While waiting for my order at The Empanada Company, I saw Fair Grounds Cafe and it intrigued me. I…read moredecided to drop by a week later, as I was in the area to get more empanadas. I found parking right in front of the cafe. It's diagonal, pull-in street parking. I walked in. It's a push to get through the door. I was immediately greeted by a friendly, accommodating staff member. I wanted a hot chocolate and asked about the four different ounce sizes. He showed me all the paper white cups. I went with the second-largest size. I also asked that I get soy or some non-dairy beverage added to it. Done! I have a weakness for baked goods. This cafe has vegan options, including pumpkin vegan muffins during my visit. Everything looked so goods, from brownies, to cookies. I saw the large cookie jars staring at me. My gosh, each cookie is larger than the palm of my hand and I have big hands! I wanted a s'mores one so badly. You basically take the tongs, grab your cookie, and place it in a paper bag. I got my hot chocolate and cookie that came to $9. It's not cheap, but it's fair trade goods. I expect to pay slightly more. There is a draft in the cafe, so the merchant bill that I had ripped off the machine before getting my bill blew off the counter and onto the floor. I let the man know, which he appreciated. You can pay by cash, and debit and credit cards. I also provided a tip. As usual, it's up to you. It was a bit of a challenge with full hands to get out of the cafe when you need to pull on the door handle to get out. Luckily, I put my hot chocolate on the bar-like table, pulled the door open, used my foot to keep it open, grabbed my drink, and moved quickly through the door. Problem solved! The hot chocolate is dark chocolate. I happen to love it. If you are more of a milk hot chocolate lover, you might find the hot chocolate to be missing sugar and perhaps taste bitter. I loved it. There was probably more soy in my drink than there should have been, but it was perfect for my less sugary needs. The s'mores cookie is extremely yummy! OMG, if I lived in the neighbourhood, I would buy the jar of cookies every day. It was buttery, chocolatey, and marshmallowy (I know, not a word, but whatever) delicious. It paired nicely with my hot chocolate, as it had slightly more sugar. I would come back just for this cookie alone. There were plenty of seats to sit down. If you sit by the bar-like area with stools, you get a nice view of the area. People-watching is casual in this cafe. It has a nice vibe. You can get a number of fair-trade coffee varieties. I am personally not a coffee connoisseur, but I appreciated both the selection and the cause. I like this cafe. I'd come back to give the muffins and more drink items a taste the next time I'm here. Another business, Tony's Focaccia, is also located inside the shop as well. The shop does require one to go up a few steps, however, once inside, the space is pretty big where there is some indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy your items. Menu wise, there are cookies, coffee, cold brews, ice teas, as well as milks available for purchase. They also have a cookie and cold brew combo for only $8. I stopped by Milk and Cookies on a Thurs afternoon shortly after they opened. The shop was quiet although there were 2 other customers enjoying their food on the patio. After some time I decided to grab a miso peanut butter with apply jam cookie as well as a regular cold brew. Service was friendly and staff were welcoming. I had my cookie and coffee afterwards which was great! The cookie wasn't overly sweet and I could taste the hints of peanut and miso in the cookie (not so much the apply jam). The cold brew was decent and tasty as well. Overall, a nice little spot for milk and cookies in Kensington Market!

A central workstation features a large table with seating for 4-6 people. However, the chairs lack back support and are quite uncomfortable - I ended up standing for the two hours I was there. The café offers Wi-Fi and has four outlets for charging devices. A small iced Americano costs $4.75 (tax included, no tip), though prices don't appear to be displayed anywhere in the store. The pastry selection is limited. Music consists of slow, relaxing tracks that match the café's ambiance, but the volume is a bit too high for conversation or focused work. Service was excellent - very friendly and polite. One staff member asked if the music was too loud and adjusted the volume when I said yes. Later, when I asked for a fork (despite not having ordered food), he kindly found one, washed and dried it in front of me, and handed it over. The washroom was relatively clean, though the handwashing station outside the washroom is cluttered, with items like a fridge and extra tables stored in the area.

The space is quite small with only about 8 seats altogether (I'm here at the end of winter so there may be additional outdoor seating in the summer) and it can feel a tad cramped if you like your space. What I ordered: - Oat Milk Matcha Latte Final Thoughts: I ordered the matcha after seeing a rave review, but I personally found it quite weak in matcha flavor and a tad powdery at the bottom of the cup. I've had better matcha elsewhere but would return to try other drinks and for the ambiance of the cafe! A bit of a hidden gem if you like cute, cozy cafes.

City Dance Corps and Cat's Eye Coffee is in a building with several businesses and companies as well, which makes it convenient for the employees to grab a good cup of coffee in the area. I stopped by Cat's Eye Coffee on a Thursday around noon. The staff was friendly. There were already two other customers chatting when I visited. I ordered a cappuccino which was made at a reasonable time. I also noticed the smoothies available, all which sounded delicious. They do use Pilot Coffee Roasters. I sat down to enjoy my cappuccino which was made well. Definitely a good cup of coffee around the Ossington/Dupont area!

It is quite compact with a handful of seating. One thing I would note about the atmosphere is that it may not be ideal for those who like to work at cafes because there is a lot of activity and movement from customers coming in and out from dance classes, including from excited children and chatter. Some may find this activity distracting. The washrooms are also shared with the dance company. I ordered a croissant that I got warmed in the toaster oven, which was a generous size and was satisfying and crispy. All the pastries and sandwiches are sourced through a partnership with the Petite Thuet bakery. The total cost came to about $4 CAD, which I would consider on par with a downtown cafe, and I felt happy with the quality of the pastry I received. If you are in the Dovercourt area, this cafe is a nice spot to drop by for a little bite and drink.

It is a good cozy space to get some work done, catch up with a friend, or simply go for a coffee and some baked goods. I stopped by Supercoffee on a Wed afternoon around 2pm. The cafe was half busy where there were some people working, some people chatting with others, and some just enjoying their beverages alone. Glancing at the big display of baked goods (everything looked so tasty!) and empanadas, I opted to grab a beef jalapeno empanada and a single shot cortado (love that they have the option of just a single shot!). Staff were friendly and my empanada was heated up quickly. Staff were nice enough to bring me my empanada to my table once it was ready. My cortado tasted great and my empanada came wide a side of pico de gallo which was nice, It was stuffed with shredded beef and the jalapenos gave it a nice kick. It was a good sized snack portion. After finishing my items I placed my dirty dishes in a bin close to the back of the room. Overall, a great coffee shop in the Davenport and Ossington area!
