter at hand. It was a solution oriented approach with care. I've been taking my kids to Dr. Kim since they were 1 year old. I also have been seeing Dr. Kim since her mom retired (I used to see her mom, also wonderful.) I am a pediatrician and refer my patients to her. She has a welcoming office, professional and thorough hygienists, and Dr. Kim gives us very detailed and thorough assessments of our teeth. She is very patient and kind with kids, which is why my kids have been seeing her their entire life and why I refer her to my patients. She is a warm, friendly, and caring person who also cares about your overall health and health habits. Although I haven't had the courage to get my wisdom teeth out, she doesn't judge even though she has been recommending that I do so. I was so appreciative that she let me know I could do Invisalign even without removing my wisdom teeth and the outcome has been excellent! I've been going to Dr. Kim for 6 years now. I'll be honest and say that dental offices aren't exactly my ideal hangout spot. I had a horrific experience in middle school after an unnamed dentist extracted my tooth, pressing me against her bosom. Awkward. I recently got a wisdom tooth extraction from Dr. Kim and I was completely flabbergasted as to how much care and dedication she spent on me. She literally called to make sure I was ok (this was my first adult tooth extraction) on her cell phone OVER THE WEEKEND. We talked on the phone and she answered all my questions after checking up on me again the next day on Sunday. Otherwise, the extraction itself wasn't too bad and she is noted for having gentle hands, which is why I like going back to her a lot. Irma is also one of my favorites to see and has been with Dr. Kim since I started seeing her. She too has the gentle touch and I prefer her more than other staffers. I have also noticed that Dr. Kim employs fresh staff from time to time and though they start out pretty inexperienced, I've noticed them grow more experienced over time. Previously, I felt that Dr. Kim pushed a couple recommendations for services to me (which I didn't always take) but it has not been very much in the last 2 years. She's always been good at explaining certain procedures CLEARLY and dental hygiene follow-up to patients and she has gotten much better over the years. As always, ASK if you have questions. I usually ask for pricing before committing to any procedure aside from cleaning, which my insurance provides for. I also ask to see my x-rays to take a look at how they are and she also lets me snap pictures of them for my own determination of procedures. My experience with Dr. Kim is that she was an incompetent dentist who referred me to her pals to do the simple work that she could not do. Dr. Kim's office staff was rude and also have shown themselves to be incompetent. The tooth in question was a chipped wisdom tooth. Dr. Kim took 2 x-rays and said she could not do the work. She had her office employee refer me to their friends in Arcadia. The Arcadia location referred me to the Pasadena location. The Pasadena location was terrible, but that's for a different review. In Dr. Kim's case, it ended up being that she could not recognize that the tooth was practically out. By the end of the next day, I ended up at a different dental business in Arcadia and the dentist there just looked at it and it just popped out. No surgery, no stitches. The tooth was in such a state, that it was coming out on its own. Why couldn't Dr. Kim see this? To be clear, she looked at my teeth and the x-rays. Regarding the office staff, they were not just rude, but incompetent. The visit was a few days into February 2023. They have recently sent me a text and email...in late May... asking me to pay $13. that they claim to have mistakenly not added to my invoice at the time. Think of how ridiculous this is...they want me to believe that 3 months later they found that I owe them $13. and, despite the problems, inconvenience, and time they created, they want to make a point of $13. This is the experience I have had with Dr. Kim's business. Based on this experience I would not recommend her or her office staff. read more

I had my first appointment with Maria Kim DMD yesterday and it was my first dentist visit in 7 YEARS! So you could imagine how nervous I was. I let her and her assistant (Irma) know and they were soooo sweet. Through the x-rays, terra scan and cleaning they were gentle and let me know exactly what they were doing (the terra scan was so awesome, they even let me take a selfie with it and they got in the pics lol). They did baby steps and let me take a break whenever I needed it. I especially loved how Maria Kim DMD took the time to get to know me a little bit when she came in and explained everything. She answered all my questions and let me know why I have the issues I have, all with a smile! Irma was very sweet too she made me feel relaxed through the x-rays and terra scan by talking to me about our common hobby throughout. The receptionist Esther was very sweet and helpful too. She broke down my future treatments and the costs for me, which was super helpful. A second assistant/hygienist came in at the end too and gave me some very helpful hygiene tips (I didn't get his name!). I would highly recommend this place especially if you're an anxious person like me, or if you like things explained to you, or if you simply need a dentist with a gentle touch. I'm anxious for my future appointments because they will be more intense than a simple cleaning BUT I feel much more at ease knowing this staff aims to help me and make things easy and pleasant for me. I've finally found a dentist that I like as much as the one I had when I was growing up. First, Dr. Kim's demeanor is lovely. She is kind in the way she addresses her staff and patients. While I was having my work done, it was so nice to hear her thank her assistants frequently. She is also acutely aware of specific needs of the patient. After having a temporary crown put in, I thought I'd be in some pain but had no soreness. Lastly, her office is so cute! It's in a converted mid-century modern house. The dentist is something that I always dread going to but I trusted yelp in our new neighborhood and I am so glad that I did! From the minute I called to make the appointment until we left after our appointment we were confronted with only kindness and hospitality. Maria and her staff are the sweetest team of people that I have met at a dentist clinic. Everyone is friendly and they will make sure you are in good hands all the time. Very impressed with Maria's professionalism. She is friendly, cheerful, patient, kind and very efficient in fixing my problem every time I go to her. Had a dental surgery done by Maria recently, she was very focused throughout the entire surgery and it doesn't take long before I realized it's done! She and the rest of the staff are super nice and professional, and great at explaining whatever procedure you're having done/their recommendations in a way that everyone can understand and feel comfortable with. I got teeth deep cleaning last week and two wisdom teeth extracted yesterday at Dr. Kim's office. I was surprised how easily she took my teeth out, less time and effort than I opened a red wine bottle (my wisdom teeth grew vertically so no cut needed). She paid much attention on my feeling and gave me more anesthesia if I still felt the pain. At first, she used gel to numb my gum and then injected anesthesia to numb deeper tissue. So the whole process just caused very little pain, less painful than I squeezed the pimple. All her staff are super nice and easy to work with. Highly recommended! read more

I called Dr. Kim's office to make an appointment as a new patient. The office staff gave me a really hard time on just the insurance. She did not give me any chance to explain what kind of insurance I had and proceeded to tell me what insurance I had. I couldn't even get through to her that I understood my responsibilities in payment. It's obvious that the office staff does not LISTEN, they just want to TELL YOU. I didn't have a chance to experience the dentist. She could be great, but I'll never know thanks to her staff. read more
