I felt the vibe instantly, like as soon as I put one foot in the door. Magical, sophisticated, worldly, wonderful and more were the feelings that spontaneously hit me. The dark and elegant decor, lighting, design, & layout made me feel as though I were in a high-end Tokyo cocktail lounge. The front room as I mentioned is an intimate bar and lounge area with artwork adorning the walls. It's a modern, minimalist, and sleek space. The artwork is ever-changing (every couple of months or so) and the cocktail menu changes right long with it. Note: artwork is available for purchase. What an absolutely glorious way of combining different mediums (liquid art vs physical art). The craft cocktails & mocktails are the epitome of works of art. I've had great cocktails and mocktails elsewhere but honestly I'd be hard pressed to find anything on this level. You're taken into an entirely different realm just watching the genius of mixologists. It's mesmerizing watching them hone their craft. In the back of the lounge is an enclave of eclectic art and other pieces that then leads you to Konbini, the sushi bar. It's an industrial, warehouse vibe with a long counter that screams hip, Tokyo inspired, late-night eatery. Service is impeccable and welcoming at this cosmopolitan venue. It's truly an amazing experience.

I was pretty bothered by my experience here. Even aside from their mid drinks, it felt like we were constantly chasing down servers and they were only attentive when they needed something from us. We went to the photobooth to take pictures before we sat down, but the machine ate my money and broke down. I let a server know, and he came back and said he would comp $20 off of our meal, which I was happy about. I honestly only wanted them to refund me my $10 for the photobooth strip. However, they came back a few minutes later and gave us a photo card and told us to use it to pay for the photobooth and it could be used an unlimited amount of times. I was also happy with this solution, but what happened afterwards left a bad taste in my friends' and my mouth. We hadn't gotten menus or been asked what we wanted to order yet. We were just waiting around for drink menus and food menus, so we didn't want to get up and go take photos when they might come back to take our orders. The manager (?) came back to me a few minutes later and asked if we had taken photos yet, and I let him know that we were waiting to be given menus. He said someone else would give us menus, and another server gave us only a drink menu. A few minutes later, we are still waiting for food menus. The same manager came back and asked us to not lose the photo card. At this point, we were frustrated. Why come back constantly to ask for a photo card when we haven't even been given our food or our menus yet? When we finally got our food, a different server asked if we had given back the photo card yet. They were so pressed about getting this photo card back and not actually getting our orders, and we also thought it was a bit distasteful to offer a solution (the $20 off the meal) but then go back on it with the photo card. It was presented as "unlimited" swipes but we were rushed to give the card back, and realistically, we only had enough time to take one set of photos. The drinks themselves were truly just okay. I don't think any of us were particularly impressed with our drinks, but the interior of Papercut is really nice and intimate.

With my girlfriend coming into town, I knew it was the perfect chance. We booked a reservation ahead of time using OpenTable, and even though we showed up late, the owners Lawrence and Rachel were immediately friendly and accommodating to us. Located at the Affordable Storage shopping center just north of Hutto, Grapes & Rye is so comfortable inside that you don't even think about it being a converted storage unit. There's plenty of seating for parties of different sizes and chairs that are welcoming and comfortable for long visits. Their menu is impressively expansive with a seasonal fall menu and a regular menu packed with specialty cocktails, classics, and all the liquor needed to make anything you can think of. We were served water immediately once we sat down, which felt very inviting and made me feel welcomed in their space. On their big TV was the Wizards playing the Cavs, and there was the pinnacle of New Jack Swing and R&B playing inside. It was already a fantastic vibe. While we were debating our drinks, Lawrence came by, asked us what we liked, and made picks for us that we trusted. For me, he suggested an Aviation made with gin and maraschino liqueur that was practically glowing when placed in front of me. After my first sip, I patted myself on the back for a drink I didn't even choose. He nailed my preferences perfectly, and on top of that, the drink was one of the most refreshing and well-balanced cocktails I have ever had. As for my girlfriend, she was suggested a Vierre Caureux that she really seemed to enjoy. Our tastes in drinks are pretty different, but we both were very satisfied with Lawrence's suggestions. This led to us asking them about their origins and learning that Grapes & Rye is a passion project of theirs built on their love of bartending and cocktails. They do such a good job that it's hard not to imagine them doing it full time. We hung out for quite a while savoring our beverages before ordering another round. I ordered their Negroni that was easily one of the best Negronis I have ever had. It's so vividly impressive that I immediately want them catering all future events I go to, and I want to see them cater my wedding in like three years time. It's that good. My girlfriend got a Pink Lychee Spritz which she kept saying to me "that's really good" over and over again, showing that it wasn't just me who was impressed by their cocktail mastery. Next time she's in town, I know we'll be back because the drinks here are truly on a different plane of existence. Grapes & Rye has surpassed cocktail hour and become a cocktail experience, making beverages that are next level. They deserve all the success in the world, and it couldn't happen to a better duo. It was just four of us students with Lawrence and Rachel the owners, the perfect hosts. Lawrence explained every step and all the ingredients were measured out in little cups and this gave room for adding more or less of any ingredients, so you could make it your own depending on preferences. It reminded me of how they do this in cooking shows to save time and you can see at a glance all what goes into making a particular cocktail. The class was informative but also really fun. It was very special to have such an engaging experience. I felt among friends at their home. I felt their passion to make tasty imaginative drinks for others to enjoy. As well as teaching anyone interested in learning. A great thing to do for a date or with friends. It's a bit tucked away in an industrial area and their signage is discreet. Suite #28 on the end. That'll make sense once you're there. They've only been at this location since March but Lawrence and Rachel been in business a lot longer and are very knowledgeable in cocktail creations. They mainly do mobile bartending and bring all the bells and whistles to you, including how to make the special drinks. So if you're having a shindig, they're the ones to call to bring the cocktails and skill. I'm so happy to had the opportunity to experience this business and meet the owners.

The food was genuinely excellent, and the service was warm and attentive throughout. The bed was also a standout -- more comfortable than what I've experienced at most four-star hotels. I also loved the in-room Nespresso machine, which was a great touch. The only drawbacks are the location and setting. It's not ideal if you want to be close to a more metropolitan, walkable area, and being right on the creek means there can be quite a few bugs, especially in the evening. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a relaxing, stylish getaway with great food and very comfortable rooms.

This charming, quaint boutique hotel is located in a residential neighborhood in Round Rock, TX. The Ruby Hotel & Bar is situated along Brushy Creek in historic downtown Round Rock. The hotel has 39 uniquely designed rooms and suites, in the suburbs of Austin, TX. The hotel blends mid-century modern design with natural surroundings, creating a chic vibe. The property is distinctly divided into to major buildings...the hotel and the bar. There is a random small building up front also...not sure what that buildings for. There is also outdoor seating, which would be pleasant in the summer. Last night we had freezing temperatures, so sub-optimal for seating outside. When we entered the bar, we felt transported to another place in time. Retro looking furniture at the entry with finger dialed phones...my nieces and nephews would likely not have any idea what these little machines called telephones were. The bar was a mix of old - building built in the 1960s....new - modern mirrors and bar. There was signage at the front of the bar that stated to seat yourself and place your order from the bar (different set up...for sure). We ordered the hummus plate minus pita bread plus more cucumbers. Alan, our server was very accommodating to make that switch. We had herbal hot tea (chamomile and pomegranate berry). We listened to the 3 person band, who sang music from Johnny Cash to Bob Marley and so many different genres in between. What a lovely evening...date night score!

And, at both breakfasts Amy made me feel especially welcome! The table came with a bottle of water for self-service, which I appreciated. The wine list was of good quality. My server at dinner was able to give me a solid recommendation for one to pair with my salmon. She was dead on with how well it complimented the fish. As for the salmon, it wasn't overly seasoned and was incredibly flaky. It was a good size as well. For breakfast, The Breakfast Plate's eggs were cooked perfectly with appropriately cooked bacon. I enjoyed the potatoes that accompanied it as well. The Buttermilk Pancakes meal was a failure though. The pancakes were gooey inside. My server, Amy, offered to have them remade, but I declined the offer. So I accepted a parfait, which was easily one of the best I've had in Austin. The granola with the berries were perfectly balanced, and the granola wasn't super chunky. Amy was 100% invested in my meal satisfaction. The dining room is quite pretty with lovely set tables. Every time I ate, I felt a tad underdressed! But they don't care if you're comfortably casual, and i saw a family with small children looking very relaxed and vacationy and they were welcome.
